yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Hare Kṛṣṇa! Dear Devotees! Today we will be continuing with the comentation of the Śrī Caitanya Candrāmṛtam by Śrīla Prabodhānanda Sarasvatīpāda. Today's chapter 11 Chapter entitled:

Śrī Gaura-rūpollāsa-nṛtyādi, Śrī Gaura’s form, ecstasy, dancing and so on

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 133

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 134

mahā-bhāvonmatta śrī-gaurahari

Śrī Gaurahari maddened due to mahā-bhāva

kṣanaṁ hasati roditi kṣaṇam atha kṣaṇaṁ mūrchati
kṣaṇaṁ luṭhati dhāvati kṣaṇam atha kṣaṇaṁ nṛtyati
kṣaṇaṁ svasiti muñcati kṣaṇam udāra-hā-hā-rutiṁ
mahā-praṇaya-sīdhunā viharatīha gauro hariḥ

Anuvāda: śrī-gaurahari mahā-bhāvāmṛta-rase magna haiyā kakhanao hāsya karitechena, kakhanao rodana karitechena, kakhanao mūrchita haitechena, kakhanao bhūmite luṇṭhita haitechena, kakhanao drutagamana karitechena, āvāra kathanao nṛtya karitechena, kakhanao dīrghaniśvāsa parityāga karitechena, kakhanao vā ‘hā’ 'hā' eirūpa mahat śabda karitechena, (eirūpa nānābhāve) prapañce vihāra karitechena.

Being absorbed in the nectarean mellow of mahā-bhāva, Śrī Gaurahari at one moment laughs, at one moment cries, at one moment faints, at one moment rolls on the ground, at one moment runs, at one moment dances, at one moment sighs, and at one moment vibrates a loud sound of ‘’ ‘’. Thus, He enjoys playfully in this world.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya, He is enjoying this pastime of being Caitanya Mahāprabhu. I was thinking how the Lord, He came in this Kali-yuga as Caitanya Mahāprabhu. He is Kṛṣṇa but He manifests His transcendental pastimes. Now He is accompanied by different devotees, balarāma hoilo nitāi. Also, Lord Caitanya and in His pastimes, He has Advaita Gosāñi and even like Aniruddha came as Vakreśvara Paṇḍita who was dancing for 72 hours. We see how the associates of Lord Kṛṣṇa they came to participate with Lord Gaurāṅga. Bīracandra is Kṣīrodakaśāyī Viṣṇu. Gaṅgā Devi, she also came as Lord Nitāi’s daughter. Everyone was participating in the saṅkīrtana-līlā. When we see the Pañca-Tattva, the śaktīs, the jīvas, everyone is there and they are participating in these incomparable pastimes.

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 135

rādhādāsye sarva-jīvera anurāgotpādanakārī śrī-gaurahari

Śrī Gaurahari produces in all living entities, the attraction for the service to Rādhā

aśrūṇāṁ kim api pravāha-nivahaiḥ kṣauṇiṁ puraḥ paṅkilaṁ
kurvan pāṇi-tale nidhāya vadarā-pāṇḍuṁ kapola-sthalīm
āścaryaṁ lavaṇoda-rodhasi vasan soṇaṁ dadhāno’mśukaṁ
gaurī-bhūya hariḥ svayaṁ vitanute rādhā-padābje ratim

Anuvāda: svayaṁ śrī-kṛṣṇa āśrayajātīya bhāva aṅgīkāra-pūrvaka gaurāṅga-rūpe lavaṇa-jaladhira upakūle upaveśana-pūrvaka gairika vasanadhāraṇa o karatale vadaraphalera nyāya īṣat pāṇḍu-varṇa vivarṇa (vaivarṇya-bhāva dyotaka) gaṇḍasthala sthāpana kariyā nayanajala pravāhe sammukhastha bhūmi kardamākta karite karite rādhāpādapadme rati vistāra karitechena.

Svayam Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa, accepting the mood of the āśraya (abode of love), becoming Gaurāṅga, resides on the bank of the salt ocean, wearing red color cloth and holding in His hands, the cheeks that are slightly white colored like the berry, He is making the earth in front of Him muddy by a wonderful stream of tears from His eyes. Thus, He is expanding the attraction for the service to the lotus feet of Rādhā.

Commentary (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): Cheeks slightly white colored like the berry — expresses the mood of vaivarṇya (changing of bodily color)

Wearing red color cloth — Rādhikā wears the red color cloth due to the attraction for Kṛṣṇa is mentioned in the scriptures.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the attraction that Kṛṣṇa has for Rādhā is described in the Bhāgavata, that Kṛṣṇa is saying that the pastimes of Kṛṣṇa, one level after another is sustaining Kṛṣṇa. So Kṛṣṇa is saying that nothing to be ashamed about, nothing to be shy about that You are maintaining Me, You are supporting Me with Your love. So He was praising Rādhā but He was also mentioning that She has this ability which is Her greatness. So, all the world is being uplifted by Kṛṣṇa but the secret is that Kṛṣṇa is uplifted by Rādhā. So, this is a very confidential secret. That Kṛṣṇa He is changing His color as is mentioned in the verse. So Kṛṣṇa takes different colors depending on the situation.

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 136

aṭṭahāsya prabhṛti nānā anubhāva prakāśa-pūrvaka uddaṇḍa-nṛtyaśīla śrī-gaurahari

By manifesting various symptoms anubhāva (subordinate ecstasy) such as loud laughter Śrī Gaurahari is dancing jumping high

pādāghāta-ravair diśo mukharayan netrāmbhasāṁ bindubhiḥ
kṣauṇiṁ paṅkilayann aho viṣadayann aṭṭāṭṭa-hāsair nabhaḥ
candra-jyotir udāra-sundara-kaṭi-vyālola-soṇāmbaraḥ
ko devo lavaṇoda-kūla-kusumodyāne mudā nṛtyati

Anuvāda: aho! padāghāta-rabe daśadika mukharita, aśrubindu-dvārā pṛthvītala kardamākta evaṁ aṭṭa-aṭṭa-hāsye nabhomaṇḍalera śubhratā sampādana karite karite candrera nyāya gaurakānti-viśiṣṭa, rucira kaṭitaṭe lambamān manohara gairika vasanadhārī kon līlāmaya puruṣa labaṇa-jaladhira upakūlastha puṣpodyāne nṛtya karitechena.

Aho! Vibrating the ten direction by the sound of the dancing, making the surface of the earth muddy by the drops of tears from the eyes and coloring the sky by loud laughter, a person filled with pastimes, golden complexioned like the moon, a wonderful red cloth hanging from his beautiful waist, is happily dancing in the flower garden on the bank of the salt ocean.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya’s dancing while He was in Jagannātha Purī, change of colors and different things, sometimes He would loudly laugh, sometimes He would dance very ecstatically. So, this was creating a very wonderful situation. So, we were seeing Perth devotees were chanting and dancing, and so like this, the devotees they were inspired to laugh, to spin, to dance ecstatically. So, Lord Caitanya was manifesting these pastimes in the side of the salt ocean. Actually, we are celebrating the pastimes of Lord Caitanya and how these are illuminating the world. So, since His pastimes are so wonderful, that people are swept away by His ecstatic mood. So, this is how Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, in His saṅkīrtana līlā. So, Lord Caitanya, He took part in the different pastimes where He also gave the brilliance to the night lamp. So, in previous verses it says that in this age of Kali-yuga Lord Caitanya, He manifests these pastimes where He goes to some flower garden by the side of the salt ocean and He is totally absorbed in these transcendental pastimes and He is wearing a saffron cloth. Sometimes He jumps high and His cloth on His waist is reddish and He is manifesting the mood of separation of Śrīmatī Rādhārani.

Hare Kṛṣṇa!
