Translation: The constable continued: “That sannyāsī is performing some kind of ghostly saṅkīrtana. I do not know how many people have joined Him.”
Jayapatākā Swami: The constable is thinking that the congregational chanting of the holy name saṅkīrtana is some kind of satanic or ghostly observance that’s why he is reporting like this to the Nawab. Even today people misunderstand the saṅkīrtana. They don’t know that this chanting is the pure chanting of the holy name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead to invoke His mercy on all the fallen souls.

Jayapatākā Swami: So the people of Bengal are blessed by Lord Caitanya’s presence and He was chanting, dancing, and was engaging in saṅkīrtana-yajña, uncountable people were assembled to watching Him and they spontaneously also began to chant.
