Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, “Who has brought Me here from Govardhana Hill? I was seeing Lord Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes, but now I cannot see them.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu was in ecstasy and He was seeing Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes. But being brought back to external consciousness, He could no longer see the pastimes of Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.106

ihāṅ haite āji mui genu govardhane
dekhoṅ,—yadi kṛṣṇa karena godhana-cāraṇe

Translation: “Today I went from here to Govardhana Hill to find out if Kṛṣṇa was tending His cows there.

govardhanera caudike care saba dhenu

Translation: “I saw Lord Kṛṣṇa climbing Govardhana Hill and playing His flute, surrounded on all sides by grazing cows.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, when Lord Caitanya came back half in His vision and half in external consciousness, that time He would say, He would describe what He had been seeing.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.108

veṇu-nāda śuni’ āilā rādhā-ṭhākurāṇī
saba sakhī-gaṇa-saṅge kariyā sājani

Translation: “Hearing the vibration of Kṛṣṇa’s flute, Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī and all Her gopī friends came there to meet Him. They were all very nicely dressed.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.109

rādhā lañā kṛṣṇa praveśilā kandarāte
sakhī-gaṇa kahe more phula uṭhāite

Translation: “When Kṛṣṇa and Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī entered a cave together, the other gopīs asked Me to pick some flowers.

Jayapatākā Swami: So Lord Caitanya was participating in the pastimes.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.110

hena-kāle tumi-saba kolāhala kailā
tāhāṅ haite dhari’ more ihāṅ lañā āilā

Translation: “Just then, all of you made a tumultuous sound and carried Me from there to this place.

Jayapatākā Swami: So in Lord Caitanya’s ecstasy He participated in Lord Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes. But then when the devotees loudly chanted Hare Kṛṣṇa, He came back.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.111

kṛṣṇasaṅgavañcita prabhura krandana, bhaktagaṇerao krandana

kene vā ānilā more vṛthā duḥkha dite
pāñā kṛṣṇera līlā, nā pāinu dekhite”

Translation: “Why have you brought Me here, causing Me unnecessary pain? I had a chance to see Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes, but I could not see them.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So Lord Caitanya was crying in separation of Lord Kṛṣṇa. All the devotees, they also began crying.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.112

eta bali’ mahāprabhu karena krandana
tāṅra daśā dekhi’ vaiṣṇava karena rodana

Translation: Saying this, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu began to weep. When all the Vaiṣṇavas saw the Lord’s condition, they also wept.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.113

prabhura vāhyadaśāya maryādā-pradarśana:—

hena-kāle āilā purī, bhāratī,—dui-jana
duṅhe dekhi’ mahāprabhura ha-ila sambhrama

Translation: At that time, Paramānanda Purī and Brahmānanda Bhāratī arrived. Seeing them, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu became somewhat respectful.

Jayapatākā Swami: They were disciples of Mādhavendra Purī. So Lord Caitanya, He naturally was respectful to them.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.114

nipaṭṭa-bāhya ha-ile prabhu duṅhāre vandilā
mahāprabhure dui-jana premāliṅgana kailā

Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu returned to complete external consciousness and immediately offered prayers to them. Then these two elderly gentlemen both embraced the Lord with loving affection.

Jayapatākā Swami: Paramānanda Purī and Brahmānanda Bhāratī, they reciprocated the prayers of Lord Caitanya by embracing Him.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.115

prabhura tadāgamana-kāraṇa jijñāsā o purīra uttara:—

prabhu kahe,—‘duṅhe kene āilā eta dūre’?
purī-gosāñi kahe,—‘tomāra nṛtya dekhibāre’

Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said to Purī Gosvāmī and Brahmānanda Bhāratī, “Why have the two of you come so far?”

Purī Gosvāmī replied, “Just to see Your dancing.”

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.116

prabhura lajjā o bhaktagaṇasaha samudrasnānānte prasāda-sammāna:—

lajjita ha-ilā prabhu purīra vacane
samudra-ghāṭa āilā saba vaiṣṇava-sane

Translation: When He heard this, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu felt somewhat ashamed. Then He went to bathe in the sea with all the Vaiṣṇavas.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya’s regular activity was to daily bathe in the sea. He took all the Vaiṣṇavas and bathed in the sea.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.117

snāna kari’ mahāprabhu gharete āilā
sabā lañā mahā-prasāda bhojana karilā

Translation: After bathing in the sea, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu returned to His residence with all the devotees. Then they all lunched on the remnants of food offered to Lord Jagannātha.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the devotees had the opportunity to take prasāda with Lord Caitanya So, the devotees, they like to join the pastimes of Lord Caitanya and they would chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, circumambulate the temple of Jagannātha, bathe in the ocean together and take prasāda together. So this is what devotees do in the transcendental pastimes of the Lord.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.118

prabhura aprākṛta divyonmāda—brahmāra agocara:—

ei ta’ kahiluṅ prabhura divyonmāda-bhāva
brahmāo kahite nāre yāhāra prabhāva

Translation: Thus I have described the transcendental ecstatic emotions of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Even Lord Brahmā cannot describe their influence.

Jayapatākā Swami: By hearing the pastimes of Lord Caitanya, His ecstatic symptoms, what effect this will have, even Lord Brahmā cannot describe. So by hearing these attributes of the Lord, we get awakened to pure devotion for Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.119

raghunāthadāsa-karttṛka svagranthe prabhura ei līlā varṇita

‘caṭaka’-giri-gamana-līlā raghunātha-dāsa
‘gaurāṅga-stava-kalpavṛkṣe’ kariyāchena prakāśa

Translation: In his book Gaurāṅga-stava-kalpavṛkṣa, Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī has very vividly described Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s pastime of running toward the Caṭaka-parvata sand dune.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya saw the caṭaka parvata sand dune and He thought it was Govardhana. And He ran to that sand dune. And the ecstasy that He felt is somewhat described.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.120

stavāvalīte caitanyastava-kalpavṛkṣa-stave (8)—

samīpe nīlādreś caṭaka-giri-rājasya kalanād
aye goṣṭhe govardhana-giri-patiṁ lokitum itaḥ
vrajann asmīty uktvā pramada iva dhāvann avadhṛto
gaṇaiḥ svair gaurāṅgo hṛdaya udayan māṁ madayati

Translation: “Near Jagannātha Purī is a great sand dune known as Caṭaka-parvata. Seeing that hill, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, ‘Oh, I shall go to the land of Vraja to see Govardhana Hill!’ Then He began running madly toward it, and all the Vaiṣṇavas ran after Him. This scene awakens in my heart and maddens me.”

Purport: This verse is Gaurāṅga-stava-kalpavṛkṣa 8.

Jayapatākā Swami: Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī, the personal assistant of Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Mahārāja, he personally witnessed all these pastimes. He kept notes, these were read by Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja and written in the Caitanya-caritāmṛta.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.121

prabhura alaukika līlā:—

ebe prabhu yata kailā alaukika-līlā
ke varṇite pāre sei mahāprabhura khelā?

Translation: Who can properly describe all the uncommon pastimes of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu? They are all simply His play.

Jayapatākā Swami: Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī tried to describe the different, uncommon pastimes of Lord Caitanya. But Lord Caitanya’s pastimes were so amazing that he is admitting his inability to describe them sufficiently. Lord Caitanya is Kṛṣṇa avatāra and this is His play, His special līlā.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 14.122

prabhura kṛṣṇavicchedānusaraṇei jīvera kṛṣṇapada-lābha

saṅkṣepe kahiyā kari dik daraśana
yei ihā śune, pāya kṛṣṇera caraṇa

Translation: I have briefly described them just to give an indication of His transcendental pastimes. Nevertheless, anyone who hears this will certainly attain the shelter of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s lotus feet.

Jayapatākā Swami: So this is known as the phala-śruti. What you get by listening to these pastimes. We get the shelter of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s lotus feet. Haribol!

So, that is why Lord Caitanya’s pastimes are so amazing, so wonderful that one may not understand or appreciate Lord Caitanya’s pastimes. Someone said after the class, they go over my head. But by listening with faith and love, we can attain the shelter of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s lotus feet.

Thus ends the chapter entitled, Phalaśruti Attain the Shelter of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s Lotus Feet
