Jayapatākā Swami: So, Nārada Muni approached his father and guru, Lord Brahmā. He asked him, “I travel throughout the universe and during the Kali-yuga, how can I be freed from the contamination of Kali-yuga?”
Lord Brahmā said, “There is a very confidential mantra, if you chant that constantly then you will be free of the influence of Kali-yuga.”
Nārada muni asked, “What is that?”
Lord Brahmā said:
hare kṛṣṇa, hare kṛṣṇa, kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa, hare hare,
hare rāma, hare rāma, rāma rāma, hare hare
iti ṣoḍaśakaṁ nāmnāṁ
kali-kalmaṣa-nāśanam
nātaḥ parataropāyaḥ
sarva-vedeṣu dṛśyate
“After searching through all the Vedic literature, one cannot find a method of religion more sublime for this age than the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa.”
In all the Vedas you will not find a better alternative. So, you are having this Kīrtana-melā and I am very glad to be here! The Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is very special. Pārvatī asked Lord Śiva, “How will people in Kali-yuga survive? The senses are so wild like crocodiles! They freak out at moment to enjoy their senses. Therefore, they are suffering sinful reactions and karma.”
Lord Śiva replied, “If they chant twice ‘Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa’, ‘Kṛṣṇa’ twice, ‘Hare’ twice, ‘Hare Rāma’ twice, ‘Rāma’ twice, ‘Hare’ twice. Means:
Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/
Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare
So we are material beings, our names are different from ourselves. But Kṛṣṇa is Absolute. So His name, pastimes, etc. are non-different from Him. The śāstra says that the holy name of Kṛṣṇa is our BEST FRIEND! BEST FRIEND! We should always chant the holy name!
kaler doṣa-nidhe rājann
asti hy eko mahān guṇaḥ
kīrtanād eva kṛṣṇasya
mukta-saṅgaḥ paraṁ vrajet
(SB 12.3.51)
Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults – no end to it! Now there are wars, quarrels, bad karma, all kinds of unlimited defects. But there is one good quality, that is chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra:
Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/
Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare
You are all Vaiṣṇavas and Vaiṣṇavīs. You know the significance of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra. Even newcomers are attending Bhajana-clubbing! They know nothing! They hear the mantra, they feel like dancing, chanting! So, I hope that you all chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra to your hearts’ content! You will dance in ecstasy! Śrīla Prabhupāda brought us this Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra which is the greatest gift! He chanted it with us! So, chant, dance, raise your hands, express your love and in this way fulfill the mission of Lord Caitanya!
Candramouli Mahārāja here, told me that he is doing some kind of Prison program where there the prisoners were chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. You are all free, not in prison! I thank you all for being here and chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa! Kṛṣṇa’s holy name, He is pure and if we chant His holy name, we get association with Kṛṣṇa, we get purified! Hare Kṛṣṇa!
Gaurāṅga! Nityānanda! Gaurāṅga! Nityānanda!
My voice is a little bit down, but I will try to sing a little.
(Guru Mahārāja chanted and sang the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra for a few minutes!)
I would like to give a special thanks to His Grace Aindra Prabhu who dedicated his life to Harināma saṅkīrtana! Haribol! And also, Śrīla Prabhupāda, he is the main person who brought the Harināma mahā-mantra all over the world!
