20190126 Explanation of Offense of Mother Śacī (Part-4)

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

So today we are continuing reading the compilation of the “Kṛṣṇa Caitanya” Book. We hope you all had an auspicious 26th January 2019 in India!! Today is the Republic day in India. We wish every day to be Kṛṣṇa conscious!! So today I didn’t have any physio or voice therapists. We did on our own, with Sūbānga Govīnda dāsa, doing some exercises with me. I went cycling today and did more than 550 cycles. We had Cāruhāsinī Radhika and Ekarāni counting the steps, cycles. This evening we had class with girl’s aśramas, centers in Manipal, Jamshedpur and Calicut, and maybe somewhere else. Now we will continue with the class. Deva Gaurāṅga dāsa, will read the Bengali and I will give the translation and commentary.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.120

caitanya-siṁhera ājñā kariyā laṅghana
nā bujhi' vaiṣṇava ninde pāibe bandhana

Jayapatākā Swami: Whoever disobeys the order of Caitanya Siṁha, the lion like Lord Caitanya, anyone who blasphemes a Vaiṣṇava, will obtain bondage.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.121

e kathāra hetu kichu śuna mana
diyāye-nimitta gauracandra balilena ihā

Jayapatākā Swami: Now hear with full attention! the explanation of the reason why Lord Caitanya, Gauracandra, He performed this pastime.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.122

trikāla jānena prabhu śrī-śacīnandana
jānena,—sevibe advaitere duṣṭa-gaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: Śrī Śacīnandana knows the past, present and future. So He knew that some miscreants would worship Advaita prabhu, and neglect Caitanya Māhaprabhu.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.123

advaitere gāibeka `śrī-kṛṣṇa' baliyā
yata kichu vaiṣṇavera vacana nindiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: They would glorify Advaita as Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, criticizing the words of the Vaiṣṇavas!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.124

ye balibe advaitere `parama vaiṣṇava'
tāhāre veḍiyā laṅghibe pāpī saba

Jayapatākā Swami: The sinners would transgress the instructions of Lord Caitanya and ridicule those who would call Advaita Gosāi as the topmost Vaiṣṇava. So Advaita prabhu is an expansion of Māha-viṣṇu and Sadāśiva. He came as a topmost Vaiṣṇava. So, Lord Caitanya praised Śrī Advaita prabhu as being a great Vaiṣṇava, and not directly Kṛṣṇa. So, the sinful offenders, will offend Advaita prabhu, by opposing this explanation of Advaita prabhu as a great devotee

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.125

se-saba-gaṇera pakṣa advaita dharite
eta baḍa śakti nāhi—e daṇḍa dekhite

Jayapatākā Swami: Advaita Gosāi, He doesn’t take the side of these people, and there isn’t such a power after seeing this pastime of punishment.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.126

sakala-sarvajña-cūḍāmaṇi viśvambhara
jānena vilambe haibeka bahutara

Jayapatākā Swami: Viśvambara is the crown jewel of omniscient persons. So, He knew that further delay would produce such, many more sinful people like this.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.127

ataeva daṇḍa dekhāiyā jananīre
sākṣī karilena advaitādi-vaiṣṇavere

Jayapatākā Swami: Therefore, He gave His own mother punishment, in the presence of Advaita and other vaiṣṇavas, and so on.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.128

vaiṣṇavera nindā karibeka yāra gaṇa
tāra rakṣā-sāmarthya nāhika kona jana

Jayapatākā Swami: Whoever does a Vaiṣṇava blasphemy, no one is able to protect him. So, it describes here that if a disciple blasphemes other Vaiṣṇavas, the disciple of a Vaiṣṇava blasphemes another Vaiṣṇava, then the Vaiṣṇava-guru will not condone or protect such a disciple. Nityānanda is non-different from Balarāma, the brother of Kṛṣṇa, and Advaita is His expansion’s expansion. Therefore, Advaita does not approve of the philosophy that He is greater than or He is Kṛṣṇa. So if a spiritual master is a person who engages in blaspheming the Vaiṣṇavas or condones his disciples who are blaspheming the Vaiṣṇavas, certainly becomes degraded! So, of all the offences, one should be very careful to avoid vaiṣṇava-aparādha!! Lord Caitanya protects us from all other offences up to a large extent, but this offence of a Vaiṣṇava is something very serious! So no one is able to protect any of his followers, who engage in blasphemy of the Vaiṣṇavas.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.129

vaiṣṇava-nindaka-gaṇa yāhāra āśraya
āpanei eḍāite tāhāra saṁśaya

Jayapatākā Swami: So the deliverance of the spiritual master, whose followers engage in the blasphemy of vaiṣṇavas, is doubtful.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.130

baḍa adhikārī haya, āpane eḍāya
kṣudra haile—gaṇa-saha adhaḥpāte yāya

Jayapatākā Swami: If he is a very highly qualified, highly advanced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, then he can protect himself. But if he is weaker, along with his followers who are engaged in vaiṣṇava-aparādha, he falls down along with them. Hebbi!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.131

caitanyera daṇḍa bujhibāre śakti kāra?
jananīra lakṣye daṇḍa karila sabāra

Jayapatākā Swami: Who has the power to understand Lord Caitanya’s punishment? He cautioned everyone by punishing His mother, as an example.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.132

ye vā jana advaitere `vaiṣṇava' balite
nindā kare, daṇḍa kare, mare bhāla-mate

Jayapatākā Swami: One who calls Advaita as a Vaiṣṇava, if he is criticized, or quarreled with, he is destroyed, he is finished! So Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura says, those who identify Śrī Advaita as Kṛṣṇa, rather than accept Him as a topmost Vaiṣṇava, certainly transform into blasphemy of Śrī Advaita prabhu. So the destruction of such blasphemers is guaranteed!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.133

sarva-prabhu gaurāṅga-sundara maheśvara
ei baḍa stuti ye tāhāra anucara

Jayapatākā Swami: Śrī Gaurāṅga-sundara is the Supreme Lord of all Lords. And to be known as His follower, is a great honor or great privilege.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.134

nityānanda-svarūpe se niṣkapaṭa hañā
kahilena gauracandra `īśvara' kariyā

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya, Lord Gauracandra addressed Nityānanda svarūpa, without hesitation, as Īśvara or the Supreme Lord!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.135

nityānanda-prasāde se gauracandra jāni
nityānanda-prasāde se vaiṣṇavere cini

Jayapatākā Swami: By the mercy of Lord Nityānanda, one can know Gaurachandra. By the mercy of Lord Nityānanda one can recognize a vaiṣṇava. So Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura said that by the mercy of Lord Nityānanda one can recognize Vaiṣṇavas, headed by Advaita ācārya. And only by the mercy of Lord Nityānanda can one understand that Śrī Gaurāṅga-sundara is Lord Kṛṣṇa Himself.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.136

nityānanda-prasāde se nindā yāya kṣaya
nityānanda-prasāde se viṣṇu-bhakti haya

Jayapatākā Swami: By the mercy of Lord Nityānanda, one’s offences are destroyed. By the mercy of Lord Nityānanda, one attains pure devotional service to the Supreme Lord. So, by the mercy of Śrī Nityānanda, the offences committed by the wicked people who wrongly eulogize Advaita prabhu, are destroyed - their offences are destroyed. By the mercy of Lord Nityānanda one’s inclination toward the service of the Supreme Lord is increased!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.137

nindā nāhi nityānanda-sevakera mukhe
aharniśa caitanyera yaśa gāya sukhe

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda’s servitors don’t engage in the blasphemy of devotees. Day and night, they sing the glories of the Lord Caitanya, with great happiness!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.138

nityānanda-bhakta saba-dike sāvadhāna
nityānanda-bhṛtyera `caitanya'—dhana-prāṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda’s devotees are very careful. Those servants of Lord Nityānanda prabhu know Lord Caitanya, as their life and wealth!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.139

alpa bhāgye nāhi haya nityānanda dāsa
yāhārā laoyāya gauracandrera prakāśa

Jayapatākā Swami: Less fortunate people are not able to become Lord Nityānanda’s servitors, by whose mercy one can understand Gauracandra’s appearance.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.140

ye jana śunaye viśvarūpera ākhyāna
se haya ananta-dāsa nityānanda-prāṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: One who hears the topics regarding Viśvarūpa, becomes Lord Anantadeva’s servant. Nityānanda becomes his life and soul!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 22.141

nityānanda viśvarūpa—abheda śarīra
āi ihā jāne, jāne āra kona dhīra

Jayapatākā Swami: Nityānanda and Viśvarūpa – there is no difference between them. Mother Śacī knows this, and some other sober, serious devotees know this fact. So, Lord Nityānanda prabhu and Viśvarūpa are not actually separate. Śrī Śacī devī was fully aware of this, Viśvarūpa receiving spiritual instruction, under the guidance of Advaita, doesn’t mean that Śrī Nityānanda prabhu was subordinate to Advaita. This is extremely unreasonable.

This ends the chapter entitled, “Explanation of the offence of Mother Śacī”

Jayapatākā Swami: Any reference to a Vaiṣṇava, by his material previous activities, or his material features, or any excessive eulogy, where you are calling him as God, such things are offensive, or blasphemy.

Question: How can we get mercy of Lord Nityānanda?

Jayapatākā Swami: Pray to Him or worship Him, and the spiritual master is considered as His dear servitor, so by following a Vaiṣṇava, spiritual master, who is surrendered to Nityānanda prabhu, one can get His mercy!
