Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 8

Anuvāda: Yāṅhāra śrī-muthakānti koṭi-koṭi pūrṇacandrera śobhā haiteo sundara, yini premānanda-payodhira sudhāṁ-śusvarūpa, yāṅhāra mukhapadmera madhura hāsya candrakiraṇera nyāya manohara, sei śrī-caitanya-candrake āmarā namaskāra kari.

Translation: I offer respects to Caitanya-candra, whose face shines like a million moons, (Jayapatākā Swami: We call this temple as Caitanya Candrodaya Mandir because Lord Caitanya is rising from the east.) He has a smile which is very brilliant, very wonderful. Like He has risen from the ocean of bliss of pure love for Lord Kṛṣṇa. It says that Lord Caitanya-candra, His face is as splendid as millions of moons, and His smile is charming like moonlight. So, we call this temple as Caitanya Candrodaya Mandir because Lord Caitanya’s smile, His effulgence, are all like the moonlight and He appeared here in Navadvīpa Dhāma just to bless the entire world.

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 9

bhuvana-maṅgala-maṅgala caitanya-candrera praṇāma—

yasyaiva pādāmbuja-bhakti-labhyaḥ premābhidhānaḥ paramaḥ pumarthaḥ
tasmai jagan-maṅgala-maṅgalāya caitanya-candrāya namo namaste

Anuvāda: Ekamātra yāṅhāra pādasaroje ananya-bhakti haitei parama-puruṣārtha prema lābha haya, tumi sei jagan-maṅgalerao maṅgala-svarūpa caitanya-candra, tomāke āmarā punaḥ punaḥ praṇāma kari.

Translation: I offer repeated respects to Caitanya-candra, the most auspicious among everything auspicious in the universe. Devotion to His lotus feet allows one to attain the highest human goal called prema.

Jayapatākā Swami: So here the secret glory of Lord Caitanya is being revealed to the reader and then one can achieve unparalleled kṛṣṇa-prema by merely seeing Lord Caitanya’s smile. So, devotion to His lotus feet reveals that kṛṣṇa-prema. There are many auspicious things, but of all the auspicious things, the most auspicious thing is the smile of Lord Caitanya. So, Śrīla Prabhupāda, he installed small Rādhā Mādhava, Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu and when he installed these Deities, the large Rādhā Mādhava which we have now, had not manifested. We had the wonderful Lords, Nitāi-Gaura, Māyāpur-candra, as our worshipable Deities. You see Lord Caitanya is described as the moon because the moon gives light. At the same time, the moon is very cooling. So, the sun is very bright, the moon is very cooling. This is Caitanya-candra – the moon of Lord Caitanya. So that is why Lord Caitanya came to cool down the universe.

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 10

Anuvāda: Aho! Rādhābhāve yini kṛṣṇa-viṣayakaparama nigūḍha-rase nimagna, yini nṛtyāveśe kanakadaṇḍa-sadṛśa prakāṇḍa bāhudvaya ūrddhve tuliyā, kara-yugala o caraṇayugala itastataḥ sañcālana karitechena, ati sundara tāṇḍava-nṛtye yāṅhāra varavapu vicañcala haiyāche, ‘hari! hari!’—ei anirvacanīya śabdottha harṣagarvādi-bhāva-sambalita premānanda-dhvani dvārā yini akhila-jagatera yāvatīya amaṅgala vināśa karitechena, sei padmapalāśa-prasara-nayana avatāra-kula-cūḍāmaṇi śrī-caitanya-candrake āmi vandanā kari.

Translation: I offer respects to lotus-eyed Caitanya-candra, the crest jewel of all the forms of the Lord, incomparably overwhelmed with rasa, who destroyed inauspiciousness in the world by shouting in intoxicated bliss “Hari! Hari!” While vigorously moving His hands and feet, His body quivering as He danced with golden rod like upraised arms.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya, His appearance was such that it reminded you of various auspicious things. Just like His arms upraised like golden rods and the rasa, He was feeling in the rasa of loving Kṛṣṇa. This love of Kṛṣṇa, destroyed all the inauspiciousness of the world and His body was quivering in ecstasy. He was just chanting the holy names, “Hari! “Hari! Lord Caitanya, He liked to chant and when He chanted, He would be totally absorbed and He would be fixing His consciousness on the lotus feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa and He was instructing everyone to chant the holy names.

Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare
Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare!

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 11

Translation: O Śrī Caitanya-candra, I offer You my repeated obeisances. You are the personification of Kṛṣṇa’s blissful pastimes, and You are extraordinarily beautiful, having a dazzling golden luster. You have awarded to the people of the world the topmost mellows of ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa.

Commentary by Jayapatākā Swami: In the final part of the Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Lord Caitanya is revealing the conjugal mellow of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes. This was not revealed before but Lord Caitanya had revealed it. I was thinking that this Caitanya-candra – the recent moon journey launched by the scientists ISRO, Candrayana 3, here we see that Lord Caitanya, He was revealing as Caitanya-candra. Although the Candrayana 3 or whatever they could only find dust, but somehow Lord Caitanya, He revealed how Kṛṣṇacandra, His loving rasa that’s something that’s really special. And Lord Caitanya when He would see the different pastimes, He would be choked up and He would also have unlimited tears flowing from His eyes. And so, He was giving what was not given before – the love of Kṛṣṇa. And so, when He would circumambulate the Jagannātha Purī temple, He had four kīrtana parties. One on each side and then in each party, there was a dancer. Like, Advaita Gosāñī, whenever the dancer would come close to Him, He would embrace him, especially Vakreśvara Paṇḍita, he is the incarnation of Aniruddha. He could dance for 72 hours nonstop! three days, nonstop! And each party had at least one mṛdaṅga and four karatālas. But somehow here there were four more kohls and 16 karatālas. People would gather and see Lord Caitanya dancing in ecstasy. Then He would catch the different dancers of each group. When Lord Caitanya came first to the Jagannātha temple He fainted in love of Godhead. I got complaint letters from the security guards. The security of Jagannātha temple they wanted to beat Lord Caitanya and thought He was crazy. But Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya saw He had some special qualities, so he told them to bring Him to my temple. And Lord Caitanya He was in nirvikalpa-samādhi, He was hardly breathing but someone held a cotton swab in front of Lord Caitanya’s nostrils and a couple of hairs were moving and then Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya understood that he was alive. Then the other devotees caught up and started chanting in the ear of Lord Caitanya. And brought Him back to consciousness.

Today the devotees from Mangaluru showed me a drama of Lord Jagannātha. Actually, how many Deities asked to be worshiped? We are so fortunate that these Deities asked to be worshiped by ISKCON! These Deities, they are very prāṇa-pratiṣṭha, they are like self-manifest and they perform various miracles. In our temple we allow to come, even the Muslims. One Muslim came and the pūjārī offered him a khāja sweet. But he took it and threw it and said, “I don’t take the food of the idols!” “Then why did you come here?”, the pūjārī asked. “We give prasāda to everybody and if you don’t believe in our Deities, then don’t come here.” So then he left. Next day he came back and he offered his obeisances to the Deities. He came up to the pūjārī and said, “Please give me some prasāda.” The pūjārī said, “What is wrong with you? Yesterday you took it and threw it, and today you are begging for it?” “You see, I had a dream last night,” he said. “The one with the white face, He said, “You threw My brother’s prasāda, I will kill you!” And the lady she said, “Kill him, kill him.” But the one with the black face, smiling, He said, “It is his first offence, it is not that serious, let him go. So I believe, I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE, I DO BELIEVE! I want Jagannātha prasāda! I BELIEVE!” So, these Deities there is a whole book on Their pastimes and these Deities asked to be worshiped by ISKCON.

And some newscaster, video takers they came up from Odisha and said that these Deities were here before Lord Jagannātha, He was hiding, He came here So they told the whole history, how there was a demon who was sucking the blood. And the pūjārīs from Jagannātha came here and told Indradyumna and finally King Indradyumna cleared the demon away and brought Him back to Jagannātha Purī. But Lord Jagannātha, He came back here. So, this is the same place where He was before.
