Very fortunate and spiritually gifted persons. He was having different pastimes as a great scholar when his father left the world, when he was 14 years old. Then he went to the temple of Lord Vishnu in Gaya, known as the Vishnu Bhad temple. That temple was built millions of years ago, or hundreds of thousands of years ago, when it was so far before that. Just no record. No one knows exactly. I mean, it’s given what you got, but there’s no record of any time when it didn’t exist. It was so long ago, as far as recent calculations are concerned. So the whole city of Gaya is actually on top of a demon called the Daya Gayasura, who was defeated by Vishnu. And he put his chest, his foot on his chest, and he prayed for the boon that people will always worship me.
And so Vishnu said that, I will make this. You have this temple here, and my footprint people will come and worshiP, and this way, they will be worshipping on you. And he said, I will stay here then, so long as not one day goes by when someone comes and does the pūjā. But if someone doesn’t do the pūjā, and one day, if nobody comes for one day and does any worship, then again I will rise up huge, miles and miles long. The whole city is on his body for thousands. This is a legend. So every day, of course, somebody comes to worship their forefathers. Otherwise, the whole city, this is what the Brahmin is staying there. This is the story from all over INdia, south, even from NEpal, they all come and worship the lotus Vida VIshNu that are there. I personally seen a footprint of Vishnu.
An outline is there. And so when Lord Caitanya came to offer the prasadam and the water and the prayers to Vishnu’s feet on behalf of his deceased father, then at that point, he started to manifest his crying and devotional mood for Lord Vishnu. And there he took initiation Vishwar Purī. He is a diksha guru, initiating spiritual master. So when he came back to Navodiv, then he was chanting Kīrtana. And the movement of his son Kīrtana movement at that point actually began from him. So the other Brahmins, they thought, well, Nimay Pandit, he was a great scholar. They didn’t know that he was such a great devotee. So they were very pleased because the Bhakti mood of the people had been on a decrease, very critical stage.
So devotees like Shivas, all the devotees like Advaita, they were very pleased to see Lord Caitanya dancing and chanting in the Sankirta. So at that time, Lord Nithyananda, he came down from Matura. He was in Matura at that time. He came down and he met Chaitani Mahabrabhu, also devotees from different parts of India, mainly from the Bengal side. They were all congregating in Nabud. We’d been meeting with Lord Chetani Mahabharata. So everyone accepted Lord Shetanyamar was a great devotee. But at that time also, they couldn’t recognize that he was actually Kṛṣṇa. Sometimes devoted, had a darshan. Some pastimes are there. And therefore the word was sometimes out. Maybe Lord Shaytan as the Kṛṣṇa avatar, but because the scripture predicted it, but no one could, there was no proof, so no one dare say it to or Cheetah.
He would cover his ears as he was playing the part as a devotee, Kṛṣṇa comes down to play, to act as to be his devotee, to give out his mercy of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. This is one of his most esoteric or most secret descents. When he comes in this covered mood, instead of coming as the lord of everything, Shahrab, Aloka, Maheshwaram, the master and lord of all the planetary systems, he came and as the devotee in the form, as a devotee. So then Lord Caitanya, he began to, he started this nocturnal kīrtana chanting at Śrīvast’s house. People were criticizing. So he wanted to start this kīrtana movement. So he called the devotees together and they would chant in Sivas house. And so many times non devotees wanted to come in and just criticize and break up and disturb.
So Lord Caitanya, he wouldn’t let them in. He just had it for devotees only. And then inside, they would have the most ecstatic kirtans that they would be dancing and crying because there was only devotees. So they didn’t suppress their emotions because there wasn’t any outsiders at all to see. And spontaneously, their different feelings were coming out. Sometimes outsiders who tried to, by devious means, sneak in and see. But when they were there, then Lord Caitanya, like one time, there was one maidservant, she tried to come in to see when they would be chanting in Kīrtana. No one was getting any ecstasy. Lord Chetanya said, some outsider is here, and they searched in there. She was hiding in some bushes to look and see what was happening and get out.
And so one day, Caitanya Mahabrabhu, he, you know that how Lord Caitanya came down. Lord Caitanya Mabu was actually called by Advaita Ghost. Advaita Gosai was the topmost of all the Brahmanas. Brahmanas are two types india. They’re those who worship Vishnu. They’re known as vaishnavas, or surahs. And then there’s those who worship different demigods. They are considered daityo, or demonstration. They worship demigods for different material facilities, and they don’t. They consider Vishnu to be not in the exclusive position that he’s in. So, of course, the Advaita Gosai was the top of all the Vaishnav Ramanas. But the other brahmanas were there. Those were the ones who were opposed to Lord Jathan, the ones who didn’t believe in one supreme God, who recommended worshipping different demigods for specific material facilities. So when Lord Caitanya came there, he also received some opposition from these people.
What I might point I am making is that AdVaita GOsai, he started to see that this different type of atheistic philosophies and unauthorized activities were very much on the increase. Therefore, to counteract that, he felt himself incapable. So he started to pray to Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa, you must come down. If you don’t come down, then there’s no hope. To make these people attached to the devotional service of the lord is the most difficult thing. So Advaita Gosai was praying to Kṛṣṇa personally, come down and give his own bhakti. So he was loudly crying out to Kṛṣṇa, offering Tulasi, and in GanGes water to a Shaligram sheila just sitting by the side of the Ganges river, he loudly shout out, crying, fasting, doing penance, that Kṛṣṇa, please come. So his sincere crying is accepted as one of the primary calls for Chetanya Mahāprabhu coming down.
So one day, Lord Caitanya, he appeared in Śrīvast’s house for his son Kīrtana, and he called Śrīvast’s younger brother, Ramay. Rabbi. Rabbi, come here. Come here. So then Ramai naturally ran and paid his obeisances to Lord Caitanya. And this day, Lord Caitanya, he was in a different mood. He was in the mood as a.
(Side B of the Cassette)
He should come immediately. He’s being called. You tell him that person for whom he has done fasting and penance. That person who. For whom he has cried loudly. That person whom he has shouted loudly for he has come to distribute his own devotional service, his own bhakti. Tell Advaita Gosai he should immediately come with his wife and all the paraphernalia for doing the worship of Vishnu. Immediately go now and tell Advaita. So Ramaya was very enthused. He paid his obeisances and ran off to tell Advaita. But he didn’t know where Advaita lived. Even though I didn’t know where I lived because he was so absorbed in just carrying out Lord Caitanya’s order, he just ran. And somehow he just arrived at Advaita’s house. So then seeing Advaita made his obeisances and then he told Advaita that you were being called.
And before he could say anything, Adoiti said, what is this nonsense? How can the supreme lord appear in Nadia? Where does it say so, Rāma? I knew that well, Advaita is a very unusual personality. I didn’t say anything. And he’s already saying before me he knew that. And he’s saying in a reverse way, but not possible to know Advaita’s mind, of course, because he’s the origin of the paramātmā super soul in the heart. So he started chastising Ramai for something that he hadn’t even spoken yet, but which was just in his mind. So he just waited knowing that in this time it’s very critical to say anything. So after a little while, mood again changed and he said, what do you want anyway?
So he told the deuta that the same message that Lord Shaytan, that person for whom you were shedding profuse tears, who you’re loudly shouting for whom you performed so much, tapasya, that person has come here and is waiting for you at Śrīvastas house. He has come here to distribute freely pure devotional service. So when Advaita heard that, when he said you should bring your wife with all the paraphernalia for worship. So when Advaita heard that he started jumping up and down. The Lord has come down from Vaikuṇṭha. I have brought the lord down from Vaikuṇṭha by my prayers. I have made him give up Vaikuṇṭha and come down. He’s jumping up and down. Then he suddenly stopped and he said that how do I know that this is really my lord? If this is the real lord of my heart.
Then I have a plan. This is how I will confirm it. You tell him that I am not coming and I am hiding in a nearby house, and I am watching and he knows my trick. And if he shows me his own glory, his transcendental form, and if he puts his lord, his feet on my head, then he’s actually the lord of my heart. This will be the. You tell him I am not coming and I am hiding in the house. So in the meantime, his wife was very efficient. She’d already made the hole. Just in case. She made the rt tray out, got everything ready, and they both went off and they were hiding, I believe, in the house of Nandanachari or somewhere there. And Ramaya came back. Before he could say anything, Lord Chaitanya said, why this Advaiti wants to test my ṭhākuratwa.
That means God fullness, my godfulness test that I am God, that I am the Lord. You tell him immediately why he is hiding in that house. Come here, Nara. Nara, come here. That was his nickname, Nara. He started calling it Reit in the meantime, without all the chaitani devotees. They had all been collecting in the meantime without anyone calling them. It was like spontaneous. Everyone said if something was up. And then Advaita came and Lord Shaitanya said that your loud calling, I was sleeping on the yoga nidra, on the seishnag, in the ocean of milk. And your loud shouting, it woke me up from the spiritual sky. Then Daita paid his obeisances and then he looked up and there, Lord Caitanya, he started to produce unlimited effulgence.
And he saw his, he manifested his satchirananda, where he always had Sachir in the form, but it was manifested in his full majesty, so much so that everywhere was simply Brahma Jyoti life. Except for Lord Caitanya and his associates, nothing else was visible. And then Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu took his form as Kṛṣṇa, playing on the flute with the Kastubha moni, the śrīvatsa mark, and other signs of the supreme personality of Godhead bhai Jantaya Mālā flower garlandhouse. And at that time, the different demigods, Brahma with four heads, Shiva with five heads, kartike with six heads. They started, they appeared there and they were offering prayers. Different demigods came on their different heavenly plains, and they were all worshipping Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Ganges came on the Ganges. And especially she was pulled by Makkara fish. The fish that Kṛṣṇa wears on his earring.
And she was also offering prayers to Caitanya Mahabubu. So all the people present, they were saying, these demigods, they were seeing Lord Chetani Mahāprabhu. So he started to jump up and down that because of my prayers, the lord has come and jumping and Hudibo Haribo. The lord has come, the lord has come. The lord is led by Kunta just to come. And then he was jumping up and down. And so then when he paid his obeisances, then Lord Caitanya put his lotus feet on his head. So then Advaita started to bathe. Lord Caitanya lowered his feet with water and Tulsi and then did an aarti. In the meantime, Nityānanda had already ran behind Lord Cheta and he was holding an umbrella over his head. And this isn’t the Mahaprakash aarti, that was later.
But at this time, Sītā Devī, the wife of Deuta, she provided the paraphernalia and he offered worship to Lord Chitanya Mahapu. Everyone was able to understand Lord Caitanya’s son, especially Advaita. Lord Caitanya being actually Kṛṣṇa, that he said that I have come to give the special mercy to all the to distribute freely my love for God. So then he told Advaita that you tell me, what do you want? Nara nara, you take one boon, you must take one. He said, what do I have seen when now you revealed yourself when you have come here. What more do I have to ask? I don’t need anything else. No, no, you must take something. Take one boon. He says, now you completely satisfied me. I have no more desire. So you just take one boon.
So then he said, Lord, my prayer is this, that you deliver the most fallen, those who are hopeless kids, those who are generally not great pundits, not having much opportunity for getting the spiritual mercy, you give them your special mercy, or Chandal, those who are even in the family of dog eaters, and those who are unfortunate, or maybe a simple woman who doesn’t know the philosophy, without any discrimination, then all types of people can get your mercy. And then he said, but those persons who are very highly placed, Brahmanas, Chakravartis, Gangulies, mukherjees, who are puffed up, that they know it all in spiritual life, and they offend you and your devotees, being very proud of their material position, their material fame or their wealth or their beauty, those proud people, dont give them mirrors, let them simply die.
Let anyone who is humble, let them get the mercy. Lord Caitanya, he agrees to this proposal. And so the special way of getting Lord Caitanyas mercy is one should want it actively speaking. It’s there for the asking, it’s there for the wanting. Kṛṣṇa gave his mercy when someone fully surrendered. But Lord Chetan is giving simply when one wants it. Just chanting hare Kṛṣṇa. Chanting hare Kṛṣṇa. Simply asking, give me your mercy. We repeatedly asking, simply expressing our desire. Of course, the holy name is Kṛṣṇa. The holy name is Kṛṣṇa, but the prayer is Kṛṣṇa. Please engage me, o your energy. Energy of Lord Kṛṣṇa. Please engage me in your devotional service. So actually the devotees we give the credit to a deuta Gosai as being his prayers. His prayers were so sincere, he was able to attract the lord to come down.
I was just Prabhupāda. Before he came to America, he visited Santipur, the house of Advaita, Gosan, Sitanaat Malik and that completely in a huge mango orchard, very beautiful. And just by the side of the old Ganges. When Lord Caitanya went, took San Yas and then he jumped in the river. Actually, he was misled by dwight, by Nithyananda, that which way is Vrindavan? Nithyananda said, this way. And because Bo Chenna was in ecstasy, he disappeared. What he said, but he told the wrong way. So he started going down stream. And meanwhile Nethyananda jumped in the river and floated down to Shantipur, told Chetani is coming. In the meantime, Lord Caitanya came down. When he got to Shantipur, he saw the Ganges there. He said, what is the lord of? He just jumped in the river there, Jamuna.
And meantime, Advaita was coming across the river with a boat and picked up Lord Caitanya. And Lord Caitanya saw Adoita. How is this? I am in Jamuna. I mean, I am in Vrindavan. How is the dwight here? Then he started. Then he came from out of his ecstasy. And then he could understand that Niti Nanda had tricked him, that he was in Santipur, not in Vrindavan. And he said, how you said that this was the Jamuna? I said, well, technically he didn’t lie. That was the Jamuna. Because the Jamuna merges or joins with the Ganges from the southern side and the Ganges come from the north. And in the center is the Saraswati. Three rivers join it. Prayak, the Sangam, where the Kuma mela is held every twelve years. So that means that the western bank, when it curves around north south.
Then the western bank is the Jamuna and the eastern bank is the Ganges. So he jumped in the western bank. So that was Jamuna. So there. Then the three crossed the river and Sachi Manta had been brought down to Shantira for Lord Caitanya’s mother. When he saw him shaved up like that, she was crying also. So. But Lord caytanya, he fell down at her lotus feet and said, actually, you have given me this body. I owe everything to you. But I have to serve Lord Kṛṣṇa, whatever you command. So she said that please stay in Jagannath. Don’t go to Vrindavan and stay there. Because then Vrindavan is very far away. We won’t get any information. If you’re in Jagannath Purī, then we will get the information. What’s happening? What you’re doing? So he agreed to that proposal.
She gave her blessings, although she was a little upset to see that he was in such an austere mood. Naturally, the mother likes to always see the sun pretty materially comfortable. But actually, devotees in general, they don’t like to say like if you look in Prabhupāda’s room, he never puts a picture of Jaitanya Mahapu as a sannyāsī. He said that for a devotee, it’s too painful. It’s too painful to see Caitanya Mahāprabhu ingest the role as the sannyāsī. Why should the supreme lord, who is the enjoyer of everything, why should he be performing penances? Why should he be performing austerity? It’s very painful for a devotee to see that. Devotee always wants to see the lord very comfortable and enjoying various facilities. Not in a time in an austere or any type of uncomfortable situation.
So ordinary living entity, he has to perform sannyas and other type of austerity for developing spiritual life. But the supreme lord himself is Atmur Amos Timunaya. He’s the summoned Bonam. He’s always so upset. What does he need to perform any type of austerity for? It’s incongruous, unnecessary and painful for the devotees. Just like the gopīs, they feel great anxiety. Kṛṣṇa is walking in the forest and they feel the soft feet, lotus feet. They must be suffering from the pricks of the stones. The devotees, they also feel that Lord Caitanya is taking this sannyas. This is unnecessary austerity. He should be enjoying in a very colorful way. So we worship Lord Caitanya in his nawadvit. Besh dress, not the sannyas role, because for the devotee, they don’t like to see him in an austere mood. Someone is Allana Swami gone for a next door?
Is he next door? So maybe you could ask him to tell this devotee what he wants done on the ticket and take notes from him. What’s happened? So that’s the. So the three brothers, they sat down in Santipur, Advaita, Eityananda and Lord Caitanya, and together they took prasada. Together they took prasad. There was a time when Nithyananda threw some prushana and a dvaita. They used to argue with each other. Sometimes he threw the prasada and Dvaita started jumping up and down. Mercy, so many things he said. And so that place where the three brothers, Santuk Prashad, the Savite, the deity is the proprietor. So the deity is proprietor of that ashrama, but the worship is done by one devotee. And who’s the got the power of attorney health of the deity to manage. He’s known as Sevite.
So the Sevite wants to give us one acre of land, or one half an acre of land, including that little temple where Lord Caitanya, Nitena Nadwaita sent prasadam for developing international guest house and for building up the temple. Prophet had written him a letter years ago, eight, nine years ago, to build international guest house in Shantipur. But at that time, he wasn’t very confident about IskCOn. But over the years, now, his attitude has changed. And now he says he wants to hear he was undecided. So we can ask Nityānanda and Advaita Gosai for their special mercy, because their mercy is so powerful. You see, by Dwight’s mercy, he brought Chetan imam. Therefore, we go to caitany mama through Advaita, through Nithyananda, begging for their special favor to get the mercy of Lord Jaytani. Jaya, Jaya, sītā, pati, adaita, Gosai, Tobhakripa, Bole, Chaitan, Nanita.
By getting your mercy, we get NithaI Gore’s mercy. And by Lord CaitanyA’s mercy, by Lord Nithananda’s mercy, we get Lord CaitanyA’s mercy. And by Lord CaitanyA’s mercy, we understand what is Raha Kṛṣṇa. So that’s everything. SalAMaN Bono, the spiritual master is the representative of Nithyana. To approach this Nithyananda means ThE Nithyananda’s dear most devotee is the spiritual master. So by the mercy of the spiritual master. One can get also the mercy of Nithyananda. So in this way, the path has been made easy for us to advance in spiritual life. Any questions? It’s back to Ed.
Yes, thank you. I don’t know if I should be asking the question, but in the mad.
Yeah, if you don’t, you should first know.
What I meant was in the Madhya, in the fifth volume, which mentions the conjugal love of Queensland, Dvark and the gopīes of Rendalu.
That’s a very high topic. You want to ask the question.
You should only ask a person of the highest devotional service such a question. And I am asking.
Maybe you shouldn’t ask.
Exactly. Exactly, exactly. That’s what I didn’t know because the script, the shastra said ask a person of the highest knowledge, but it didn’t. The shastra did not state whether a person of the lowest should be told.
Of course you don’t know what your question is, but generally speaking, the Bhagavad Gītā is considered to be the high school course. The Shiman Bhāgavatam is considered to be the graduate course, university and after graduation, the postgraduate course. So if you want to go right up to the postgraduate, of course, our books are for everyone to read. We have no. But it’s very difficult to understand the postgraduate course if one doesn’t have the adequate background in the previous courses. The whole thing is like a juicy fruit. You can bite it anywhere and you will get some juice. In that sense, it’s not that there’s not juice in Gītā. I personally saw shrill probab reading the Bhagavad Gītā so many times. Every time you read it, you will get juice. But the topics that are being dealt with are increasingly more subtle or difficult or confidential topics.
So the subtle difference and the relation and all these things between the queens of Dwarka or the Gopīs, these are very advanced topics which one should. First of all, just like Prabhupāda said, one should read the nine cantos of the Bhāgavatam. Then you go up to the 10th canto. In the 10th canto theres five chapters that deal with the rasalila and with the affairs of Kṛṣṇa and the Gopīs. So in Caitanya Charmy there are also some areas where these pastimes are dealt with, even in a more concise and in a more explained, expanded manner. Even some auxiliary books to the Chetanya chairmeet also give these pastimes. But that is really meant for someone who is already liberated from material life to fully understand.
Do you think that one can still operate effectively and sank itself without knowing the most intimate of pastimes? Or, as you say, having done the postgraduate work, to really be effective in sanctuary?
Well, of course, every devotee knows basically these pastimes. But to actually go deep and, you know, start discussing them and then appreciating them, you know, just like one thing is to know that these pastimes are there and that these are transduced, they’re not material. Every devotee has to know that much and know. But when actually to appreciate these pastimes is a whole other realm. In other words, as the devotee advances, he can discuss different pastimes of Kṛṣṇa. He will not be simply like, just like someone memorizes. Like, when I went to England, just coming over here, I stopped in the Blenheim palace because someone told me it was the versailles of England. It was very nice architecture for building a Miacar project. It would be something good to see. So you had to pay two pounds. It was about $5.
Nowadays it’s a pound 350. They have a guided tour. And actually, they have all these guides who are very. Who. They memorized every painting on the wall. This is a Stockholm. This is Schlermannheimer. This is a Google digger, you know. And this was in 1774. And they have the whole thing. They know which tapestry. This is Lord, Lord Burroughs dog who is in the picture. Because the dog was always in the battle. And so. But notice how the dog is not running with the foreleggest. Because the guy who made the tapestries artist, he was always doing horses. So he had a nonstop, you know, I mean, whole rap. So, like, it’s not like that. We just memorize them historical, like, well, Kṛṣṇa. Here’s Kṛṣṇa. And he did these things.
I mean, but the actual thing is that when a devotee who is at that stage of advancement. Here’s these past, and he’s transferred. He’s transported spiritually, mentally to that realm. And he actually experiences to different degrees, depending on his realization, on his purity, he realizes those pastimes at that time. And so to actually. In other words, he’s actually tasting. So just by hearing, he’s actually experiencing, to the degree of his spiritual advancement, the mellows or the rasas or the taste of those pastimes. Just by hearing it, of course, mentally, one can experience, like he says, a few of these people gave the tour.
But, I mean, you can get some kind of a sentiment or awe or different appreciation of what it was like 100 or 200 or 500 or 800 or a thousand years ago amongst these lords and the kings and queens and all. But, you know, it’s very superficial at most. You know, maybe someone will feel a little nostalgia if it’s his own country or something or feel something, but it’s not the same. You see, this is actually where you are experiencing just by hearing the pasta. You hear about how Kṛṣṇa, how he was so kind to accept Sudha Mavip for his friend that he gave him his own seat. Harukmini, the queen was fanning him. He bathed his feet and Kṛṣṇa had tears in his eyes.
And if a devotee advanced in Kṛṣṇa Khan hears these things, he will also be overwhelmed by the experience of just as if he was right there when the thing was occurring, when the pastime was happening. So to actually hear the pastimes of the Gopīs and Kṛṣṇa and to actually
