Śrī Caitanya-Śikṣāmṛta

The Nectar of the teachings of Śrī Caitanya

Today’s chapter is: First shower—Third stream

As long as the consciousness rushes towards that supreme absolute truth due to the false ego of material knowledge and science, that truth is easily stays far away.

When the fortunate person painfully calling out to Kṛṣṇa in a consciousness of being humbler than the blade of grass, experiences the absolute truth and enjoys immense happiness. When out of good fortune, faith arises, then the person does not stay bewildered in material pride and does not become an offender of the holy name. Caste, creed, material education, beauty, strength, power of material science and so on, high position, wealth, kingdom etc. do not work in the practice of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Therefore, the truth of Kṛṣṇa is naturally very far away for such people proud of the caste. If all these reasons are considered, the reason for the present-day contempt for kṛṣṇa-tattva will be easily seen.

Note: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 11.5.9:

śriyā vibhūtyābhijanena vidyayā
tyāgena rūpeṇa balena karmaṇā
jāta-smayenāndha-dhiyaḥ saheśvarān
sato ‘vamanyanti hari-priyān khalāḥ

The intelligence of cruel-minded persons is blinded by false pride based on great wealth, opulence, prestigious family connections, education, renunciation, personal beauty, physical strength and successful performance of Vedic rituals. Being intoxicated with this false pride, such cruel persons blaspheme the Supreme Personality of Godhead and His devotees.

Jayapatākā Swami: Things that most people are desiring – great wealth, opulence, presitigious family connections and education, renunciation, personal beauty (women will understand!). People who have this, they have a heavy weight, build up their muscles and they are very proud, they don’t get to see Kṛṣṇa. But even Bhīma and Arjuna, they were incredibly strong, but they were not proud of it. He would shoot arrows, but they were not part of that, what they considered most important was association with Kṛṣṇa. If one is proud of his material environment, it could impede him from seeing Kṛṣṇa. So you should be not distracted by material opulence of the body and blaspheme the Supreme Personality of Godhead and His devotees.

Kṛṣṇe matir astu!
