Jayapatākā Swami: Who all of you have taken vows to chant 16 rounds and follow the four regulative principles? Are there… are anyone who have not? So, now we start with śraddhā, then sat-saṅga and bhajana-kriyā. On the level of bhajana-kriyā, one takes initiation. After that there is anartha-nirvṛtti, when the different anarthas have to be slowly cleared by devotional service. When the anarthas reduce quite a bit, then at that stage is niṣṭhā. There are different kinds of anarthas. Like there are upa-sakhas. lābha, pūjā, pratiṣṭhādi – Lord Caitanya said, and niṣiddhācāra, kuṭi-nāṭi, jīva-hiṁsā – get out of these anarthas. Like between two devotees fighting, it is called kuṭi-nāṭi. Like a person has not done anything but someone tells another person the person has done something. And the third person says is that so? And they get into a fight! This is kuṭi-nāṭi. One should not indulge in this kind of activity. Like a devotee says, that devotee has become an upa-cakrapati, whereas I should have been an upa-cakrapati. Like I have been a devotee for a few months, but I did not get a 2 in 1 tape recorder. I need to get something. By doing devotional service we need kṛṣṇa-prema. We don’t want any materialistic things, even though others may want such things. This way if reduce our attachment to materialistic things goes down and desire for devotional service to the lotus feet of Krsna increases, that is good. So gradually, one can come closer to Kṛṣṇa. From niṣṭhā we go to the stage of ruci. Like when we do Harināma then we get a taste and feel good. From ruci we reach āskati. Then we are attached to doing Harināma. Doing worship for the Lord, doing service to the Lord is our attachment. After that there is bhava-bhakti. rati, bhāva is the stage before prema. We want that. All of you will learn about prema-bhakti and come up to that stage. And after this life, you go back to the spiritual world!
Now in the level of bhajana-kriyā you are getting initiated. I hope that all of you had taken shelter from me earlier. I am now 76 years old. I want that my senior male and female disciples become gurus. You are all students now. But how long will you stay as students? You should advance. In the future, you can become teachers. This should be your vision. Śrīla Prabhupāda said that it took him 20 years to achieve perfection. How many years it will take us, we don’t have any idea. You read Śrīla Prabhupāda’s books and gradually you can spread the teachings of Kṛṣṇa. Like Lord Caitanya said, yāre dekha, tāre kaha ‘kṛṣṇa’-upadeśa [Cc. Madhya 7.128]
