20231105 Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam Class

The following is a Sri Chaitanya Chandrāmṛtam Class given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on November 5th,2023 in Śrī Dhāma Māyāpur, India.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 6

brahmādira saubhāgyera prati hāsya evaṁ nirbheda-jñānī o yogigaṇera ceṣṭāke dhikkāra-pradānakārī bhaktagaṇera prabhu gauraharira stava—

mādyantaḥ paripīya yasya caraṇāmbhojasravatprojjvala-
premānandamayāmṛtādbhutarasān sarve suparveḍitāḥ
brahmādīṁśca hasanti nātivahu-manyante mahāvaiṣṇavān
dhikkurvanti ca brahmayogaviduṣastaṁ gauracandraṁ namaḥ

Anuvāda: Samasta suragaṇera vandita gaurabhaktagaṇa yāṅhāra pādapadma-viniḥsṛta paramojjala premānandamaya ati-camatkāra amṛta rasera paripūrṇa-pānajanita premonmāde vibhora haiyā brahmādikeo lakṣya kariyā “hāya, hāya! Iṅhārā gaurasundarera śrī-padakamala-madhupāna haite vañcita” baliyā hāsya karena; gaurabhaktihīna mahāvaiṣṇavadigakeo bahumānana karena nā, evaṁ brahma-jñānī o aṣṭāṅga-yogigaṇakeo tāṅhādera durbuddhira janya dhikkāra pradāna kariyā thākena, sei śrī-gaurasundarake āmarā stava kari.

Translation: The devotees of Lord Caitanya are worshiped by the devatās but only fully drinking the astonishing sweet rasa made of this sharing prema flowing from His lotus feet they become intoxicated and laugh at even Brahma by saying alas! Alas! These people are deprived of the nectar from the lotus feet of Lord Gaurasundara. They do not give great respect to devotees who are devoid of devotion to Lord Caitanya. They despise the knowers of jñāna and karma for their mischievous intelligence. We glorify that Lord Gauranga.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya’s lotus feet are the source of pure kṛṣṇa-prema and they are fully absorbed in the nectar of kṛṣṇa-prema. That prema which even the great devatās like Brahmā and others, they don’t easily get. By the mercy of Lord Caitanya, this nectar is received. So, the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya are producing this nectar of pure kṛṣṇa-prema and the devotees are fully absorbed in the nectar.

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 7

anarpitacarī unnatojjalā bhaktira prakāśaka śrī-caitanyera stava—

rakṣodaityakulaṁ hataṁ kiyadidaṁ yogādivartmakriyā
mārgo vā prakaṭīkṛtaḥ kiyadidaṁ sṛṣṭyādikaṁ vā kiyat
medinyuddharaṇādikaṁ kiyadidaṁ premojjvalāyā mahā-
bhaktervartma karīṁ paraṁ bhagavataścaitanya-mūrtiṁ stumaḥ

Anuvāda: Rāma-nṛsiṁhādi avatāre rākṣasakula o daityakulera ye vināśa-sādhana, tāhā emana ki hitajanaka mahat kārya! kapilādi avatāre ye sāṅkhya-yogādi kriyāmārga-pradarśana, tāhāi vā emana ki gurutara! guṇāvatāra brahmādira ye janmasthemabhaṅgādi-līlā, tāhārai vā mahattva kataṭuku! kimbā, varāhāvatāre pralaya-jalamagnā pṛthivīra uddhāra sādhanādi ye anuṣṭhāna, tāhāo emana ki kalyāṇakara viṣaya! (se sakalake āmarā bahumānana kari nā; tāhā gaurasundarera premadānera nikaṭa sāmānya mātra) āmarā śrī-bhagavānera premojjalā parama-bhaktira patha-pradarśaka, sarvāvatāra-śreṣṭha śrī-caitanya-rūpera stuti kari.

Translation: What beneficial great act is the killing of demons by the incarnations of the Lord such as Rāma, Narasiṁha and so on. How great is the revelation of the paths of yoga and karma by Kapila and the demigods. What great act is the creation and destruction of the universe by Brahmā and Śiva. How beneficial is the act of lifting up of the earth by the incarnations of Varāha and so on. We do not consider all these acts to be very great in comparison to Lord Caitanya’s act of bestowing prema. We praise the Supreme form of Lord Caitanya who displayed the path of mādhurya-bhakti or mādhurya-prema.

Jayapatākā Swami: This verse glorifies avatāras and great souls that have done wonderful things, and but then they are compared to what Lord Caitanya did, giving out pure love of Kṛṣṇa, they thought that the different acts are insignificant, compared to Lord Caitanya. He gave love of Kṛṣṇa which is normally not easily achieved. So, He was giving out that which is incomparable. So, He bestowed love of Kṛṣṇa which normally could not be achieved. Lord Caitanya therefore is considered as the best of all – parama karuṇa pahū dui jana, nitāi gauracandra, saba avatāra-sāra śiromaṇi, kevala ānanda-kanda.
