The following is a lecture given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on August 19, 1981 – in Kathmandu, Nepal. The lecture begins with a reading from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.5.48.
Ayakta Shabihada Tantam Nasuk Namastad pretty hard to be take to award unto yours. Translation by his divine grace Śrī Mat esi Bhaktivedanta Swami o original person, we are therefore but yours only although we are your creatures, we are born one after another under the influence of the three modes of nature, and for this reason we are separated in action. Therefore, after the creation, we could not act concertedly for your transcendental pleasure. Translation repetition O original person, we are therefore but yours only. Although we are your creatures, we are born one after another under the influence of the three modes of nature, and for this reason we are separated in action. Therefore, after the creation, we could not act concertedly for your transcendental pleasure.
Purboyed by his divine grace, the cosmic creation is working under the influence of the three modes of the external potency of the Lord. Different creatures are also under the same influence and therefore they cannot act concertedly in satisfying the Lord. Because of this diverse activity, there cannot be any harmony in the material world. The best policy, therefore, is to act for the sake of the Lord that will bring about the desired harmony.
Thus.
End the purport of his divine grace to the prabhupāda. O original person, we are therefore but yours only. Although we are your creatures, we are born one after another under the influence of the three modes of nature, and for this reason we are separated in action. Therefore, after the creation, we could not act concertedly for your transcendental pleasure. Omaghanta Gandham dina to smile. Here the controlling deities are confessing their inability, their failure since their birth to have perfectly and harmoniously acted for the pleasure of Kṛṣṇa, of the Lord, because they are all subject to the three modes of material nature. Therefore, individual damigat had different influences upon him. However, Śrīla Prabhupāda has given here the clue how this influence of material nature can be overcome.
If we understand that we are not this body, that we are pure spirit, soul, we are the part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa, our real self interest is to serve Kṛṣṇa. And thus, if we do everything considering, will this be pleasing to Kṛṣṇa, doing it for Kṛṣṇa under the instructions of the spiritual master, then in that case we’re guaranteed to satisfy Kṛṣṇa, we’re guaranteed to overcome the miseries. How much more do we have to see of birth, death, old age and disease? Dosha, Dukkha, Dosha Nudarshanam. Haven’t we seen enough of all these miseries to understand that this material world is not the place to achieve any kind of ultimate happiness. It is simply the illusion of the three modes that create the type of euphoria whereby we think that if we simply satisfy our senses, we will be happy.
And where is the person who simply by satisfying his senses, has been able to be and maintain that happiness? It cannot because by very definition, these senses are always either hankering, satisfied or lamenting. Always. Even if you eat up to your nostrils right, sooner or later you get hungry again. And no matter what you obtain in this material world, sooner or later you will lose it. So therefore, by definition, there cannot be permanent happiness, enduring happiness or ultimately satisfying happiness in this material world because of the existence of so many defects. When I ask people, would they like to accept a house where any moment that has all the modern facilities and amenities, but the condition is any moment I can come and shoot them. Always the people laugh and say, ha ha, we don’t want that house.
But then you put the question forward to them that where is it difference in your position now, the very body that you have taken residence in at any moment can be taken away from you. In India, Nepal, the average lifespan is 70. Now. What is it in the west? 60 70? I don’t know Nepal, but I know India. India, for those who take insurance policies is 70. What’s it may palm? That’s just it. You have to take the average after they get beyond a certain age. If you just take the babies that are born die after one month, it gives a false impression. And once you make it to 15, then what’s your expectancy before 15? They drop like flies. So take it that we dont have so many years. So how can anyone be completely satisfied in such a precarious situation?
So of course, the illusion is so strong that no one thinks about these things, nor can, even if they’re faced with them. The proposition of sense gratification is so vivid that when it comes before us, we succumb, losing all intelligence due to lust, insatiable lust. So the only process is that we have to purify our consciousness. We have to purify our consciousness. We have to purify our desires. If our desires are gradually purified, whereby at least we practice to act in a way which is pleasing to Kṛṣṇa, then our consciousness becomes purified, our mind becomes purified, our senses become purified. We are able to act on transcendental platforms. Nikolasud Ivan Mukta Sujit someone who is engaging his words, thoughts, words and deeds in the service of Kṛṣṇa, in the service of Śrī Hari, he is guaranteed.
He’s already considered to be on the liberated platform, Jeevan Mukta, by simply engaging thought word and deepen and the service of Hadi without any break, the one is already liberated. What is meaning of liberation? To be free from miseries, to have achieved transcendental bliss, that is liberation. So when one is situated in that devotional platform, he’s already free from misery, he’s already experiencing transcendental bliss. That means he’s already liberated, then he has concern is to remain in that condition. If one practices remaining in the condition long enough, then finally, by the lord’s mercy, he’s permanently situated in that position. Permanently, just like first of all, one’s riding on his bicycle with the trainer wheels, and after riding for long enough, when you take off the trainer wheels, then he’s still going.
So in the beginning we’re practicing, but someone can say, well, he’s got 1ft still in the material world. There’s still some connection, apparently externally with material worlds, but actually by the Lord’s mercy, at one point, that connection is no longer there. One is actually completely liberated. But even before then, one is acting and feeling and thinking as a liberated person. This is the process already. Act as if one is liberated. Act on a liberated platform and one is liberated as long as one acting in that way. Just like when you plug in an appliance into the electricity, as long as you keep it plugged in, it moves.
But if you have a loose connection and sometimes you plug it in and sometimes the connection is short and then it goes off, then finally, when you get just completely plugged in tight with the connection, it goes on. So it’s like that. Now we are having a loose connection due to our own material habits, desire, so many things. We plug in, but it’s just loose. Sometimes the wires, you see, we jiggle due to so many other ideas and so many other distractions, so that wires come out for a second, then before.
We know it, the machine stopped, our.
Spiritual progress has been stopped and again we push it back in and again it’s finally, we actually just hook it.
Up permanently to Kṛṣṇa.
Then we’re in completely permanently liberated status. So demigods, they can understand the mother Durga, she’s manifesting through her three modes and she’s controlling. So if we want to become the transcendental platform, that means we have to act above the three modes. Three modes of material nature are influencing everyone when they’re influencing the great demigods they’re influencing everyone. Those who are in the mode of passion and ignorance, they’re generally atheists or otherwise. If they believe in Kṛṣṇa or God, rather if they believe in God, then they pray to some form of God as order supplier. Give us our daily bread, give us this, give us that. Danam deya Pakistan dea siyam dea give us wealth, give us money, give us happiness, give us bliss, whatever. They go on praying for so many things.
Give us a good wife, give us a good fame, give us a good name, give us a good house. In South America, Bolivia, they have one local deity, I forget the name, echinacea or something. You will see statues around the city of La Paz and around his neck he’s got shovels, lorries, refrigerators, buses, tvs, bicycles, every imaginable thing in miniature, like all hanging around his neck. One day a year, people walk for miles on their knees and they go to him and then they pray. There’s some process where you pray to him that they do some kind of tapasya, that you give me one lorry this year, you give me one refrigerator, give me one bicycle with all the things they want. They have it written down and they hook it onto them or something.
And then during the year they wait for the delivery to come. So this idea is very much in the mode of ignorance and passion. So whether it’s an imagined or a minor demigod, or whether it’s a major demigod or whether it’s a supreme personality of Godhead, those who are in passionate ignorance, they either don’t believe in God at all, or if they believe any kind of deity that are only wanting their own personal material things to be fulfilled, they don’t think that every year they’re going back, because whatever they had the previous year, it’s already now there’s so many new things that came up, so they give in their new shopping list. So this way it’s an unending process.
Desires are never satisfied.
There’s never a point. Now ahead enough. Where is that point? Has there any been anyone? Only people who come to the conclusion are those people who are in the mode of goodness. They have some knowledge, Ganum. So generally those who are in the mode of goodness, they don’t want to increase their material problems, their material responsibilities, more than necessary, unnecessarily. Why take on so much burden? But what they generally do is they are focused on impersonal aspect of truth. They want to merge, they want to become one with the Lord. So this is the three gunas. But the devotees, they’re above the three gunas. They’re above these three modes of material nature.
They’re on the transcendental platform.
They don’t want atheism or materialistic religion or spiritual suicide. What they want is to become completely built with the transcendental realization and love of Kṛṣṇa. They want his loving service. So their position is unique. They have nothing to do with this material world.
They have nothing to do with the.
Three goons of material nature. The three modes of material nature. Goodness, passion or ignorance. Kama Raja sattva. They have nothing to do with these three modes.
They are transcendentally situated.
So what is the secret? The demigods are admitting we are always.
Being obstructed because each of them is.
Trying to keep some type of faith to the Lord at the same time satisfy his material desires. Even the great demigods have got so many material desires. That’s why they are in this material world.
They’re also subject to the female.
Unless one completely focuses that I will not act for my own sense gratification. Whatever I do will be sanctioned by Guru will be to please Kṛṣṇa, even a Eid alit prasad. If I sleep to rest.
My body, to serve Kṛṣṇa.
If I have children to raise them, to become God conscious. Everything that one does simply to please Kṛṣṇa.
If one takes that, then he is automatically transcendental.
There’s no question of swing mode. People talk about how harmony, about world brotherhood, universal brotherhood. This is the only way to accept.
The universal father, the Jagatnath.
That is the system for achieving real universal brotherhood.
Real peace in this world.
The peace formula, Prabhupāda, so many times Lakshadam is peace formula.
Except who is the proprietor?
Don’t falsely say, this is your country.
This is your family, this is your body.
You are simply the rent.
The tenant, actual proprietor is Kṛṣṇa. Every activity, every penance, everything is ultimately he’s the only enjoyer.
He’s the lord of all the universe, the Saravaloka Maheshvanam.
Who knows that Gyatwa mam Shanting. Who knows that Kṛṣṇa is a well wished, a friend of everyone.
And.
That he’s in this transcendental position.
He’s automatically achieved peace.
All the troubles in the world today.
Are not because of Kṛṣṇa.
They’re because we are forgetting Kṛṣṇa.
We are throwing away Kṛṣṇa.
We are simply trying to become little individual controllers. Little individual IswaR. And we are worshipping other, bigger ishwars to enhance our own ISwar position.
There’s no question the tape recorder. There’s no question of any service attitude, any service rendered is in exchange for due consideration. Any dharma, any pūjā, all with so many desires, what they want in exchange. Therefore, Chetanya Mahbur said, the devotion of Kṛṣṇa is free from desire, free from ulterior motives. Therefore he’s peaceful. Mukti, bhukti, Siddhi, kami, sakriya, shanta. And those who are desiring material happiness, liberation or mystic powers, they’re all filled with different types of anxieties and lack of peace. So if someone sees that in my life I am experiencing some type of lack.
Of peace, some type of disturbance, you can definitely trace it back directly to material desire. There’s no one in Vaikuṇṭha who is complaining that there’s any lack of peace in his life, that there’s any lack of satisfaction. Everyone is satisfied because everyone is serving the Lord. This concept of dissatisfaction, this concept of apunatha, incompleteness, loneliness, boredom, everything that we detest is simply a concept of this.
Material world.
Where people are trying to imitate being Kṛṣṇa, when their real position is to love Kṛṣṇa and to serve.
Kṛṣṇa and be always satisfied in Kṛṣṇa’s loving reciprocation of pastimes. So someone.
Understands this. He understands that different people are acting.
In different ways because they’re under the moats.
So how to correct that? Prabhupāda, when he was in the Jaladud praying off american shore, how there he is, seeing in front of him a country of rajastic and kamastic people, passionate.
And ignorant people, how they can be awakened. He knew that simply by hearing Bhāgavatam.
Simply by hearing chanting of hare Kṛṣṇa, by engaging themselves somehow or another Jainateena, Prakareena, Kṛṣṇa, mana, nivosate.
By any means.
Simply engage the people in devotional practices. If you want people to become Kṛṣṇa conscious, it’s not at all difficult. Simply engage their senses in devotional service. Engage their mind in devotional service. If they stay in that engaged position.
Long enough, all their contaminations will be.
Finished and they will be automatically on the transcendental platform. As long as when the person is.
Seeing himself that I am, you see, of this designation, I am a Brāhmaṇa, I am a Śūdra, I am an Indian, I am a Mexican, I am a Chinese, I am american, I am a Russian, I am a cat, I am a.
Dog, I am a young, I am old, I am thin, I am fat. I am beautiful, I am ugly.
All the different upadis, that means he’s.
Body conscious, and body consciousness means that it’s very difficult for him to practice Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Kṛṣṇa consciousness means above body consciousness, sarvapar muktantatparatena nirmalam rishikena rishikesh bhakti uttay. So by engaging the people’s senses in Kṛṣṇa consciousness and continually reminding them that they’re not this body, were born, now you will be born in Nepal and we’re born in UK, but in our next birth, in our previous birth, what is our designation? That’s something else. So we shouldn’t be attached to our present position, we should try to realize our permanent position, we should try to give this permanent realization to the other people.
So the simple process, engage the people, taking prasadam, chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, hearing their philosophy, the more that we can engage the people, if we’re thinking that we should be making more devotees, the very simple secret is engage their mind, their words and their deeds in Kṛṣṇa consciousness more then automatically you will get more devotees. The more that people hear about Kṛṣṇa, think about Kṛṣṇa, which can be done through reading Prabhupāda’s transcendental books and literature, hearing the lectures and big festivals and other programs, the more that one speaks and glorifies and chants, get the people to chant, get them to glorify Kṛṣṇa, get them to act as instruments, telling people about the importance of this Kṛṣṇa conscious philosophy, Bhagavad Gītā and Bhagavad dharma. And the more that people engage their actual bodies in Kṛṣṇa service, doing some practical service, then they become purified.
So our success will depend on how much we are able to engage people in a broad scale in thinking, speaking.
And doing Kṛṣṇa service, especially those services.
Connecting with hearing and chanting, with Sankirtan and preaching, those will be the most purifying, because that is the dharma recommended process for this age. If we engage hundreds and thousands of people in such service, then so many.
People will come forward.
And if we are not engaging anyone, then we can’t expect that anyone will become purified. Prabhupāda first fed the people with Prasadam up to their nose, fed the people with Hari Kotha completely to the top of their mind. And he also had so many festivals, chanting and other different programs. The more that there are these type of programs, the more that one’s consciousness, words and body is engaged in Kṛṣṇa service, automatically the consciousness becomes purified. Some people have more mental capacity, some people may have more physical capacity, some people may have more vocal capacity. Let them engage in whatever their capacity may be. And if that capacity is properly engaged under the guidance of qualified brahmanas people who are already Brāhmaṇa Vaishnavas on the transcendental platform, then definitely they will achieve the goal of life. Definitely they will achieve it.
So this is a very big responsibility. And this is a very big opportunity. Because it is a responsibility that when we get knowledge, we should give it to others. And it’s an opportunity that as we’re giving out whatever we received, we’re acting as an instrument for Kṛṣṇa. That it gives us his mercy. That empowers us. That empowers us to carry out his transcendental work. I mentioned last night, there’s unlimited potential in Kṛṣṇa. He’s got unlimited power, unlimited potency. He’s the Saravasha, the all powerful. Similarly so, therefore, as we act as his instrument, we get unlimited potency. Certainly, someone must have experienced that while chanting very loud, while leading a third time, or while preaching very enthusiastically that one is feeling more enlivened than when one was sleeping or when one was just sitting down or doing some other type of activity.
Because one, at that moment, is acting as a conductor. You see, just like when the wire is passing the electricity, the wire becomes very activated. If you touch the wire at any point, you will get a shock. So that moment, you see, we’re acting as a biomedium, we become activated. We may or may not even know exactly what we are saying fully. Sometimes Kṛṣṇa may speak to us. And that message is actually intended for different people who are listening. And they may understand it in a particular way, even different than the speaker may understand. One thing may be understood by different people in different ways. And each of those ways are correct in the practical application. Just like Lord Shiva, he told Sukhadeva that, let’s see.
I know the meaning.
Or Shiva was telling someone.
He didn’t tell.
Suhita was telling someone that I know the meaning of hgwat. Asuka knows the meaning in Bhagavad. But whether bias Dev knows or not, I don’t know bias Dev. He’s acting as the instrument. The Shaktabesh avatar Kṛṣṇa is simply putting down all the truth right from Kṛṣṇa. Whether even he can go to the depth of all the things that he said or not.
You see.
But somehow or another, by the mercy of Kṛṣṇa, Shiva, he understood the meaning of bhagavat and sugarev. He also understood. So this is the thing is, we should learn to act as instruments of Kṛṣṇa. If we don’t, then shiguna mai. Then, like these demigods say that they’re forced to act as instruments of the three modes. And when you’re acting as instruments of the three modes in their different permutations, there are three modes. When they combine together, it becomes nine. And then nine into nine other combinations becomes 81. And then when you take 81, it becomes thousands and hundreds and thousands. So you get so many complex permutations of the three modes.
Just like mixing different colors from the primary colors, we are getting so many variations of the colors in this world from just the three primary colors in the television screen, they’re only using three colors. And from that you’re seeing so many colors. Artist, he can take three colors and by mixing he can produce so many colors. So in the same way, from these three modes, blue, red and yellow are the significant, are the colors that are signifying the three modes. From these three modes, you’re getting so many different type of situations. So by mode of material nature, how one can get harmony, only harmony if we transcend. And every person is hooking up, no matter what or what point of view he may be at that material position. If they’re all connected with Kṛṣṇa, they’re all in harmony. Hare Kṛṣṇa. Hare Kṛṣṇa.
Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa.
Hari. Hari. Hari. Ram. Hariram. Ram. Ram. Any questions? Yes. Just like Kṛṣṇa takes responsibility, Bhakti Vinodakur, in the Namhat manifesto, the Godam Kaupatvi, he said that as long as you’re acting on behalf and authorized by Nitin and the Prabhu, you’re under his protection. But if you do something which he says, don’t do this and you do it anyway. Even though you may be officially devotee, but then he’s not responsible, you have to say, you have to take the karma for that. You have to suffer for that. When you’re acting, Kṛṣṇa, he may say to Arjuna, you fight. And he killed so many people, he didn’t take one karma for that because he was doing it for Kṛṣṇa. But then after the battlefield, if he thought, well, let me just go and do this thing, then he will be responsible.
It’s not that someone may be a government officer. He has the right. He can take his pistol and he can shoot that right. He can shoot the thieves. But if he shoots his brother in law, then he will have to be arrested. Even if the police chief.
He may.
Be official police, but he’s not acting as police. When he shot his brother in law, because he was angry at him, eternally liberated and eternally conditioned until we are eternally liberated, we are eternally conditioned. An eternally conditioned soul can also be devoted, Kṛṣṇa. And as long as he’s acting as a liberated soul, he’s as good as a liberated soul. But by definition he’s an itya bandha. That means I that he has to purposely act according to the instruction of higher authorities as a liberated. So then he can get the same benefit as if he was a liberated soul. But he shouldn’t think that I am already liberated. So therefore, no matter what I do, it’s all right. Because as soon as he acts unauthorizedly, he will again be under the clutches of Māyā. He will be responsible.
Those who are actually nithya muqta, they cannot act in a way that’s not in harmony. That’s why they’re called nithya mukta. Eternally liver, they’re always, their consciousness has been finally, you can say, just linked with Kṛṣṇa. They cannot see any independent existence apart from Kṛṣṇa. But our, we’re seeing Kṛṣṇa, we’re seeing Māyā, that’s why we’re Nitji bhadda. But if we act, we see Kṛṣṇa. All right, some people, they don’t see Kṛṣṇa. They are hopeless conditions. We are such that we can see Kṛṣṇa, we can see Māyā. Therefore, if we act in connection with Kṛṣṇa, then we are as good as liberated. But in spite of seeing Kṛṣṇa, if we act in Māyā, then who is responsible? Kṛṣṇa. When we can pray, nowhere does it say that Kṛṣṇa never told Arjuna that you are devotee. You don’t matter if you fight or not fight.
You can do whatever you like. That’s Kṛṣṇa’s position. He’s fatal. He can do whatever he likes no matter what he does, because he’s completely beyond the mood. And also I can live with my nature for the pleasure of Kṛṣṇa. But we are, you see, we’re in the prison house and we are coming out of prison House by willingly proposing to take shelter of yoga Māyā or by being by hook and Bhaiku engaged in the activities of Kṛṣṇa consciousness by Sambh Brāhmaṇa, guru. Even we don’t know what we’re doing or why we’re doing everything. But we’re doing it by mercy of Guru somehow. But then if we simply go against it, then we think, oh, I am a devotee. How is it I have fallen under the.
Most.
Walking on the razor’s edge. You’re walking on a tightrope. You see, there’s a big cliff. So we have to get across that deep cavern so that road is there, but we have to walk straight across the road. If we think that we’re in the middle of the cavern, we’re on that narrow tide rope, and then we already think, well, I am almost there. I can just now I can look around and take a view. Next thing you will know, we will be following the kid AgAin. We have to be conscious until we get to the other. Once you’re on the other side, then we can look back and say, oh, how foolish I was to have been in Māyā. The demigods that I mentioned here, the controllers of the hairs and the body and this and that. She’s Abda Shakti.
She’s the most powerful, only one in a material world more powerful than her Ishiba. She’s supreme Shakti, and he’s the supreme powerful in this material world.
Again, different kinds of worship. They worship demigods, and she is. Well, there are different types of worship of LorD SHIvA.
Just like there are.
Different types of worship of ShAKTI. Lord Shiva is always surrounded by so many ghosts and spirits. So some people, they just make up some type of worship and ignorance for worshipping also Lord Sheba. But actually, their worship is more connected with the ghosts and spirits. Just like it says that when one offers the meat to Kali, actually, Kali, she doesn’t eat meat. She only eats what her husband eats. And Shiva is a vegetarian. He only takes prashad. So actually what she does is she feeds all the meat that’s offered to her, to the ghosts and the people. They’re getting actually ghost prashad. They’re not getting Kali or Moira prashada. They’re getting ghost prashant. But because vedas have given a system, so they’re not. They may not be suffering.
And if they follow all the system correctly, according to vedic, right, they may not be getting any sinful reaction, but neither they’re getting purified. It’s just some facility is there. Actually, their consciousness is being kept in ignorance because they’re not getting divine prasad. So Lord Shiva, he also gives shelter to the ghosts and the spirits, to the rakshas and the yakshas. He also is worshipped by those who want to merge into the impersonal Brahman Koivalia. They also worship Lord Shiva to get that type of liberation, which is considered as the type of tapasya that they perform to achieve that knowledge of Brahman is considered in the mode of goodness. So Lord Shiva, because he’s the lord of the material world, because he’s the master of the tamagun, also because he’s a master of, because he’s actually above the jivas. Therefore, his vision is just.
He can see the material world and he can see the spiritual world.
He has the vision of both.
So therefore, his position is such that he can help people to get up to the type of spiritual understanding as well as he can satisfy everyone’s material desiree. So therefore, he’s a unique personality. And that type of apparent contradiction could be there. In terms of worshiping certain demigods, there are definitely very strict rules and regulations.
To worship Durga.
There are many rules and regulations. One doesn’t offer non vegetarian food to Durga. One has to do fasting and so many different things. But the desires, of course, are all material. But the actual practice, in many cases may be in the mode of goodness, but the desires may be other motivated. So certain demigods.
The worship is more.
In the mode of goodness.
Some is more passion, some is more ignorant.
Ghost and spirit, not really any higher understanding. Someone may approach Lord Shiva even in the mode of ignorance. But because he’s so exalted, they become purified. Just like that one rakshasa was cutting off parts of his body and throwing it in the fire, the meat, to satisfy lord Shiva. That’s a completely nervous ignorance. At the same time, the Bishnu swami also received the Vaishnav initiation from Lord Shiva. It’s just like someone’s in a king. People may approach the king for various things, for killing dacoits or for health, welfare, all these. Someone may also approach the king to inaugurate opening of a temple, which is also his duty as the religious head. So that type of situation may be there that he’s inaugurating some hospital, and he’s also inaugurating a crematorium. And he’s also inaugurating at temple.
So because Lord Shiva is in that Isfar position, therefore, he has these actually to take. Ultimately, what is his realization? He may do to the maintenance of certain responsibilities of management. He may do different things, but to his actual ultimate realization. We always judge a person by what is his ultimate attainment. Just like if the king of Orissa goes and sweeps before the deity of Jagannath. If someone thinks that he’s a sweeper, then he will be a fool. You judge what is his actual achievement. He’s understood he’s servant of Jagannath. So he’s sweeping in front of Jagannath. But actually he’s a great king. He’s a great scholar.
So sometimes a learned man.
He may be doing something, but he has to be judged by his ultimate realization. So I said, don’t see your mother. That one time she was a naked girl. She see her that she’s your mother. Everyone has certain common denominators. Even there’s similarities between Kṛṣṇa and Jīva. You see, the difference is in the quantity of the quality and in the extent of other qualities which neutralize any type of deteriorating effect.
(Side B of the Cassette)
His fault that both the Tamaguna and the Sattvuna are approaching him. It’s the intention of the worshipper that will make the difference because simultaneously he’s in charge of both the material world and tamagoon that situation isn’t it?
But on the other.
They are most dear to me in this world. It’s not the exact quote, they are the most dear to me in this world. Uttamarakari means he’s out of the world. Uttamarakari means he has no connection with this world. He’s already inside of Kṛṣṇa’s eternal pastimes. That’s why the question of he cannot preach in that because he can’t see anything separate from Kṛṣṇa. Who to preach to. To preach you have to see someone who is not connected with Kṛṣṇa and someone who is connected with Kṛṣṇa. You try to get those who are not connected to be connected. Uttamarakari by definition means that he doesn’t say anything not connected with Kṛṣṇa. He no longer sees Māyā in Kṛṣṇa, he only sees Kṛṣṇa and everything in relation to Kṛṣṇa.
So sometimes the Uttamadekari also comes down the Madhyamadakari vision because it’s a very dear process to Kṛṣṇa in the spiritual sky. There is no duality. There’s unity and diversity, but there’s no duality in the material world. There’s duality when someone is Uttamarikaride, he no longer sees the duality. So there’s no question of he’s already on the absolute platform. So the question of more dear or less dear doesn’t even, because he’s already in the actual sense he’s part of Kṛṣṇa. Where is the question of dear or less? He’s completely connected with Kṛṣṇa. He’s in complete union with Kṛṣṇa, although he’s maintaining his diverse identity. But in the material world there are Viveen Angstos. The separated particles are adverse to Kṛṣṇa and some of them are working in harmony with Kṛṣṇa. Those who are preaching his message, they are the most dear.
Even that Uttamadhikari sometimes come down to the material world and preach that also gives invocation. This is a very due process to Lord Kṛṣṇa that he wants the conditioned souls to be delivered.
Yesterday evening we would think that sometime ago. Sometimes we see that air Christmas and then.
Well, if one is serving to the best of his ability, it doesn’t happen. Then take it that Kṛṣṇa has some other plan. No one has a view of the full picture except Kṛṣṇa. Just like we wanted to get that one property, but now we’re getting another, bigger property in a more central place. That place was a very congested place downtown. Whole program would have been different. Now it would be another what Kṛṣṇa’s plan is as a result of that, then there was a the focus was put on Bombay. Now we have the big center in Bombay. If you had got that land, there may not have been a Bombay. We would have had a big project in Calcutta. But that project wouldn’t be as big as the project we’re going to have in Calcutta.
But it would have been big enough to delay other projects like that. Kṛṣṇa, ultimately, he has the view what he wants to be done. When Prabhupāda wanted to go to Māyāpur, November 77, they sent out three mercedes air conditioned cars from the tourist department in Delhi. And all of them broke down halfway to Vrindavan. The prophet missed the flight, and he stayed in Vrindavan. And from there he went back to Kṛṣṇa, he said. And when heard that they all broke down, he said, all right, never mind. We will make a plan. If that is within Ka’s plan, then it will go. If it’s not within his plan, it won’t go only if we’re acting in some motivated way for some material purpose, not as an instrument of Khan.
In that case, if there is some failure, then we can think that due to my central desire, if we are acting for breaking regular principles, for material profit motive, for political reasons, for attaining some pratista, some position, some ambition like that, if we’re simply acting to please Kṛṣṇa, spiritual master, even we may not be very perfect. We don’t succeed. We can understand that it wasn’t Kṛṣṇa’s eyes. If we have other motives, then of course we have to always work at purifying those motives.
