Introduction: So, we continue with this pastime of Lord Caitanya, is preparing to take sannyāsa and leave Navadvīpa. So this is a very difficult pastime. Lord Caitanya said that He was coming for three purposes – first purpose was to establish the saṅkīrtana process and liberate the fallen souls. Second purpose was to experience the love of the devotees for Kṛṣṇa, because, if you remember, Rukmiṇī-devī told Kṛṣṇa that He knew everything, “You know what Brahmā is doing in Satya-loka, what Śiva is doing in Kailāsa, but there is one thing He doesn’t know that Rādhārāṇī knows, Rukmiṇī knows”, but He didn’t know. He was surprised to hear that there was something He didn’t know. He wanted to know what that was. And Rukmiṇī replied, “You don’t know how much Your devotee loves You. And in what way we love You. I know, Rādhārāṇī knows, but You don’t know.” So, one of His purposes of this avatāra as Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu was to experience the love of the devotee for Him. To do that He had to become His own devotee, and it seems that now Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu has started the saṅkīrtana movement, and He is now concentrating on the second purpose. Although He will do the first purpose, but the focus is more on the second purpose. Today’s chapter is:

Jayapatākā Swami: Mother Śacī became like a mad, wild woman. She went everywhere, in the four directions. Whoever she saw in Navadvīpa, she asked, whether they had heard the rumor about Lord Gaurāṅga taking sannyāsa.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.4

Jayapatākā Swami: “My dear son, don’t leave, don’t leave! Don’t leave Your mother! This sinful person is only surviving by looking at Your lotus face!”

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.7

Jayapatākā Swami: In Your presence, I will take poison and die, and with my ears, I will never hear that You have accepted sannyāsa. We are seeing the extreme love of mother Śacī. Who is practically speaking like a mad woman. She has so much emotion and love for Lord Caitanya. She cannot think how she will live without His presence. And she is speaking very plaintively and sorrowfully.

Jayapatākā Swami: Your beautiful hair, decorated with jasmine flowers, falls upon Your shoulders. Seeing Your auspicious appearance, soothes my life.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.23-24

(gaurāṅga he!)—

kamala-nayana tora śrī-candra-vadana
adhara suraṅga, kunda-mukutā-daśana

amiyā varikhe yena sundara vacana
nā dekhi vāṅciba ki se gajendra-gamana

Translation: “How will I survive without seeing Your lotus eyes, Your moonlike face, Your reddish lips, Your pearly teeth resembling kunda flowers, or Your elephant like gait? And how will I survive, without hearing Your words that shower nectar?”

The face of Śrī Gaura Hari has been compared to the moon, His teeth have been compared to kunda flowers or pearls, and His every step has been compared to the walking of the elephant.

Jayapatākā Swami: We can see how mother Śacī is meditating on the auspicious features of Lord Gaurāṅga. How she is thinking, without seeing her divine son, how it would be impossible for her to survive. So actually, seeing the qualities of the Lord, it is incomparable. So, if we can also be absorbed in this meditation of the beautiful features of Lord Gaurāṅga, we may awaken some love in our hearts. But for mother Śacī, to think of being separated from her son, as she is meditating on all His divine qualities, she is finding it very, very difficult, or I would say, she is practically, lamenting like a mad woman, in love of Lord Caitanya, her divine son.

So, there are 25 more verses and we will continue tomorrow.
