20241231 New Year Eve Address at Gaura Village in Śrī Māyāpur dhāma, India

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram
hariḥ oṁ tat sat

So Lord Caitanya went to the devotees and He asked the devotees if He had a disease. And Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura asked, "What are Your symptoms?" He said, "Whenever I hear the holy name of Kṛṣṇa tears comes from My eyes and hair stand on end, My voice chokes-up. Do I have a disease?" Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura said, "Yes! You have a disease! I want that disease also!" [Haribol!] That disease is love Kṛṣṇa. "And naturally people won't understand Your ecstasy. So You could come here and do nocturnal kīrtana. And I will make sure that devotees, who attend, who will be able to understand Your ecstasies." 

So here in Gaura Village every year New Year's eve they have kīrtana. Actually, this kīrtana was held by Lord Caitanya. So He did the kīrtana every night, but we do on New Year eve. Lord Caitanya would come every night and do kīrtana. At least we should do it on New Year's eve. Of course, for use New Year is Gaura-pūrṇimā. But it is auspicious to do kīrtana. I would like to come here, you are all chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa! So, it is very nice that people are chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. Pañca-tattva are very happy when people chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. Unfortunately, I had dialysis tomorrow, so therefore, I can't stay very long. But I do hope that every one chants Hare Kṛṣṇa, everyday. Hare Kṛṣṇa!
