The following is a lecture on Gaura-pūrṇimā given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on September 02, 1981 – in Zurich, Switzerland.
Kīrtana. First he offered his respect to Lord Chaitanya and all of the associates of Chaitanya Mahāprabhu through Kīrtana. After glorifying all of their qualities, he begged permission to also glorify the associates of Kṛṣṇa and their transcendental pastimes in Vrindavana.
Then he began Harinam Sankirtan.
Of the Mahamantra, the great mantra. And with this Hari nam kīrtana, sometimes going in a very joyous mood and sometimes going in a deep separation mood. Everyone was just floating in the ocean of treasure, transcendental nectar. And then everyone started to chant and dance with the Sankirtan. Everyone, all those great associates. The people were packed to see that outside the temple, the people were trying to look in. They were climbing on their shoulders, on the heads, on the looking, trying to see. But there were so many people, thousands and thousands of people. But they couldn’t see inside. Only by great endeavor and also have.
The temples for Sukum delight. Suzanne on the clatterton of the shulte in the temple, he nine.
Literally hundreds of thousands of people had gathered to come to this festival.
Mentioned fasamelt on disface.
How many could fit in that little temple? But all the associates, they were there and they were dancing. And the other people, they were hearing the kīrtana and they’re just crying, trying to get a darshan of this.
Darshan, the phone becoming kiran.
You see, the kīrtana, it was actually playing simply on the hearts of all the devotees.
Every madranga beat was simply touching the hearts.
Kṛṣṇa, after all, is the heart of our heart.
Kṛṣṇa is heards on the.
So the naratam, he was playing a very thick separation. Kīrtana, that mood became so heavy that it appeared that when the people were chanting and dancing that they were not dancing in the air, but they were simply moving in some type of nectar.
Ocean of liquidity, Tansten, the shines in anime.
Suddenly they started to feel so intense separation that Kṛṣṇa was so far away that they didn’t have this association that it just became more and more intense in this way. Some were also falling unconscious just in that intense mood. And their tears were flowing just like torrents. Just at that time of the most intense separation, another great miracle happened. I am not able to explain actually the thing properly. I am only giving some idea because it’s nothing humanly possible to explain the things that were going on in keto Dikram because these are beyond human experience and beyond human ability to express these are all transcendental them to pastimes.
Then these transcendence.
So in that time of that intense separation, Lord Catania, he had a special.
Mercy societies, intensive.
Although Lord Caitanya Mahabrabhu had already disappeared, say, some 30, 40 or more years before. And along with all the panchatapta and all these associates like Sanātana, Rūpa, salupa, they’d all already disappeared long before.
Lord Chaitanya Shon, Fashvantenva, Rūpa, Sanatan.
So suddenly, Chetanya, Mahapu, Nithyananda, Ardoita, you.
See, Gadar, Harprabhu, Śrīvas, they suddenly appeared to personlich.
Along with them, there was also all of the Vaishnavas, Ali, Vaishnavas, personal associates from Vrindavan, from Jagannath Purī, from Novodib, they’re all in one place, from Vrindavan.
Purī, Divan Ali and Aynam.
Ot what didn’t even happen when Chaitanya Mahabhu was present. Some of their names are then Sanātana, Goswami, Haridas, Thakur, Ramanandarai, Sikhi, Mahiti, Baninath, and all those devotees. So when they appeared like that, there was a roar. Everyone stood jumping and shouting and falling down and paying their visits. The lord has come. He’s here. Go on with the kīrtana. Go on with the kīrtana, you see? And the kīrtana simply continued. And there, Advaita, he was dancing sometime with Achutananda. His son.
Nithinandi was dancing with Bhiravajrabhatra.
Lord Caitanya, he was dancing with the devotees, all the devotees, they were dancing there with the second and third disciples, and disciples of Caitanya Mahabe. And that kīrtana went on and on and on.
The kīrtana ging, Vaita and Vaita, and Vaita.
And the devotees, they were more than their desires were fulfilled. No one had even that, couldn’t dream that this desire would be fulfilled like that. In this way. Everyone was thrown in ocean of nectar, ocean of jubilation. Then, after practically one day of Brahmade, Lord Chaitan in all of his associates that had previously disappeared, they all disappeared again. And then all those devotees that were present, they all were thrown into a pit of separation. The shout, the cries came out. Everyone fell down and was just beating their head and rolling, that the lord had disappeared, and just everyone rolling on the ground and moaning and chanting, tears flowing just like floods of. She comforted them. Go on. This is all Lord Chetan is inconceivable mercy. Go on and begin the kīrtana again. Go out with the chanting. So like this.
There are so many more pastimes. No one can understand the causeless mercy of Chetanimah. But Kṛṣṇa das Kabiraj, he’s recommended that we should meditate on his mercy. And if you meditate, consider Chetanya Mahāprabhu. Then your consciousness will become filled with wonder. Where is there someone so merciful to his devotees? Where there is someone so kind and so compassionate.
Also? Midnight forest.
Lord Kṛṣṇa showed his braha prakash or his universal form to Arjuna. Here Chetanya Mahabharata. Even after he disappeared, he and all of his associates together, everyone, the whole Vaishnav Jagat he revealed to Śrīnivasa chari and Narutana and all the remaining vaishnavas.
Abhiya Ofambadisi, Chaitanya Mahāprabhu susama parades. Fashion va natamdas tako shinivasa chara janava devī. On al Anzaran Shila prabhupāda would.
Sometimes see Lord Chaitanya Nitinanda dancing in the kirtans of the Ishkan devotion. And sometimes other associates of Chetan would see dancing there. So those who are blessed, they may also get this vision, the eyesight. To see how the lord is even today present, you see off and on in our Sankirtan pastimes. Sometimes when there’s very exceptionally ecstatic Sankirtan being performed by the devotees, you should know that some associate or Chetanya Mahbruhu himself is personally present there. That is why that kīrtana has become so ecstatic by the mercy of the Guru and Goranga. 1 may even also be so fortunate as to see the lord and his associates with a transcendental vision. But we should be eager not to see only the Lord.
But we should be eager that the Lord may see us, that we should act in such a way knowing that the Lord is always watching and that he may be pleased with our activities. Meditate on the mercy of Chaitanya Mahabra, who simply absorb yourself in his service. What else is there?
Meditate. Azo vivati.
Kṛṣṇa. Everyone can say there’s no offense to say. Shikrisha chaitanya. Jai śrī kṛṣṇa. Prabhonity. Damn. Namdeh nabrindaki. Divine grace. Namajari. Gay sami vision. About again the window. You are offenseless and thoroughly honest. Therefore, I wish all good to you. Please tell me of the perpetrator of these mutilations which blackmail the reputation of the sons of Pritha, the reputation of the reign of Maharaj or Ramachandra, and that of kings who followed in the footsteps of Mahārāja Ramachandra, like the pandavas and their descendants are never to be forgotten because in their kingdom offenseless and honest living beings were never in trouble. The bull and the cow are the symbols of the most offenseless living beings because even the stool and urine of these animals are utilized to benefit human society.
The descendants of the sons of Prita, like Maharaj or Parikshit were afraid of losing their reputations. But in the modern days, the leaders are not even afraid of killing such offenseless animals. Herein lies the difference between the reign of those pious kings and the modern states ruled by irresponsible executive heads without.
Knowledge of the codes of goddess bimaharaj. Parikshit on Andre first atten ian roof dor in the halting inside shrek in the stars overhaupter nikht a mālā fort zuruk sol khamlosa tirit Sutton Darin lick the ontasheet swishing the regirum from a Koenigay ontair unfa Antwati hashtat the Oni kentney sets the goddess regiran.
So Maharaj Parikshit is comforting the cow and the bull. Maharaj Parikshit, I don’t know the word comforting. Comforting means reassuring, making them feel at ease. This is the duty of the ruler, is to make the citizens happy. So the bull was being beaten by someone. So the king was very upset. Even if a bull was unhappy, then the king thought that his whole reputation could be destroyed. And nowadays, of course, the government, they’re having their own slaughterhouses for killing all the animals. This is the difference.
This is the ontasheet.
Actually, even Buddhists, they don’t kill those Buddhists who are meat eaters. Nowadays, in modern Buddhism there are some meat eaters. They also don’t kill the cow. They don’t kill the cow, the horse, the buffalo, because they say that these animals are higher on the karma. If they’re going to kill someone, some animal, then they pig or chicken or some lower nature. Although the western countries are so advanced in technology, but they are completely ignorant of the subtle laws of nature. But if one doesn’t know the laws of nature, then one can have no peace. Just like a criminal who is breaking the law, he’s always afraid of being caught. Therefore he has no peace. If someone doesn’t have any peace, how can he ultimately have any real happiness. Bhagavad Gītā says that without peace there’s no question of happiness.
The Bhagavad Gītā is this.
So long as the human beings are breaking the laws of Kṛṣṇa, then they can’t expect to get any happiness. They may get some flickering happiness, but the overall standard will be one of anxiety and unhappiness. You see how young people, they’re very carefree, but they are so full. They don’t think that within a very short time they will also become old. So they use their valuable time up simply in temporary pursuits of sense gratification. And then in this way, using their valuable energy and useless pursuits, it’s very difficult for them to finish their human life successfully. When Śrīla Prabhupda was preaching india, I remember that he gave one lecture in a city called Chaktaha Prabhupāda. Lecture in an chaktah is about 75 km from Calcutta. It takes about 2 hours. Bye. Commuter train to go to Calcutta from there.
And every morning there would be more than a thousand people would go from Choctaw to Calcutta for their office work. So Prabhupāda in a lecture he explained to them the fate of the office.
Gore Prabhupāda in a lecture.
He says, you get up in the morning at 06:00 exactly.
Mom oṁ six were off.
And then quickly take some batheous and then take some biscuit and some tea or some this kind of light breakfast and run off to catch the train. It. It.
(Side B of the Cassette)
By the commuter train. And then they are put into great difficulty. Basically, everyone had just packed in like sardine fish into a can holding onto the ceiling handles. Then they go. And when they reach the train station, then from there they have to go.
By the public tram car or bush.
There. If you see that people actually hang outside the door, there’s so many people that they pack up inside and they’re still hanging outside the side of the bus. In this way, one more hour is spent. Finally. Then they reach their work. 10:00. From ten to twelve they do some office work. Then at twelve to 1230 they have the tea break. Then again they take some fast food. Then at from 1230 until 04:00 they go back to work. Then from 04:00 again, they fight in the bus and somehow get to the train station for 1 hour, then for 2 hours again on the train. Then they come home, take their dinner, and they see their kids. Then they go to sleep. Sometimes they sleep all night, sometimes they have sex. Then they get up in the morning and again go to work.
The prophet said that this human life is not meant to work. Just like an ass or a beast of burden, this type of work, where is there any scope for spiritual life? This may be the situation in Calcutta, but the similar situation is there all over the world. For the office goers.
Is of the Gansengweld.
If they have a faster train or a better seat than they think. Now this is progress, but actually their consciousness is not any improved. Even if they can work under better condition, they don’t use the additional time to develop their God consciousness. Prabhupāda explained that this is just the Grihamedi life. One day were walking through the fields in Māyāpur, and there we saw that the bullocks, they were processing the. The grains. There was a round, what they call Kamar, that’s a round area which is flattened out for the bulls to walk on. And they break up. They separate the dhal from the plant by their feet. In the center there’s one stick and the two are four bullocks. They’re tied to that stick and they go round and around in a circle. Commented that there’s bulls. They think that they’re going a long way.
They think that maybe they’re walking, you see, from Frankfurt to London, you see, because they are not very quick, but actually they are just going in a circle and they try to eat as much of the dal as they can. But of course, the doll has already fallen underground. They just eat the plant so, Śrīla prabhupāda, this is the Grehamedi life. The technical word for that stick, in Sanskrit is called the meidandha. Me means woman. Danda means stick, the woman stick, just like the bullock, the man, he’s tighten with attachment to the woman, and he goes around and around. He thinks he’s going very far and doing many things, but actually the center of all his activities is simply the sense gratification with his wife.
The syndrome.
He may go all over the world doing business, but he comes home and brings the money. Actually, his consciousness is not expanding. So this Kṛṣṇa conscious movement is altogether of a different nature. The Kansas movement is that everyone, whether single and free or whether bound up in family life, everyone is developing their spiritual consciousness. Instead of making the meidanda or the woman as the center, Kṛṣṇa as the center. Even if once they married couple, they also put Kṛṣṇa in the center, they don’t make sense gratification in the center. This is our tendency. We always want to put sense gratification as a center. Then we can go through so many difficulties, we can do so many things and things that it’s not so bad, because at the end we think that I am going to get this sense gratification.
People are risking their lives just for a little gold. Look at the soldiers in the army, because they’re getting some pay. Therefore, they go out and fight professional soldiers, but all they’re getting is some money. But they’re risking their life for that money, because with that money, they can buy sense gratification. Sense gratification is so strong in this material world, so we should take advantage of this human life to develop. Actually, the higher taste. This was ordinarily very difficult to obtain. There was a Buddha who went and sat under the tree and meditated six years, and he was able to achieve some realization. Even then, his realization was not spiritual, but it was simply the unmanifested material realization. Other people, they would do Tapasya for thousands and hundreds of years in previous ages, when their lifespan was longer, just to achieve some spiritual realization.
Andrew mentioned.
But by the mercy of Chetanya Mahāprabhu, in a very short time, one can get the perfection of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. We have discussed in the past couple of days some of the transcendental qualities of Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Today, in this loka, we hear how Maharaj Predikshit, being representative of Kṛṣṇa, he is protecting even the cows and the bulls and the animals in his kingdom.
Here in DiesEloka, Amigilessen.
What to speak of how Kṛṣṇa protects his own devotees. Kṛṣṇa protects his devotees always. So one should simply decide whether he wants to be loose and unprotected or whether he wants to be under the shelter of Kṛṣṇa and transcendentally happy. If one makes the firm commitment to take the mercy of Caitanya Mahāprabhu and the shelter of Guru and Gaurāṅga very quickly, he can achieve complete success.
Vishlos first the Bamiasikai Mahāprabhu from Guru Guranga.
Guru and Guranga, the spiritual master and Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. They are the ocean of mercy. So here in this temple, I see the devotees are very intelligent here in.
This temple, and enthusiastic.
So if they just put their intelligence and their enthusiasm to the point of satisfying Lord Caitanya Mahapabu and Nithananda, then there will be very quick success. And one way to attract the special mercy of Caitanya Mahāprabhu is by preaching his message to the fallen souls. Chaise Kṛṣṇa, Chaitanya Prabhunityananda Śrīvasari Gorbakta Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa hare Hare hare Ram Ram Ram Hare hare. So some shortage of time today. One question, maybe.
The argument you gave about the communists going from this town to Kolkata for kamis explained, it’s always difficult. Those have to work some or other. So how can we explain that they can maintain family for lectures?
The point is that these karmies, first thing they should understand is that this work that they’re doing is it’s not happiness. That’s not the goal of life. If they have to work like that so hard to maintain their family, you see, they shouldn’t think that’s the goal of life. They should understand that just by their foolishness, they’re working the whole day. And actually the happiness that they enjoy is only a few minutes in the day. Whatever sense gratification they get that they think is happiness, they will go for two weeks vacation and then they will have a very intense sense gratification. Then they will go for the whole year in work. Even the devotees work like that. But the whole time, while they’re in the train, while they’re doing all these things, then they would always still be chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa.
They would be getting their happiness from Kṛṣṇa consciousness. You see, they don’t lose anything, but actually they gain their eternal life. Well, the one person’s consciousness is very dull and very densely situated. The other person’s consciousness, just like the.
Brilliant sun, the spivous sign this is a stump cynic. When the spivous and the animal, and.
Even then the devotee, he sees that if it’s not necessary to work so hard, then there’s no, you see, then some people, they’re holding two jobs even just to get more money. The devotee whatever he needs to keep his body and soul together, he works that much for him and his family. The rest time he uses in Kṛṣṇa.
Consciousness Manila on sale.
Nowadays people complain about unemployment problem. That’s because everybody, they want so much employment because they have to maintain such a high standard of sense gratification. Śrīla PRABHuPda described that they used to simply work three months a year. The rest of the time they devote for God consciousness.
Shila Prabha declared monate in Yadu Abaiden from Kṛṣṇa.
So they should change their perspective. Then they will be happy.
