The following is a lecture given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on December 13, 1981 – in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The lecture begins with a reading from Bhagavad-gītā 4.10.

Being free from attachment, fear and anger, being a fully absorbed enemy and taking refuge in Me, many persons in the past became purified by knowledge of Me, and thus they all attained transcendental love for performed by our founder Acharya his Divine, who has preached his Anatan.

Dharma all over the world.

The Commentary as described above, it is very difficult for a person who is too materially affected to understand the personal nature of the supreme Absolute Truth. Generally, people who are attached to the bodily conception of life are so absorbed in materialism that it is almost impossible for them to understand that there is a transcendental body which is imperishable, full of knowledge and eternally blissful. In the materialistic concept, the body is perishable, full of ignorance and completely miserable. Therefore, people in general keep this same bodily idea in mind when they are informed of the personal form of the Lord. For such materialistic men, the form of the gigantic material manifestation is supreme or the virat or consequently they consider discipline to be impersonal.

To get free from three stages of the material conception of life, one has to take complete shelter of the Lord, guided by the gloomified spiritual Master, and follow the disciplines and regular principles of devotional life. The last stage of devotional life is called Bhava, or Transcendental Love of Godhead. According to the Bhakti Rosamnita Singh, the Science of Devotional service.

In the beginning.

One must have a preliminary desire for self realization. This will bring one to the stage of trying to associate with persons who are spiritually elevated. In the next stage one becomes initiated by an elevated spiritual master and under his instruction, the neophyte devotee begins the process of devotional service. By execution of devotional service under the guidance of the spiritual master, one becomes free from all material attachment, attains steadiness and self realization, and acquires a taste for hearing about the absolute personality of Godhead. Śrī Kṛṣṇa. Bhaktivedant Goswami Gopal at the age of 70, he went from India to America. That was in 1965 for the purpose of spreading Sanātana Dharma.

Especially to bring.

The message of Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s message is the very message that we are reading here today.

In Bhagavad Gītā Kṛṣṇa has said, those.

Who give out fear, attachment and anger.

Who take shelter of me, they become purified and they achieve transcendental love for me. Chaitanya Mahāprabhu’s system of implementing the Vedic teachings is for bringing this transcendental Love into the heart. So when our Prabhupāda went to the western countries, he won the minds of the people with the philosophy of the Bhagavad Gītā and with the ecstasy of love for Kṛṣṇa. After North America, the movement has spread to Europe, Africa, Latin America, Asia, Australia, Russia, China, Japan. Now it is covered the whole world. Every year at Śrī Mayanpur Dhamma in West Bengal.

At the birthplace of Chaitanya.

Mahāprabhu, we have a worldwide conference. There, people from Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, all the different sects, all the different countries of the world, they all come and they all chant this. Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare Rāma, Hare Ram Ram Hare Hare Mahā Mancha together and take.

The Bhagavad Prasada, the Mahā Prasad.

Just recently in Calcutta, we had a.

Conference called the Aim of Our Faith.

Some of our swamijis from Iran and Arabia, Lebanon, they came in lecture. Previously they were known as Muhammad Yahya Yusuf. Now his name is Rabannari Das, Ādi Kari Maharaj. So he is also coming into Madras.

Coimbatore and Kerala and Bengalur, along with.

Other groups, our followers of Chaitanya Mahāprabhu who have come from Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, Muslim faiths to show that the ultimate goal of all religion, of all human.

Life is fulfilled in this teaching as.

Given in the Gītā, that is to develop love for the Supreme Lord. Everyone knows that we are having so much attachment for this body, for the products of the body, our children, for the counterpart of the body, our wife, for the place of birth of our body, our motherland, everything is based on this body. But Kṛṣṇa is telling Arjuna that this body is created, the soul enters, it goes from the childhood to the youth.

To the old age.

Again it is dying and the soul goes to a new body. Why we are spending so much effort only this one body? What about the next body? What about the eternal soul? You may be wondering how is it that people from all the different faiths, from all the different countries, why they have accepted this Bhagavad Gītā, Seema, Bhagavad Mahapurāṇam, Vistanathan Dharma. This is not a very difficult question to answer. That teaching, Kaumanam, Jovanandara, Handaraprati, Vira Sattanamuyati, the teaching. And from Kumāra or the very childhood, to Jauvaram, to the youth, to Jorah, to all ages, everybody is changing. Is that teaching only for the Hindus? Only the Hindus are going from childhood to youth to old age. The Muslims, they are not going from childhood to youth to old age. The Christians are not going from childhood to youth to old age.

The dogs and cats, the atheists, they are not going from childhood to youth to old age. Bhakti Vidanta, Swami Prabhupāda, he went to the West. He said, we are not preaching religion. This is the science of the soul. You must know what is the science of the self. Otherwise you do not know anything. If you do not know what is the self and what is the super self, the super soul of Parivatma, then what do you know? He boldly told the people in the western countries when he arrived in Australia. All the reporters, newspapermen, they surrounded Swamiji, you have come from a poor country. We are rich, technically advanced country. This is 10 years ago. So why have you come? Swamiji, he said, I have come here to save you from a dog’s life. They said what? Save us from a dog’s life?

How is our life a dog’s life? Dog is eating, you are eating. Dog is sleeping, you are sleeping. Dog is having children. You are meeting with men and women, procreating, dog is fighting with each other. You’re also fighting in so many wars. What is the difference between you and a dog? Only you are doing it in a big way and dog is doing in a humble way. What is the difference? They said, yes, you are correct. Human life means more than eating, mating, sleeping and defending. Human life means the quest for the truth means to know, to inquire into the absolute truth and ultimately to develop to realize our relationship with the supreme, who we are, what is this world, to act in that relationship and to achieve the perfection of life that is called Samanga, Gyan, Avideya and Prayoja and Sanskrit.

So in the world there are various types of rituals, various type of religions, various types of faiths, various type of people.

Basically Gītā has described that there are.

Three Gunas, Software, Rajas, Tamas, goodness, passion and ignorance. Those people who are in the most ignorance and passion, they generally are atheist. They don’t believe in God. If they believe in any form of God then they only approach that form of the Lord by whatever name they call to get something from him. God, give us our daily bread, give us a good husband, give us a good wife, give us a good brain balance, give us a good health, protect us from the snake bites, so on and so forth. This is Thomas Rajos level. They are only approaching God in any form to get from him something in exchange. Otherwise they don’t accept God at all. Satwa, the Person who is in mode of goodness. He has understood that this world is asat. That at the end of this world everything is destroyed.

Therefore he wants to achieve the eternal life. The person goodness. He wants moksha. But there’s one higher level. That is the transcendental level. Chinuvaya, the Chinmaya level. Above the Māyā Kṛṣṇa describes in Gītā, Mancha, Saguna and Samatita. Y Tana Ramaya, Kaurupade that my Bhakti, their love for me. There is Sagunatheet Gunatheet means above the three modes of nature. There is Brahma Bhuaya, there is Dandi Brahma, Bhuta, Prasanatma platform, the transcendental platform. That is the fourth category. The person who is approaching the Lord only out of love. The problem is we have very little faith. We have experienced that in the family there are the children. Children are coming to the parents. Mommy, daddy, give me this, give me that. Mother and father are giving. But when the children go up, mother and father would be very happy.

If the child will give something of service to their parents out of love like that Bhagawan, he is very happy. If a living entity comes to him for any reason, even they ask him, give me this, give me that, give me money, give me liberation. But if they come to him and said, Lord, you have given me everything. Everything has come from you. You are our friend, you are well wisher, let me do something for you. If we invest our money into certain type of investment fund, they are guaranteeing a certain interest back. We are putting our faith in those investment funds. If we invest our energy and give something to Kṛṣṇa, give something to Bhagavān out of love. Whatever you like, whatever is good for me. You give me whatever will help me to come closer to you. He gives beyond our expectation.

But we are already making so many plans. So for our particular plan we are asking, help me with this. But our plans are all failures. We make a plan, we try to fulfill it. Ultimately that plan is not successful. Even if we achieve our plan, it does not satisfy us. The desires are endless. But when we give our love to Kṛṣṇa, he reciprocates in such a way that we are fully satisfied. Just like it has been described that the Lord is the root of the whole tree and we are like leaves and branches on the tree of existence. If we water the root of the tree, the whole tree becomes nourished. If we try to sprinkle some water on the leaves, what will be the benefit?

By giving water to the root Automatically, every leaf and branch and twig, every part of the tree is completely satisfied and nourished to its full satisfaction. There is the symptoms of life. Thinking, feeling and willing. This table has no thinking, no feeling and no willing. This is made of Bhuni. Now Bhayu come visit. This is a gross material object. It has no consciousness on its own. The Ātmā Jeevatra is Chitkona, Jīva Chitkona. This is described very clearly in the Vedas. The Chit Kona has got thinking, feeling and willing. But this dead material object has not got those qualities. When the soul leaves this body is simply a dead piece of matter. You can throw it in the water. No one wants a dead body. You want to burn it? Get rid of it. It stinks. It smells. It becomes poisonous, rotten.

What is missing from the body, that’s the Ātmā. Ātmā is a different creation. This is not a question of sectarian understanding. This is basic science. Every university, every college, every high school, every primary school, they should be teaching what is the ātmā. Even Aristotle, Plato, they also had a conception of Ātmā. But our sciences failed to follow up the clue. So the Ātmā is a very small particle. But it is a different creation. It is a spiritual creation. Spiritual means it is conscious. It has thinking, feeling, willing. This material energy does not have that quality. So some very foolish philosophers, they find thinking, feeling and willing through this body very painful. So they think that if they can merge into the Brahman, that will give them peace. But the great Vaishnava Acharyas have rejected those type of philosophy as being absolutely unacceptable and childish.

We should not carry our material concept into the spiritual realm. Because thinking, feeling, willing through our material mind and body is painful. That does not mean that in liberated state, thinking, feeling and willing is also painful. That is the Satsirananda Jivan Ramachandra. He has so many great devotees like Ruman, Lord Padmanabha. He is always being served by Bhru, Devī Śrī Devī Neela, Devī Garud, Kumar, Sukhadev, Narad. Lord Kṛṣṇa is being served by Arjuna Judistra, Uddhava, by the Gopīkas, by Nanda Jasoda. There is described giving Brahma is known in three forms by different types yogis. But it is there’s only one absolute truth. They are simply looking from different ways. Those who are Gyanis, they see it as Brahman. Those who are Asangaraja yogis, they see it as Paramātmā. And those who are Bhakti yogis, they see him as Bhagawan.

So this thinking, feeling willing, if that is absorbed in the Lord to love. If that is absorbed in the Lord to love, that love is the highest Samadhi. Other type of philosophers, they have to remain in the Anam. Then they can be in samadhi. Hanuman, he burned down Lanka incomplete Samadhi, thinking only of Sitara Arjuna, he fought Kuruksha to Jud Hai, the battle of Kurukshet in complete Samarki. That is the process of Bhakti Yoga through Karma, through the action. If one develops the Prema, the love, even in the action, he is in complete Samaji. Why should they emerge? Why should they give up to individuality when they are getting the highest ecstasy of Samadhi through their seva, through their loving exchange with the Lord. So Caitanya Mahāprabhu, he crossed over all of the barriers of caste clean time.

Even though when he appeared in Bengal, who was the mobile rule, he stopped all conversion. And he also got the complete protection of the Nawaz Hussein Shah that let Caitanya Mahatma go on uninhibited, spreading his Premadharma of Sankirtanam. Chaitanya Mahu went from Bengal to Purī Orissa. And from there he went for six years on a complete tour of South India. He visited Trivandrum, he visits the Padmanavaji temple. Maybe this year he walked over throughout South India. Today everyone knows Hare Kṛṣṇa. Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare Ram, Hare Ram Ram Hari Hari. Everyone knows in Ayyappa temples, in Shiva temples, in Vishnu temples, everyone is chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa Harira. But who brought Hare Kṛṣṇa Hari Ra to the south that we forget. I will propose it was only Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. He did not establish any temple, but he simply went from village to village Padayatra.

And he begged everyone to chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa Mahavancho. Still today that chanting is going on. But we have forgotten Caitanya Mahapur. In the Vedas is described Bhagavān is three Yuga. He comes in Sattva Tretā, Darpa Yuga. It also mentions that in the Kalo in the Kaliyug he comes as a devotee, as a Sannyāsa. And he comes especially in this Kali Yuga to spread the Saṅkīrtana of himself. This Saṅkīrtana Jagya is especially the Jagya recommended for this age. Every Acharya will agree that this is the recommended process for the Kaliyug Vedas. In the Satya Yugaana Shrita Yam Najita Makai Shriti Yuga was home Yagya Darpayam Prichard Jayam Darpa Jug was Pūjā Archana in the temples, Kalota Kali Yuga, Saṅkīrtana. You can chant Saṅkīrtana in the bus, in the street, in your house, while going to sleep, while getting up.

Who has time to go to temple more than even a few minutes a day? And how many people go even for a few minutes a day? Khalid Yugali’s struggle for existence is more. But the Sankirtanami kingdom any place, anytime. So we don’t say that any Dharma is bad. All Dharma is good by definition. It is a medicine for our disease. Every day we go on the street, our clothes get dirty. We don’t hesitate to wash our clothes. No one would like to go to office or to temple or to see friends with a dirty clothes. When our clothes get dirty, we want to wash them and have only the clean cloth.

But we fail to know that when we are going every day in our business, in the cinemas, in the streets, in the tea stalls, everywhere that we may go, our consciousness is also becoming colored. Just like the dirt is coming on our cloth. Different type of Asad Sangh is going on to our chetana unto our consciousness. But what are we doing to cleanse the consciousness? What is the symptom of our consciousness going bad, going colored, becoming contaminated. Kama froze all over. Lust, anger, greed, envy. Brother and brother, they’re good friends. Suddenly they become angry. They fight overwhelmed. One acre of land own. Brother and brother are killing each other. Why? Because every day that dirt is coming on their consciousness, they’re not cleansing. So real cleansing is not only external body and cloth but there also must be cleansing of the consciousness.

So previously in Darpa Yuga, to come to the man and have a darshanam, that was a cleansing. But in Kali Yuga we are too much polluted. We do not have that much purity. Even when we take a darshanam to get the complete purity during a jungle. We don’t get that much purity in this age. That’s why we need a very strong purification here. The Ramayan was written by Valmiki Muni. But who was Valmiki Muni? Do we forget? He was Dasur Anakar. He was a murderer and a dacoit. But he was given Ramna that also indirectly. Mara, Mara Mara Mara Mara. He was told to chant Mara Kill kill. But contiguously. When he was chanting Mara Mara it came Ram Ram. Ram. Ram. Ram. By chanting Ram he became balanced. He was a high born Brahman from the Dravida Pradesh.

But he left his good wife. He left his good family. He fell down and began living with a low prostitute. And he began to steal and cheat just to maintain the children of that prostitute. Forgetting all his heritage, all his good qualities, everything he lost somehow by good fortune. He named his children after Nayan. At the time of his death, the Jama Duttas, the messengers of death came to grab him out. He saw them. He became afraid. He called for his son Narayan. Narayan. As he was calling n, he remembered Narayan who I was worshipping in my childhood. Narayan. When he remembered Narayan, all of his contamination washed off by one name. And immediately the Vishnu Dudras told the Yama Dudras, get out. He’s ours. He has called Narayan at the last moment. Therefore we take him. You have no right.

The Nama is the most powerful thing. It can purify the most sinful person, Lord Chaitanya. He purified people who were hopeless cases, who were murderers, who were rapists, who were lepers, so many types. By giving them the Hare Kṛṣṇa Mahā Mantra. He purified them and made them first class people. Those who were the very caste conscious people, they criticized. How could you take a Muhammad and make him an Acharya? How can you take a dacoit and make him into a. And make him into a Vaishnava? The Lord said. And they accounted what is more powerful, His Papa or the Lord Shakti? By the Lord’s name, power can easily be washed out. Once the power for the sinful activity is washed out, then only the pure soul is left. The pure soul is neither Brahma, neither Śūdra.

Pure soul is neither Avenike, neither Indian, nor Chinese, nor Ratchan, nor Kerala, nor Tamil Nadu, nor Muslim, nor Hindu. Pure soul is Chidkuna, part of the Supreme Lord. Supreme Lord has no name. He is beyond the Name. But there are certain names which do not apply to anyone but Him. If we call those names, only he will answer. Therefore those names are empowered by Him. The proof? Bhakti Vedānta, Swami Prabhupāda. He went to the west, all over the world, Africa, Asia, Europe, America. People asked him, Prabhupāda Ji, what do we have to do? Swamiji, to become initiated, you have to give up meat, fish, egg, eating onion and garlic. You have to give up smoking bd, cigarettes, coffee, tea, Ganza, wine, all type of intoxication. You have to lead a regulated married life.

Otherwise you don’t mix with women and you give up gambling and you have to chant everyday. Hare Kṛṣṇa. How is it possible? They thought. But those who chant with Hare Kṛṣṇa easily they could follow all these things. Why? That is the power of the now. So this Kali Yuga is recommended. Hare Nama Hare Namay va kevalam Kalo Vanaste Vanaste Vagachiram Nathana. This is the Viha da Radiya Purāṇa. Then in the Hari Naam the Harinam. The Harinam is the only way. In this Kali Yuga there’s no other way. No other way. No other way. With Harinam then you can have temple worship. Then you can have a Jag. Anything. Without Harinam nothing can be perfect. Daily that contamination is coming. We have to watch it. That’s why Caitanya Mabui call this chanting. Caitarpuna marginam Chaito Darpuna marginam.

He called the consciousness a mirror and that this chanting is marginal, washing the mirror of the consciousness. What happens when the consciousness is clean? Baba Mahā Devarabha that pain of birth, death, old hate, disease, that ocean of nectar increases unlimitedly at every step one is tasting the full nectar that we are always hankering for. Param Vijayate s Kṛṣṇa Sankirtanam So this Hare Kṛṣṇa Mahā Mantra is not something we have created. This is chanted by all people in the world. And it is given only in the Upanishad. In the Kali Santana Upanishad gives the mantra Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare Ramo Hare Ramon Ramo Hari Et soul to sakam nam Kalikalama Nata Parathul paya sarva be Deshu Vishtate these 16 names et Saudasikam nam na Kalikal ma the contamination of Khalid Narshima is destroyed by these 16 names chanted.

There’s no other alternative that is so effective. In this Kali Yuga Saravedesha Vishate this.

Is confirmed by all the devas.

So Caitanya Mahāprabhu he said that in order to practice this, one should become very tolerant person, very humble person. He asked his followers to go door to door and beg the people to take up this process of chanting. No matter what their background may be, no matter what their caste may be, Everyone can be requested, he said. Fatigarigari ghia koroi Bhiksha Boloka Bhaja Kṛṣṇa Koro Kṛṣṇa Shiksha Chant Kṛṣṇa worship Kṛṣṇa, study the teachings of Kṛṣṇa.

That means only Gītā and Bhagavad.

When we say Kṛṣṇa, that includes Rāma and Ayura.

That is how we divine Kṛṣṇa.

So Caitanya Maharabu, he requested everyone to just take up the chanting of Imam.

So do you want to just say.

That.

In the synopsis? You didn’t say how, but I said and just the last part. The Chaitanya Maham said for cleansing the consciousness, our clothes get dirty. That consciousness is also getting dirty by.

So much Māyā association.

We take our cloth and wash it. We have to wash the consciousness by chanting the Harinam. This is the recommended process for Kalam Yuga. Like I need to say that much. No more than five minutes. Can I get some flowers?

Ra Har.

So now you translate sentence by sentence.

So we are on behalf of Chaitanya.

Mahāprabhu, we have started a campaign.

(Side B of the Cassette)

Cigarettes, coffee, tea, Ganza, wine. All type of intoxication. You have to lead a regulated married life. Otherwise you don’t mix with women and you give up gambling. And you have to chant everyday Hare Kṛṣṇa. How is it possible? They thought. But those who chanted Hare Kṛṣṇa easily, they could follow all these things. Why? That is the power of the now. So this Kali Yuga is recommended. Hare Nama, Hare Namay Va Kevalam Kalova Nasteva Nastya Gachiran Mit. This is the Brihadar Adiya Purāṇa that in the Hari Naam. The Hari Naam. The Hari Naam is the only way in this Kali Yuga there’s no other way.

No other way.

No other way. With Hari Naam then you can have temple worship. Then you can have a Jag. Anything. Without Harinam nothing can be perfect. Daily that contamination is coming. We have to wash it. That’s why Caitanya Mahabh we call this chanting Caitarpuna Marjanam. Caitarpuna Marjanam. He called the consciousness a mirror and that this chanting is Marjanam washing the mirror of the consciousness. What happens when the consciousness is clean? Baba Mahā Devadhi Nirvhapanam that pain of birth, death, O late disease Nirvapanam is finished. That ocean of nectar increases unlimitedly.

At.

Every step one is tasting the full nectar that we are always hankering for. So this Hare Kṛṣṇa Mahā Mantra is not something we have created. This is chanted by all people in the world and it is given only in the Upanishads. In the Kali Santarana Upanishad it gives the mantra. Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare Ramo Hare Ramon Hare Nata Parath, Upya Sarva, Vedeshu Vishate. These 16 names iti sodas. The contamination of Kali Nash is destroyed by these 16 names chanted. There’s no other alternative that is so effective in this Kali Yuga. This is confirmed by all the Vedas. So Caitanya Mahāprabhu he said that in order to practice this, one should become very tolerant person, very humble person. He asked his followers to go door to door and beg the people to take up this process of chanting.

No matter what their background may be, no matter what their caste may be, everyone can be requested, he said. Bhati Gari Gya Koro Biksha, Boloka Bhaja Kṛṣṇa, Koro Kṛṣṇa Shiksha, Chant Kṛṣṇa, worship Kṛṣṇa, study the teachings of Kṛṣṇa. That means only Gītā and Bhagavad.

When.

We say Kṛṣṇa that includes Rāma and Ayana, that is how we be Bhayan Kṛṣṇa. So Caitanya Maharabu, he requested everyone to just take up this chanting of the Mahā Mantra.

So we are, on behalf of Chaitanya.

Mahāprabhu, we have started a campaign in North India and South India.

Both the appearance day of our at the auspicious occasion of the establishment of our center in Kerala here at Trivandrum, visited by the golden avatar of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa. As a devotee in this Kali Yuga, Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Mahapuru who has visited and sanctified this already auspicious place, we are observing the first initiation ceremony of candidates from the congregation. I believe that Bhakti Sarup Swami and Banudas have explained about chanting the Holy Name. Chanting the Holy Name of Kṛṣṇa does not have any hard or fast rules for time, place, circumstance. The Holy Name of the Lord can be chanted anywhere, anytime, under all circumstances. Prahlad Muharas was thrown into the pit of snakes. He was chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa and the snakes, they did not bite him or endanger him whatsoever.

So whether thrown into a pit or whether walking in the sunlight, there’s no restriction for chanting the Holy Name of the Lord. The offenses that Bhakti Siddhaswamy had discussed, these offenses are on the subtle platform. They are on the spiritual platform. They are not limited by time, place or circumstances. They have to do with intention and neglect. Nonetheless, there’s no one who is more merciful than the Holy Name of Kṛṣṇa himself. Sometimes a devotee might think, then if I am not able to chant the Holy Name properly due to committing offenses, I shouldn’t chant. That’s why we chant on the name of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, Caitanya, Prabhunity, Advaita, Giral, Harasivas, Vigor. Because by their mercy even we commit some offense. By their mercy we can overcome those offenses. This is a special mercy of Caitanya Mahapuru.

That is why the followers of Lord Caitanya they make more rapid advancement while chanting the Holy Name than others. Because by Lord Caitanya’s mercy one is forgiven offenses and is able to rectify the offenses. In any case, Kṛṣṇa is so kind, His Holy Name is so kind that even if we commit an offense, still an offensive chanting of the Holy Name is better than no chanting. The only one circumstance that is advice is that we shouldn’t make a plan that I will commit a sinful activity and later I will chant and be forgiven for it. We can’t, so to speak, double cross the Lord. If by chance we commit a sinful activity, by chance we make some mistake, that’s another thing. We chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. We pray the Lord forgiveness to be rectified. That’s a sincere thing.

Just like sometimes the person, he begs Allah, he goes before the judge and says, it was my first time. I will never do it again. He’s let off on good behavior without any jail sentence. He’s sometimes released. All right, he’s not a hardened criminal. But if the criminal himself thinks that I will do the thing, then I will go to the judge and say, please let me off. And the judge knows that this is. He’s a. As soon as I let him go again, he will do it. Then naturally, better that he gets some punishment. So he gives up this bad habit. That’s the only thing. Someone who does that type of sinful activity then chants forgiveness rather than aim. He smashes him more that he can learn. Don’t do cheating him. If you make a mistake. That’s another thing. You can always beg forgiveness.

And you can always pray that you can be rectified. But don’t be insincere and think that I will do this. Even I know it’s bad later I will get forgiveness for that. Just take it. If you can’t help it. You do something wrong, then you have to pay for it. That’s better. That’s the best. The alternative. So anyway, the point is that in this Kali Yuga, of all the processes of Dharma, actually the recommended process for purification is chanting harinam. Chanting harinam may appear to be a very simple thing, but actually it is the greatest spirit process. It is practiced by people who are in a fallen condition to become purified. It is also practiced by the Nithya Siddha devotees like Narala Muni, who are wandering around the universe’s material and spiritual playing on his veena, singing always the name of Lord. Why?

Because the chanting of the holy Name is completely transcendent. The name is nad some type of dead vibration like radio or television. The name is a living personality and is the form of transcendental ecstasy. Rasa, Rasa, Vikraha, Kuna, Śuddha. It is completely pure Nity Muktoha, eternally liberated. And the Name and the Name, they’re not different. Kṛṣṇa and his Name, they’re no different. Actually, what this is simply doing is only re stressing Kṛṣṇa’s own position. Kṛṣṇa himself is a form of pure love for his Devotees, he is reciprocating. Kṛṣṇa himself is eternally pure, always liberated. So the Name and the Names are no different. Kṛṣṇa and His Name are the same, transcendental. Only the Name is so kind that Kṛṣṇa, even we desire, we cannot see him before us because we don’t have the vision to see Him.

Not that he cannot give us that vision, but we have to have that pure desire. Then he gives us the vision. Bhakti Dilokhanena. We have to get the eyes of Bhakti, eyes of love. Then we can see Kṛṣṇa. But Kṛṣṇa’s name is more kind that even we don’t have such a high standard of love or bhakti. The Name is coming on our lips and dancing. But even because of our impurity, we’re not able to fully appreciate the Name. That’s why while chanting, sometimes we’re not getting a face and our mind is wandering here and there.

But if we go on faithfully chanting, following the instructions of spiritual master, purifying our contamination by staying in contact with the purest of all, the Lord himself, then naturally, as our heart is cleansed, as our we get that first we get the vision of Bhakti in our ears. And while chanting, we can actually experience that Kṛṣṇa is dancing on our tongue. Great devotees of the Lord in all the different sampradayas within the Allahuas, they also commented that the Lord dancing on their tongue to the holy man. If we chant Hare Kṛṣṇa and we don’t immediately sense that complete ecstasy, that complete realization that the Lord is actually there in his name, we should not have a doubt that is some type of contradiction. We should know it is simply due to our own contamination, our own impurities.

And by chanting continuously in so many years of rebirth that we have gone through, which are contaminating our pure vision. Those will be wiped out and we will get the pure vision. So first we will be able to realize the Kṛṣṇa and His name are no difference. Just like the great devotees realize that Kṛṣṇa and his Vigraha is deity. Arshamurti is no different. Sometimes the devotees are praying to the deity. The deity is also talking to them. That is not an unusual thing. Kṛṣṇa is present as a deity form. He’s present as his holy name. Deity form. Maybe some may not believe immediately, but chanting Anyone can sing. I hear all day the boys are robbing back and forth. Some of them are singing some type of song. I assume that they’re popular songs.

They can just as easily sing Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare, Hare Ram, Hare Ram. Ram. Hari. Hari. It doesn’t matter that they don’t know even what it means. When our Śrīla Prabhupāda went to the west, he told the people chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. They don’t know what is Hare Kṛṣṇa. That’s better. Because when he told them chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, they all chanted very innocently. And by chanting they started to experience a change in heart, some happiness. And then they inquired, what is this? But they already had some faith because they were experiencing something. Sometimes we find india, you ask someone, chen Hare Kṛṣṇa, they say, no, that’s Dharma. I don’t have time for Dharma. Sometimes we find, not always. Sometimes we find they already have a prejudice against this is if you put your hand in fire, it will confirm.

If you chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, you will become affected. That affection, that contact only is purified. So to accept initiation, that is meaning a very advanced stage. That means that one has already accepted that there is no other alternative than to chant Hare Kṛṣṇa to achieve success in this Kali Yuga. And therefore one is formally accepting Hare Kṛṣṇa chanting from the spiritual master. By accepting chanting, when one takes initiation, that means he wants to finish up his material life and lead a fully spiritual life. In devotional service. That does not mean changing the external, except where the external is completely in opposition against serving the Lord. But it means changing internally the mood. It doesn’t mean that we have to exchange externally, but we have to change internally.

Normally, everything everyone is taking, this is my body, this is my family, this is my country, this is my religion on the basis of body. But when one says, no, this is my Lord and I am his. That idea I am his. When that comes in now, actually I am His. And who am I? I am eternally his servant. I am his spirit, soul. Then the relationship with him takes the prominence, then the bodily relationship. In this body, I am so and so, John, Harry, Bill Gopal, whatever. But in the next life I will be some other name. In the previous life I will be I was someone else. But eternally. Now I am realizing my relationship. I am the servant of Kṛṣṇa and I am taking his service that he has recommended for this age. Chanting his holy name, eating his prasadam, serving the devotees, surrendering unto Him.

So this process goes beyond all type of bodily consideration. This is a process of pure spiritual life. So at the time of initiation, one promises to avoid those things which shower against or obstacles for that devotion. Dharma is based on truthfulness, cleanliness, austerity and mercy. Those are destroyed by mediating Illicit sex, gambling and intoxication. Someone promises, I won’t do any meat eating, illicit sex, gambling or intoxication in this life. I will chant Hare Kṛṣṇa every day, a prescribed number of times. And if I have any difficulties, I will ask my spiritual master and take his advice as the words of Kṛṣṇa. As he advises me so I will do so. That means once a person has initiation, there is no need to ever bewildered again.

If there is any time, any doubt, any misgiving, he simply asks to ask his Whatever the spiritual master says, that’s the answer. Finish. So this actually means that if one simply follows this basic principle, follows the instruction of spiritual master, that this will be the last time he has to take birth in this material world. In that type of consciousness, by perfectly chanting and following, he will definitely be able to be transferred back to home, back to God. And if one fully takes up the essence of the teachings, he can achieve pure love for God. It’s not very difficult. It’s amazing that more people do not understand. So Caitanya Mahāprabhu, he requested his followers to be very kind and to be very merciful upon others.

And even if there’s some personal inconvenience, and requested that he told them that they should go to everyone and beg them in a humble way to chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, study the teachings of Kṛṣṇa and to worship Kṛṣṇa. So this is basically the mission of Caitanya Mahāprabhu is to change the consciousness of the people from a materialistic consciousness to a spiritual consciousness. Kṛṣṇa Bhavanam Vita consciousness filled with ecstatic appreciation of the Lord and his transcendental qualities. Thus transforming the whole world into a place of vaikuṇṭha or free from anxiety. That is the only way that it is possible. No other wisdom can succeed. So Vijayaga, come forward. Here, play your bashi. What are the four principles? How many times do you chant Hare Kṛṣṇa every day? They’re very nice names to begin with. So keeping the mood of those names.

Govinda was famous for giving shelter to his devotees and for doing tasks which no ordinary person could do. Even as a child, on the mother’s lap, he killed the putana witch. He lifted a Govardhan. That means that God is always God. He doesn’t become God. He is always God. So your name is Jaya Girigol. Jay Gobadanadari Das Brahmachari. Vijaya Gobar. Dhanadhari Dasari. You and your brother are teen. You have a string foot here on the 8th feet. Somehow your name was Vijay Damodar. Actually, Damodar he is tied not by actually by rope, but by the love of his mother. But also that Dhammada. He was attracting everyone by his transcendental pastimes. The difference between Damodar or Kṛṣṇa and Nārāyaṇa is that Nārāyaṇa has 60 qualities of Godhead, but Kṛṣṇa has 64. The four that Nārāyaṇa doesn’t have Nārāyaṇa that Kṛṣṇa has.

Kṛṣṇa has his exquisite flute. He has special type of devotees and he has wonderful pastimes. And even more than Nārāyaṇa, he’s got special exquisite beauty. That is why Kṛṣṇa is respected as the Swayam Bhagavān by great Acharyas. And even Narayan himself sometimes sees a picture of Kṛṣṇa and he becomes eager to appreciate that beauty. So your name is now Vijaya Bangsi Vihari Das Brahmacharya Kṛṣṇa who attracted everyone with his flute. You don’t have to read yet. And how many times Hare Kṛṣṇa per day? 16. So the great the spiritual master is considered to be the special favored person of Śrīmati Nagaram and to be also the representative of the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa as well as the lotus feet of Rah Kṛṣṇa. So your name is Churan. How many times har Kṛṣṇa per day? 16 months. Actually what you’re doing as occupation?

I am a tradesman in tradesman means. So your name T. Raghavan. You go by Raghavan but everyone calls it Raghavan. So Raghavan actually means Ramachandra the Bhagavān. So Lord Ramachandra, he gave shelter to all the devotees and he was able to kill the demons like Ravana. In Caitanya Pashtime there was a great contemporary of Narottam Das Thakur who was famous for composing beautiful songs and glorifying Kṛṣṇa. Therefore he is known as Kabidas. So his special characteristic is that simply by remembering his name in pastimes of great devotees like Ramchandra Kaviraj Arotum Das Thakur Sinivasacharya. People who became purified from all the reactions. So I am giving you the name Ramachandran Kaviraj Das. Hare Kṛṣṇa. Hare Kṛṣṇa.
