Jayapatākā Swami: This is the mission of the Caitanya-caritāmṛta, that one should be thinking about, meditating and hearing about the transcendental pastimes of Lord Caitanya. Haribol!

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 12.2

jaya jaya śrī-caitanya jaya dayāmaya
jaya jaya nityānanda kṛpā-sindhu jaya

Translation: All glories to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who is all-merciful! All glories to Nityānanda Prabhu, who is an ocean of mercy!

Jayapatākā Swami: So the special characteristics of Lord Caitanya, His expansions and His energies, His mercy, everyone in Kali-yuga needs the Lord’s mercy, so He had come down with His associates from the spiritual world just to give out mercy.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 12.4

prabhura kṛṣṇaviraha-sphūrti :—

ataḥpara mahāprabhura viṣaṇṇa-antara
kṛṣṇera viyoga-daśā sphure nirantara

Translation: The mind of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was always morose because of a continuously manifested feeling of separation from Kṛṣṇa.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya was the combined form of Kṛṣṇa and Rādhārāṇī. As Rādhārāṇī was always feeling separation from Lord Kṛṣṇa, Lord Caitanya was also absorbed in separation from Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 12.5

prabhura kṛṣṇasaṅga-vyākulatā :—

‘hāhā kṛṣṇa prāṇa-nātha vrajendra-nandana!
kāhāṅ yāṅa kāhāṅ pāṅa, muralī-vadana!’

Translation: The Lord would cry, “O My Lord Kṛṣṇa, My life and soul! O son of Mahārāja Nanda, where shall I go? Where shall I attain You? O Supreme Personality who plays with Your flute to Your mouth!”

Jayapatākā Swami: This was the transcendental mood of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He was absorbed in separation. We can also be in this mood of separation because Kṛṣṇa came in Dvāpara-yuga, Lord Caitanya came five centuries ago. So by serving the Lord in separation one can always have the Lord very close.

rātri-dina ei daśā svasti nāhi mane

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 12.10

prabhura niṣedhasattveo nityānandera yātrā :—

nityānanda-prabhure yadyapi ājñā nāi
tathāpi dekhite calena caitanya-gosāñi

Translation: Because Nityānanda Prabhu was preaching in Bengal, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu had ordered Him not to come to Jagannātha Purī. That year, however, He went with the rest of the party to see the Lord.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityananda had such pure love for Lord Caitanya that sometimes He could not resist going out of love. Lord Caitanya understanding His breaking the order out of pure love, accepted that.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 12.11

Since the devotees from Bengal were going to Jagannātha Purī, they had to pass through many such toll booths. Śivānanda Sena was in charge of paying the tolls.

Jayapatākā Swami: So Śivānanda Sena took this service as a sevā to the Vaiṣṇavas. And he was doing this as part of his care to the Vaiṣṇavas.
