vācaspatira vākye lokera pratyayābhāva—
yata mate vācaspati kahena lokere
pratīta kāhāro nāhi janmaye antare

Jayapatākā Swami: In whatever way Vidyā-vācaspati tried to explain, the people did not have trust in his words.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.355

‘lokera gahana dekhi’ āchena virale’
ei jñāne sabāi āchena kutūhale

Jayapatākā Swami: In their loving ecstasy the people knew that Lord Caitanya had gone to a secluded place away from the crowds.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.356

kāhārao kāhārao birale vācaspatike prabhu-pradarśanārtha anurodha—
keha keha sādhe vācaspatire virale
“āmāre dekhāo āmi kevala ekale”

Jayapatākā Swami: Some of them privately requested Vidyā-vācaspati, “I am alone. Please let me see Lord Caitanya.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.357

sarva-loka dhare vācaspatira caraṇe
“eka-bāra mātra tāṅre dekhimu nayane

Jayapatākā Swami: The people caught hold of Vidyā-vācaspati's feet and said, “We want to see Lord Caitanya just once.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.358

tabe sabe ghare yāi ānandita haiyā
ei vākya prabhu-sthāne jānāibā giyā

Jayapatākā Swami: “Then we will return home in happiness. Please put this request before Lord Caitanya. People were so frantic to see the Lord that they were overwhelmed in separation. They thought, just let us see Lord Caitanya once but what can Vidyā-vācaspati do, Lord Caitanya had already left!

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.359

kabhu nāhi laṅghibena tomāra vacana
ye-mate āmarā pāpī pāi daraśana”

Jayapatākā Swami: “Lord Caitanya will not refuse your request. Please help us sinners get His darśana in this way.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.360

yata mate vācaspati prabodhiyā kaya
kāhāra cittete āra pratyaya nā haya

Jayapatākā Swami: In whatever way Vidyā-vācaspati tried to solace them, internally they did not have trust in his words.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.361

kathokṣaṇe sarva loka dekhā nā pāiyā
vācaspatire o bole mukhara haiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: When after waiting some time, the people could still not see Lord Caitanya, they began to speak harshly about Vidyā-vācaspati. People in their loving ecstasy to see Lord Caitanya, started to criticize Vidyā-vācaspati. Since they thought he was somehow depriving them of the darśana of Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.362

“ghare lukāiyā vācaspati nyāsi-maṇi
āmā'-sabā' bhāṇḍena kahiyā mithyā vāṇī

Jayapatākā Swami: “Vidyā-vācaspati has hidden the crest jewel of sannyāsīs in his house, and he is trying to deceive us with some lies.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhāta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: From Vidyā-vācaspati's house the Lord secretly went to Kuliyā, which is a short distance from Vidyā-vācaspati's house and which is situated on the other side of the Ganges in present day Navadvīpa. But the people, being eager to see Mahāprabhu, did not believe Vidyā-vācaspati's words and considered him miserly.

Jayapatākā Swami: Kuliyā is also aparādha-bhañjanera kuliyā-pāṭa, a place where one can get forgiven for offenses.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.363

vācaspatira prati anuyogamukhe lokasaṅghera sujanera dharma kathana—
āmarā tarile vā uhāra kon duḥkha
āpanei tari' mātra ei kon sukha”

Jayapatākā Swami: “What is the difficulty for Vidyā-vācaspati, if we are delivered? What kind of happiness is it to be delivered alone?” In their loving ecstasy of not seeing Lord Caitanya, they became angry against Vidyā-vācaspati. They thought that he was hiding Lord Caitanya from them.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.364

keha bale,—“sujanera ei dharma haya
sabāra uddhāra kare haiyā sadaya

Jayapatākā Swami: Someone said, “It is the duty of pious people to compassionately deliver everyone.”

See Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (3.4.25).

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.365

‘āpanāra bhāla hau’ ye-te-jana dekhe
sujana āpanā’ chāḍiyāo para rākhe”

Jayapatākā Swami: “Only ordinary people desire their own benefit, while a pious person sacrifices his life to deliver others.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.366

keha bale,—“vyābhāreo miṣṭa-dravya āni’
ekā upabhoga kaile aparādha gaṇi’

Jayapatākā Swami: Someone else said, “Even in ordinary dealings it is an offense to buy sweets and enjoy them alone.”

In this way they are saying so many things against Vidyā-vācaspati, who had no fault of his own, just speculating.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.367

eta miṣṭa tribhuvane ati anupāma
ekeśvara ihā ki karite āche pāna”

Jayapatākā Swami: “Lord Caitanya's sweetness is incomparable within the three worlds. Should one relish such sweetness alone?”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.368

keha bale,—“vipra kichu kapaṭa-hṛdaya
para upakāre tata nahena sadaya”

Jayapatākā Swami: The people were so distressed in not seeing Lord Caitanya, so they are saying all kinds of things against Vidyā-vācaspati, this situation may soon go out of control, if he doesn’t do something quick.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī): Another person said, “This brāhmaṇa is somewhat deceitful. He does not have the compassion to help others.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.369

prabhura virahaduḥkhera upara ābāra lokera anuyoga-vākye vācaspati vyathita—
eke vācaspati duḥkhī prabhura virahe
āro sarva loke o durjaya-vāṇī kahe

Jayapatākā Swami: Vidyā-vācaspati was already unhappy because of separation from Lord Caitanya, and then people began to speak harsh unbearable words against him. Vidyā-vācaspati was feeling two heavy distresses, one he was very sad at the disappearance of Lord Caitanya and then he was being criticized by all the people as if he was lying to them.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.370

dui mate duḥkhī vipra parama udāra
nā jānena kon mate haya pratīkāra

Jayapatākā Swami: That magnanimous brāhmaṇa was distressed in two ways, so he did not know what to do. He did not know what is the solution.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.371

janaika brāhmaṇera vācaspatira nikaṭa prabhura kuliyā vijayera kathā gopane nivedana—
henai samaye eka āsiyā brāhmaṇa
vācaspati-karṇa-mūle kahilā vacana

Jayapatākā Swami: At that time a brāhmaṇa came and whispered something in Vidyā-vācaspati's ear.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.372

“caitanya-gosāñi gelā kuliyā-nagara
ebe ye yuyāya tāhā karaha satvara”

Jayapatākā Swami: “Lord Caitanya Gosāi has gone to the village of Kuliyā. Now you quickly do whatever is considered reasonably necessary.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 3.373

vācaspatira ānanda o brāhmaṇake āliṅgana—
śuni' mātra vācaspati parama-santoṣe
brāhmaṇere āliṅgana dilena hariṣe

Jayapatākā Swami: As soon as Vidyā-vācaspati heard this news, he became greatly pleased and joyfully embraced that brāhmaṇa. So, the people were getting more agitated so, Vidyā-vācaspati put five people to search his house and report to the others that Lord Caitanya was not there.
