Introduction: So, we are continuing the compilation of the Caitanya-līlā books. This chapter we are seeing how Lord Caitanya hinted, that He would be taking sannyāsa. So, this is a very long chapter and we were one third of the chapter.
So tomorrow, I think that there is a complete lockdown in West Bengal. So, devotees, public, will not be allowed to come for darśana at least from 6 am to 10 pm. We were giving khichari before in the various nagars, but we received some complaint. So, from tomorrow they will give out rice and dālmā in various nagars, that’s rice with a dāl that is filled with vegetables.
Today, we see that in Bihar, Assam and different places there are floods. We are told that there may be a flood in Bengal. Usually it takes a little time, for the flood waters to come down. But we have to be ready in case of the flood. So, if you are in the ground floor, think in advance, how you will relocate. Maybe not flood, just in case, think ahead.
Today we were distributing prasāda at the Jagannātha temple, and the annadāna temple, sorry, in the Sulabha, annadāna is for devotees, devotee care. Unfortunately, tomorrow it seems we have to close the distribution at the Sulabha. We were talking with the police to find out.
Anyway, so Lord Caitanya, His different devotes were talking of Him.

Jayapatākā Swami: “Listen, listen, O Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu! O Supreme Personality of Godhead, nothing is impossible for You to perform.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.36

Jayapatākā Swami: “You have the power to go anywhere or stay anywhere. In spite of this, my humble request is, You should not go anywhere else.”
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 2.17.15
tvayā cet kriyate nātha svātantryāt sakalā janāḥ
svātantryeṇa kariṣyanti patiyanty aśucau punaḥ
Translation: “He Nātha! If You act in this way due to your fully independent nature, all people will follow Your example of acting independently and taking sannyāsa. Thus, hey will fall into an impure condition of saṁsāra.”
Jayapatākā Swami: Since the Bhagavad-gītā says, whatever a great man does, the common man follows, so the associates of Lord Caitanya were concerned that if He does this, others may follow His example, and thus be impure.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.37

Jayapatākā Swami: “If You leave from here to another country, then all the Vaiṣṇavas will also become independent.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.38

Jayapatākā Swami: “Whatever their opinion is, they will act independently, for instance, to take sannyāsa, and then again enter into the world of birth and death.”
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 2.17.16
etan matvā svayaṁ tāta svāśramād āśramāntaram

Translation: “Dear Lord, You may change from Your present āśrama to another one (sannyasa) but then who will call these people great (if you are not able to protect them from acting independently)?
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 2.17.17
kṛtvaiva gamanaṁ te’dya kṛtaṁ syāt sarva-dehinām
caitanya-rahitānāṁ ca kiṁ tāvat kathayāmi te
Translation: “Now, simply by your leaving, all embodied beings will become bereft of consciousness and be destroyed. What more can I say to You?”
Jayapatākā Swami: So, devotees were pleading with Lord Caitanya, that He should not consider taking sannyāsa. Whereas, He can do whatever He wants, and He won’t be affected, but others may imitate Him, and they could fall into illusion, by improperly following His example.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.39

Jayapatākā Swami: “My dear Lord, whatever You have done so far, all will be undone, certainly this will happen, I say to You.”

Translation: Lord Śrī Hari who is known as Bhaktagati (who is the goal of His devotees), is always surrounded by His devotees, is accompanied by Nityānanda, is served offerings of scented oils and other pleasing articles by Gadādhara, heard the words of Murāri, but because His heart was overwhelmed by love, He remained silent, being filled by spontaneous desires for the joys of Kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtana as before.
Jayapatākā Swami: So, since Lord Gaurāṅga was absorbed in love of Kṛṣṇa, and He was feeling great separation for Lord Kṛṣṇa in Vṛndāvana, hearing these words of Murāri Gupta, He remained silent.

Translation: On another day, the Lord said, “In a dream a brāhmaṇa whispered in my ear the mahā-vākya. Am I to do something else and renounce the Lord’s feet? For this reason, I cry and can have no peace in this place.”

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way, in the company of His associates, gently smiling, Lord Gaurāṅga told everyone smilingly, that He had seen a dream. He said,

Translation: “Listen everyone, in a dream I saw at the end of the night, suddenly a jewel of the brāhmaṇa, came before Me.”

Translation: “Brightly smiling, he spoke the sannyāsa mantra into My ear. After hearing it I became troubled, and thus I weep by day and night.”
Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya is revealing, how a brāhmaṇa came and spoke the sannyāsa mantra in His ear. So, it is like He is being called away, to take sannyāsa.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.51

Jayapatākā Swami: In My ear, He spoke the sannyāsa mantra. And now in My heart, that mantra is manifested.

Jayapatākā Swami: After that mantra entered into My heart, from that moment, My heart is not able to maintain its independence.

Translation: “How can I abandon Śrī Hari, the Lord of My life and accept other activity?” Hearing this, Murāri replied, “He Bhagavān, You are Yourself the original Supreme Lord, You can contemplate the sannyāsa-mantra – ‘tat tvam asi’ - in terms of the sixth form of Sanskrit compound words, ‘You are His (Kṛṣṇa's),’’ and thus Be happy!”

Jayapatākā Swami: Now hearing these words, Murāri Gupta replied as follows: “You can do the mantra ṣaṣṭhī, in other words, “I am His, Kṛṣṇa’s”, rather than I am He.”
Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.42

tathā śrutvā nāthaḥ samudita-manāḥ sāmpratam abhūt
tathā te ca śrutvā vyathita-manaso gāḍham abhavan
Translation: Hearing this, Murāri Gupta immediately said, “O Lord! Make this statement ‘tat tvam asi’ into a possessive tat-puruṣa compound, meaning ‘I am yours’ instead of ‘I am he.’” Hearing this, the Lord was overjoyed, thinking that it was the proper meaning. But the devotees, hearing the conversation, became deeply worried.
Jayapatākā Swami: The Māyāvādīs, they take the meaning of ‘tat tvam asi’, as meaning, “I am He”. But Murāri Gupta said, take that meaning as, “I am His or, I am Yours”, meaning “I am Kṛṣṇa’s” So this gave Lord Caitanya great joy. He was happy to hear this meaning. But since He was talking about taking sannyāsa, the devotees became very worried, fearing the separation from the Lord.
Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.56
e vela śuniẏā prabhu kahila vacana

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Gaurāṅga said, “Your words don’t pacify My heart.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.57

Jayapatākā Swami: “As much as I try to become pacified, this much increases My crying! Do not say anything to Me, listen to My words.”

Translation: Hearing this, all the bhaktas were perturbed. Their hearts felt anguish at the thought of separation from Gaura Kṛṣṇa, like the enchanting-eyebrowed gopīs of Vraja when their beloved Kṛṣṇa departed for Mathurā.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.59
e bola śuniyā sabhe antara cintita

Jayapatākā Swami: Hearing the words of Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu, everyone became in anxiety in their heart. With a sorrowful heart, Locana dāsa speaks these words.
Thus ends the chapter, The Lord Hints of Taking Sannyāsa
So, it is predicted that Lord Gaurāṅga will spend 24 years as a gṛhastha, and 24 years as a sannyāsī. Since He banished Sītā to the forest, so in reciprocation, He is banning Himself to the forest. As one of the synonyms for taking sannyāsa, is gṛhe thāko vane thāko– vane thāko means, those who live in the forest. This is what the renounced order is. Although the present renounced order is staying in āśramas. The previous name was to stay in the forest. So sometimes sannyāsa āśrama is called vane thāko or living in the forest.
So, in reciprocation with His having banished Sītā to the forest, to show the example of an ideal king, who treated His subjects as His own children, He banished His wife Sītā to the forest. And so then in this līlā, He is reciprocating by banishing Himself to the forest. In His previous līlā as Rāmacandra, He worshipped a golden form of Sītā-devī. He was in constant separation from Sītā-devī, and in this līlā, Viṣṇu-priyā worships a golden form of Lord Caitanya. That form is still visible in Navadvīpa dhāma. He is called as Dhāmeśvara. So, we take our parikramā party there every year to see the deity worshipped by Viṣṇu-priyā. But the devotees in Navadvīpa are already feeling extreme anxiety, fearing their separation from their dear Lord Gaurāṅga.
