The following is a class given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on August 1st, 2022 in Śrī Dhāma Māyāpur, India. The class begins with a reading from the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 10.33.39.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Jayapatākā Swami: This verse glorifies hearing with faith the pastimes of Kṛṣṇa with the gopīs.

So, I was visiting Varṣāṇā and there is one peacock cabin, moar-kuṭīra there.

There is a painting there by a blind artist, Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa dancing like peacocks.

So, they told me the pastime that Rādhārāṇī and her confidantes were watching a peacock dancing.

Kṛṣṇa came up and said, nobody is watching Me, they are all watching the peacock!

So Rādhārāṇī said, “Well, You are not dancing, the peacock is dancing!” So then Kṛṣṇa went and danced next to the peacock.

He asked, “How is that?” Rādhārāṇī said, “Oh, alright, but the peacock is better!” Ha!

Then He danced more enthusiastically!

So He asked Rādhārāṇī, “How is that?” Then Rādhārāṇī said, “That was better, but still the peacock is better!” Ha!

Then Kṛṣṇa, He really danced!

Then Rādhārāṇī stood up and danced with Him!

And that is the painting they have.

Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa dancing.

So there are many pastimes of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa.

But one has to be very advanced for them to hear.

If you think that it is some material thing, then you should not listen.

But actually, Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa and the gopīs, They are exchanging pure love.

But what to say, how they deal with Kṛṣṇa is very special.

And in this way, Kṛṣṇa is always attracted by Their līlās.

So we are doing my Caitanya Book compilation.

And Nārada Muni had worshiped Lakṣmī for twelve years.

And he asked for mahā-prasāda from Nārāyaṇa’s plate as his boon.

Lakṣmī had promised she would give him whatever he wanted.

And he asked for mahā-prasāda from Lord Nārāyaṇa’s plate.

But Nārāyaṇa told Lakṣmī never to give His mahā-prasāda to anyone.

So, She was in great anxiety, She had promised Nārada Muni to give him anything but She could not give Nārada Muni the one thing he wanted, which Lord Nārāyaṇa did not want Her to do.

Nārāyaṇa saw that she was morose and in anxiety, and He asked her what was the matter.

Because in Vaikuṇṭha nobody is in anxiety.

So She told him what She had promised, and was thinking what she should do.

Nārāyaṇa told Her You don’t give him in front of Me!

You see some time when I don’t see, then you give it to him.

So, one time She took a handful of mahā-prasāda from Nārāyaṇa’s plate and gave it to Nārada Muni.

Nārada ate it and he became so ecstatic! He became brilliant like a million suns.

He was so ecstatic! Haribol! Haribol!

So then he went to Kailāsa and Lord Śiva said, what happened to you, you are brilliant like a million suns!

Then he explained how he had worshiped Lakṣmī for twelve years and he had got the mahā-prasāda from Nārāyaṇa’s plate, so he was in so much ecstasy.

Lord Śiva heard, I thought we were friends!

You did not give me any prasāda from Nārāyaṇa’s plate!

I was deprived of this greatest ecstasy.

Nārada Muni felt embarrassed.

He just ate the prasāda and did not wait for anyone.

But he put his head down and he was ashamed.

But he also did not have time, he did not wash his hands.

So here in my fingernail there is a speck of Nārāyaṇa’s mahā-prasāda!

That is how the saying comes, kanikā-mātram – just give me a speck!

Then Nārada Muni gave him, and he took it immediately.

And he felt so much ecstasy!

He started dancing like Lord Śiva would dance.

All over the universe there were earthquakes, tsunamis.

In Rasātala, bottom of the universe, it was even shaking Anantadeva! So, Pārvatī was on a tour of the universe.

She is the universal Mother.

It was not the time of mahā-pralaya the final destruction.

So she went back to Kailāsa and saw her husband Lord Śiva dancing in ecstasy.

He had his eyes closed and he was dancing so ecstatically.

And Pārvatī thought I have got to stop him otherwise the universe will be destroyed!

So she spoke some harsh words to him, “Svāmī! Svāmī!” And broke his trance. He said, “What have you done? I was in the greatest ecstasy and you broke it!” And she explained to him, he is Āśutoṣa, he is easily satisfied.

But then she was curious, she asked him, “You dance every day, why today was special?” He explained what happened with Nārada Muni and how he got a speck of Lord Nārāyaṇa’s mahā-prasāda.

And he felt incomparable ecstasy.

She said, “I have married you and you said that out of love, you accept me as half of your body.

Now I see, it is all a show, you did not save anything for me?

Why did you not save anything for me?” Lord Śiva thought, “Ah! You are not qualified!” “What!  I was a devotee of Viṣṇu!

One of my names is Vaiṣṇavī.

Oh, this is the worst, the worst suffering in the whole world!

I say now, I am going to get this mahā-prasāda and see that it is given not only to the human beings but also the dogs and jackals as well.” So even she is the material energy and her supreme husband, even they have difficulties sometimes.

Finally, Lord Viṣṇu had to come and intervene.

He was their marriage counsellor.

He took Pārvatī aside and told her a secret.

Lord Jagannātha is the Dāru-Brahman, all His prasāda is offered to Devī.

So we can see that the marriage of husband and wife is actually for serving Kṛṣṇa.

Of course, they have facility to make children.

We vairāgīs have to have male assistants.

But if the gṛhasthas have service of Kṛṣṇa as their central point, then they can quickly achieve perfection.

Haribol!

So, we see the supreme couple, they had some difficulties.

And also there may be some difficulties, but one should engage in Kṛṣṇa’s service, chant the harināma, read the Bhāgavatam, and in this way one can achieve the highest perfection of life.

So, there is one pastime that Lord Kṛṣṇa He went to Rukmiṇī’s palace in Dvārakā.

Rukmiṇī had a man, a brāhmaṇa chant mantras and the kids were approaching Kṛṣṇa.

But then she took Kṛṣṇa into Their private quarters.

She bathed the lotus feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa, she held His lotus feet on Her chest, and then she was crying. Tears were pouring from her eyes!

Kṛṣṇa said, “I just came, why are You crying?” And He started to speculate, “The servants did not listen to You or what?” He gave a few ideas.

Rukmiṇī said, “You know what Lord Śiva is doing in Kailāsa.

You know what Lord Brahmā is doing in Satyaloka.

You know what is happening in all the ananta-koṭi brahmāṇḍa.

But You are the Supreme Lord and no one is above You! So it seems You don’t know what the devotee out of love feels for You, Rādhārāṇī knows, I know, but You don’t know.” So He was amazed, because no one has ever said there was something He did not know!

“What, what, what?” She said, “You don’t know what love we feel for You!” So then, eventually Kṛṣṇa said, “I will take appearance as a devotee.” Then that is how Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa combined as Gaurāṅga.

You are very fortunate to be here in the appearance and pastime place of Lord Gaurāṅga.

And Vāsu Ghoṣa, he is saying, if there was not Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who would have revealed to us these Vṛndāvana pastimes? There is a song yadi prabhupāda na hoito – I was inspired by this song by Vāsu Ghoṣa.

And Lord Caitanya came to reveal these confidential pastimes.

Only by Lord Caitanya’s mercy can we understand the love between Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa.

Gaurāṅga!

So, we heard from this verse, that simply by hearing or speaking with faith, all our material lust can be stopped and that is all by the mercy of Lord Caitanya.

We are very happy that you are living in Lord Caitanya’s dhāma.

And we hope that you all can serve Śrīla Prabhupāda’s mission and help to broadcast the message of Lord Caitanya.

Gaurāṅga!

Any questions?

Question: If a person has a lot of lusty desires for illicit sex and intoxication, is it helpful to indulge and feel they are fully like had enough and overcome those desires?

Jayapatākā Swami: It is said that if you hear with faith if you hear and not be agitated, then you can cure the lust in your heart.

If you speculate lusty things when you hear, then you are not hearing with faith.

Any other question?

Question: (In Russian) When we work in our countries, we have been doing many services in this mission but when we come to the holy dhāma we have to do something a little more, what is it that we should do to satisfy the spiritual master?

Jayapatākā Swami: Good question. Devotional service should actually increase.

We get a thousand times any devotional service done.

If you don’t do anything, what is a thousand times zero?

So, try to do more sevā.

I mean, nobody ever asked me what can I do, except Viṣṇu Priyā here.

I have many things that Śrīla Prabhupāda asked me to do and you can help in that.

Audārya-līlā is helping me in disciple care.

Former Soviet Union and Europe.

So much area.

Maybe she needs help.

I mean that should be the problem, many devotees they want to do service, please give us service, what should we do?

He has come here to do the BI and he needs help, I don’t know?

And I can think of some things like, Gaurāṅga Prema Mahārāja he has to do festivals.

He looks for foreign devotees.

I went to Durgapur, Asansol, huge pandals, 5000, 10,000 people!

Russians are well-liked in India. India is a friend of Russia politically.

Anyway, there are plenty of opportunities for you all to participate in these festivals.

Anyway, you get the point. Also, like when you are here, we need people to read Śrīla Prabhupāda books and take Bhakti-śāstri, Bhakti-vaibhava, Bhakti-vedānta.

I said I would order any disciple who is in good standing and has the Bhakti-vedānta degree, I can order them to go through the process of becoming a dīkṣā-guru.

It is hard for ladies to be guru in India.

But I don’t know if there is any problem in Russia.

Some Russian disciple gets Bhakti-vedānta they go back to Russia and becomes a guru.

That is one thing you can do while you are in Māyāpur, we have the MI, you can get your degree.

Question: Śrīla Prabhupāda has done impossible deeds. And Caitanya Candra Caraṇa Prabhu told that the perfection in success is to do whatever is possible and little more. Can you please elaborate on the heroism in devotional service? What is the heroism in devotional service in this perspective?

Jayapatākā Swami: Śrīla Prabhupāda said to publish the Caitanya-caritāmṛta in two months.

Then Rāmeśvara Prabhu said, that is impossible.

Śrīla Prabhupāda said impossible is a word in the fool’s dictionary.

They had a marathon and published all the volumes of the Caitanya-caritāmṛta in two months.

Some devotees went to Śrīla Prabhupāda and said I distributed so many books – say ten thousand!

Śrīla Prabhupāda would say, very good!

Now double it next year!

So, if you want to do a little more you can double it.

We should try to do as best we can do.

A little better! So, we were distributing for Bhādra Pūrṇimā previously 6,000 sets.

In 2020 we did 25,000 Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam sets.

in 2021 we did 35,000.

So Vaiśeṣika Prabhu said that by 2026 we should distribute 100,000 sets.

That means every year increasing by 23%.

This year we should distribute at least 43,000 sets of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

Every year we should increase minimum 23%.

So if you can give me how many sets of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and Bhagavad-gītās you can distribute. Each person.

You may not know Bengali but just by being friendly you can capture their heart!

Ladies can embrace the other ladies! Wow! They will never forget! I was embraced by a Russian lady!
