16 Jun 2019|English|Public Address|Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The following is an evening dharshan given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on June 16th, 2019, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam paramānanda mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram hariḥ oṁ tat sat

So as you heard tonight, different groups from around Malaysia and China will have their presentation with me. So I will just speak for a short time.

There is a story from the Prema-vivarta, by Jagadānanda Paṇḍita. After His studies one day, Lord Caitanya along with Jagadānanda Paṇḍita and Gadādhara Prabhu was running in Godrumadvīpa by the Alakānandā river, in the Harihara kṣetra.

Lord Caitanya saw a parrot, a śuka-pakṣi. He said, “You are not different from Śukadeva Gosvāmī. Please tell Me the glories of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa.”

And the parrot began to chant, "Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura! Gaura! Gaura! Gaura! Gaura! Gaura Gaura!"

Lord Caitanya said, “No, no, no, no. I am a devotee of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa, I want to hear the glories of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa."

The parrot said, “Oh, I chant in this way! You chant Your way, I will chant my way!" "Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura!"

Translate it! Tamil!

Lord Caitanya said, “No, no, I want to hear the glories of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa!" And He let the parrot go.

The parrot said, "For Me You are Kṛṣṇa and this is Rādhā, looking at Gadādhara. Since time immemorial I have been chanting this mantra." "Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura! Gaura Gaura!"

Lord Caitanya went running away, with His hands over His ears.

You are all very fortunate to be devotees in the line of Caitanya Mahāprabhu! He gave out freely love of Kṛṣṇa! Although He is Kṛṣṇa, He acted like a devotee. He didn’t accept offenses much. The only offense that He was serious about was Vaiṣṇava-aparādha.

Cāpāla Gopāla had offended Śrīvāsa and he got leprosy. So then Lord Caitanya one day, He happened to walk where Cāpāla Gopāla was living outside the city. Then Cāpāla Gopāla paid his prostrate obeisances to Lord Caitanya. "You are the most merciful! Please have Your mercy on me!"

Lord Caitanya said, “No, You will burn in hell! You have offended a Vaiṣṇava, unless that Vaiṣṇava forgives you I cannot forgive You!" It was shocking, they had never seen Lord Caitanya in an angry mood like that.

So some devotees went to Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura, and begged him, please forgive Cāpāla Gopāla."

But Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura said, ”Oh! I am not a Vaiṣṇava! How can I be offended by anyone?”

So the devotee said, “You may not think you are a Vaiṣṇava. But Lord Caitanya does. He said that Cāpāla Gopāla will suffer if you don’t forgive him. You want someone to suffer because of you?"

"No, no, no, I don't want anyone ot suffer because of me!"

Illai illai (no, no in Tamil) [Applause]

So then you should forgive him. So he went beside the Ganges to where Cāpāla Gopāla was staying. And Cāpāla Gopāla fell at the feet of Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura and begged him, "Please forgive me for my offenses!"

Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura said, “That if you had knowingly or unknowingly committed an offense, and if Kṛṣṇa thinks it is an offense, then may he please be forgiven.”

As soon as Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura said that Lord Caitanya appeared and embraced Cāpāla Gopāla! So Cāpāla Gopāla was cured of his leprosy and he got accepted in the saṅkīrtana movement of Lord Gaurāṅga.

Gaurāṅga! Gaurāṅga! Gaurāṅga!

So since there are so many other groups here, I will not speak more tonight. But tomorrow, I will say something more. Haribol!
