Hare Kṛṣṇa! Dear Devotees! Today we will continue with the compilation of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book.

Today's chapter is entitled as: Kāzī Is Induced to Chant Kṛṣṇa by Gadādhara Dāsa
Under the section: The Pastimes of Nityānanda

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.395

gadādharadāsera grāme durdānta o kīrtana-vidveṣī kājīra vāsa—

sei grāme kājīāche parama durbāra
kīrtanera prati dveṣa karaye apāra

Jayapatākā Swami: In that village, there was a Kāzī resided who was very cruel. He was very negative against kīrtana, against the performance of Harināma-saṅkīrtana, he held limitless hatred.

This is not the Chand Kāzī, he is another Kāzī.

Purport (By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda): In that village of Eṅḍiyādaha there lived a most powerful Kāzī who was greatly inimical to religious principles and who strongly opposed the congregational glorification of Hari.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the way the Islamic government works, they appointed some Kāzī who was the chief administrator of that particular area. Navadvīpa had Chand Kāzī and there was another Kāzī in this village and that Kāzī was against Harināma saṅkīrtana.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.396

premānande matta gadādharera nirbhaye niśābhāge kājī-gṛhe gamana—

parānande matta gadādhara mahāśaya
niśā-bhāge gelā sei kājīra ālaya

Jayapatākā Swami: Gadādhara Mahāśaya being mad in transcendental bliss, at the end of one night he went to see the Kāzī at his house.

Gadādhara dāsa, He was spontaneously Kṛṣṇa consciousness and he was always absorbed in an ecstatic mood. So in one of his ecstasies he approached this inimical Kazi

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.397

ye kājīra bhaye loka palāya antare
nirbhaye calilā niśā-bhāge tāra ghare

Jayapatākā Swami: Out of fear of that Kāzī, people ran far away. Fearlessly Gadādhara dāsa went at end of the night to the Kāzī’s house.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.398

niravadhi hari-dhvani karite karite
praviṣṭa hailā giyā kājīra bāḍīte

Jayapatākā Swami: Constantly chanting the holy names of Hari, “Hari Bol! Hari Bol!” again and again He fearlessly entered the Kāzī’s house.

Normally people would be very afraid of the Kāzī but this Gadādhara dāsa, he was so Kṛṣṇa conscious, he was depending on Kṛṣṇa that he was completely fearlessly he went the chanting the holy names right into the house of the Kāzī. “Hari Hari!”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.399

sagaṇa kājīke dekhiyā gadādharera avilambe kṛṣṇa-nāmoccāraṇera janya ādeśa—

dekhe mātra vasiyā kājīra sarva-gaṇe
balibāre kāro kichu nā āise vadane

Jayapatākā Swami: Merely by seeing Gadādhara dāsa, all of the Kāzī’s people made him to sit down. Although they wanted to speak, still they did not make even say some words.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.400

gadādhara bale,—“āre, kājī beṭā kothāj
hāṭa ‘kṛṣṇa’ bala, nahe chiṇḍoṅ tora māthā”

Jayapatākā Swami: Gadādhara dāsa said, “Āre Where is that fellow, Kāzī? Quickly chant, ‘Kṛṣṇa,’ or I will cut of your head.”

Purport: By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Srila Prabhupada The word jhāṭa means “quickly,” “without delay,” or “soon.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.401

kruddha kājīra gadādharera bhāva-gati-darśane vismaya o gadādharera āgamanera kāraṇa-jijñāsā—

agni-hena krodhe kājī hailā bahira
gadādhara dāsa dekhi’ mātra hailā sthira

Jayapatākā Swami: The Kāzī was angry like fire, he came outside but as soon as he saw Gadādhara dāsa, he became pacified. Such was the power of Gadādhara dāsa. Hari Bol!

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.402

kājī bale,—“gadādhara, tumi kene ethā?”
gadādhara balena,—“āchaye kichu kathā

Jayapatākā Swami: The Kāzī said, “Gadādhara, why are you here?” Gadādhara replied, “I have something to say.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.403

gadādharera ukti––śrī-caitanya-nityānandāvatāre ekamātra kājīi harināme vañcita; kājīra mukhe harināma-kīrtana karāibāra janya gadādharera kājī-gṛhe āgamana—

śrī-caitanya nityānanda prabhu avatārī’
jagatera mukhe balāilā ‘hari hari’

Jayapatākā Swami: “Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityānanda had descended from the spiritual world, every mouth in the whole universe, speak the words, ‘Hari! Hari!’

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.404

sabe tumi mātra nāhi bala hari-nāma
tāhā balāite āilāṅa tomā-sthāna

Jayapatākā Swami: “Only you alone do not say the Harināma, therefore, to make say (Harināma), I have come here to your place. Hari Bol! Haribol!

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.405

parama-maṅgala hari-nāma bala tumi
tomāra sakala pāpa uddhāriba āmi”

Jayapatākā Swami: “You, chant the most auspicious holy name and I will deliver you from all your sins.”

Hari Hari ! Haribol!

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.406

hiṁsakacaritra kājīra vismaya—

yadyapiha kājī mahā-hiṁsaka-carita
tathāpi nā bale kichu hailā stambhita

Jayapatākā Swami: Although the Kāzī was most violent and envious by nature, still he did not say anything, he was stunned.

How Gadādhara dāsa went fearlessly to the Kāzī, told him to chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, how the whole universe was chanting except him.

The envious Kāzī was speechless He couldn’t say anything.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.407

paradivasa kājīra ‘hari’ balibāra pratiśruti—

hāsi bale kājī,—“śuna dāsa gadādhara!
kāli balibāṅa ‘hari’, āji yāha ghara”

Jayapatākā Swami: The Kāzī then smiled and said, “Listen, Dāsa Gadādhara, tomorrow, I will say, ‘Hari’, today, you go home.”

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): Although the Kāzī was most envious and opposed to religious principles, he smiled on seeing Gadādhara’s simplicity. While smiling, he said, “By your request I will chant the name of Hari tomorrow. For now, you go home.” As a result, Gadādhara became especially happy to hear the name of Hari issue from the mouth of the Kāzī.

Somehow the Kāzī had started chanting the names of Hari. So, many people they make fun, what are all these Hare Kṛṣṇas' doing, but by chanting the name of Hare Kṛṣṇa they also get blessings.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.408

kājīra mukhe harināma śuniyā gadādharera mano'bhīṣṭa paripūraṇa o ānande nṛtya—

hari-nāma-mātra śunilena tāra mukhe
gadādhara-dāsa pūrṇa hailā prema-sukhe

Jayapatākā Swami: As soon as Gadādhara dāsa heard the Harināma from the mouth of Kāzī, he became filled with transcendental ecstasy and love for Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.409

gadādhara dāsa bale,—“āra kāli kene
ei ta’ balilā’hari’ āpana-vadane

Jayapatākā Swami: Gadādhara dāsa then said, “Why tomorrow? You just now uttered, ‘Hari’ from your own mouth. Hari Hari !

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.410

āra tora amaṅgala nāhi kona kṣaṇa
yakhana karilā hari-nāmera grahaṇa”

Jayapatākā Swami: “Your inauspiciousness is not there anymore, since you have accepted to chant the Harināma.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.411

eta bali’ parama-unmāde gadādhara
hāte tāli diyā nṛtya kare bahutara

Jayapatākā Swami: After speaking these words, with great transcendental ecstasy, Gadādhara dāsa clapped his hands and danced intensely.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.412

granthakāra-kartṛka gadādharadāsera mahimā-kathana—

kata-kṣaṇe āilena āpana-mandire
nityānanda-adhiṣṭhāna yāṅhāra śarīre

Jayapatākā Swami: After some time Gadādhara dāsa returned to his temple. Lord Nityānanda would always resided in his body.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.413

hena-mata gadādhara dāsera mahimā
caitanya-pārṣada-madhye yāṅhāra gaṇanā

Jayapatākā Swami: Such are the glories of Gadādhara dāsa, who is counted among the associates of Lord Caitanya.

So, these qualities are visible among the associated of Lord Caitanya and thus they fearlessly spread the Harināma-saṅkīrtana.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.414

ye kājīra vātāsa nā laya sādhu-jane
pāilei mātra jāti laya sei-kṣaṇe

Jayapatākā Swami: Even the breeze that blew over the Kāzī that was not taken by the saintly persons, because simply by getting that breeze, they would lose their caste immediately.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.415

hena kājī durbāra dekhile jāti laya
hena jane kṛpā-dṛṣṭi kailā mahāśaya

Jayapatākā Swami: Such an envious Kāzī simply who by simply glancing would take away their caste, takes away their Hindu dharma, such a person was given a merciful glance by Gadādhara dāsa Mahāśaya.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.416

hena jana pāsarila saba hiṁsā-dharma
ihāre se bali—‘kṛṣṇa’-āveśera karma

Jayapatākā Swami: When such a cruel person gives up all violent behavior, by chanting the holy names of Kṛṣṇa by His presence one is purified.

Purport (of Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): The Kāzī of Eṅḍiyādaha was most sinful. Whenever he got the opportunity, he would take away the caste of those who did not respect him. Śrī Gadādhara dāsa destroyed the envious nature of such classes of people. Therefore, he displayed the potency of Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

Jayapatākā Swami: Gadādhara dāsa was truly a Vaikuṇṭha man, He would go anywhere and he would give mercy to anyone, and thus He had the potency of Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityānanda, so he was spreading Kṛṣṇa consciousness fearlessly.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.417

nityānanda-pārṣadagaṇera nityānanda-kṛpāya akṛtrima kṛṣṇabhāvera paricaya—

satya kṛṣṇa-bhāva haya yāṅhāra śarīre
agni-sarpa vyāghra tāre laṅghite nā pāre

Jayapatākā Swami: One who truly has Kṛṣṇa consciousness in his body, fire, snakes, and even tigers cannot harm such a person.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.418-419

brahmādira abhīṣṭa ye saba kṛṣṇa-bhāva
gopī-gaṇe vyakta ye sakala anurāga

iṅgite se saba bhāva nityānanda-rāya
dilena sakala priya-gaṇere kṛpāya

Jayapatākā Swami: The pure love of Kṛṣṇa which Brahmā and others desire, the pure love which the gopīs manifested for Kṛṣṇa by His merciful glance, He bestowed His associates Lord Nityānanda-rāya. By His mercy He gave attachment to Kṛṣṇa through all His associates.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): Demigods headed by Brahmā cannot understand the gopīs’ cultivation of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. But Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu mercifully and freely gave His own servants the gopīs’ attachment to Kṛṣṇa, which is rare for even personalities like Brahmā.

Jayapatākā Swami: Who would like to have attachment to Kṛṣṇa like the gopīs had? Lord Nityānanda would give that to His associates simply by His merciful glance. Hari Hari Bol!

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.420

bhaja bhāi, hena nityānandera caraṇa
yāṅhāra prasāde pāi caitanya-śaraṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: O brothers, please worship the lotus feet of Lord Nityānanda, by whose mercy one can attain the eternal shelter of Lord Caitanya.

So, that thing which is very difficult to achieve ordinarily even by Brahmā, Śiva or great devatas, that pure love of Vṛndāvana vāsis was given by Lord Nityānanda simply by His merciful glance.

Hare Kṛṣṇa.

Thus ends the chapter entitled, Kāzī is induced to chant Kṛṣṇa by Gadādhara dāsa
Under the section: The Pastimes of Nityānanda

So, I pray every day for all my disciples, initiated, aspiring, sheltered, sīkṣā and my grand disciples initiated by Caitanya Caraṇa Dāsa that they may also be very strong in their Kṛṣṇa consciousness and also be very enthusiastic for preaching, not only enthusiastic but also successful. Hari bol!
