Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.16.33

abhūtāṁ vigata-smayau

Translation: But those two gatekeepers, the best of the demigods, their beauty and luster diminished by the curse of the brāhmaṇas, became morose and fell from Vaikuṇṭha, the abode of the Supreme Lord.

Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.16.34

tadā vikuṇṭha-dhiṣaṇāt
tayor nipatamānayoḥ
hāhā-kāro mahān āsīd
vimānāgryeṣu putrakāḥ

Translation: Then, as Jaya and Vijaya fell from the Lord’s abode, a great roar of disappointment arose from all the demigods, who were sitting in their splendid airplanes.

Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.6.35

tāv eva hy adhunā prāptau
pārṣada-pravarau hareḥ
diter jaṭhara-nirviṣṭaṁ
kāśyapaṁ teja ulbaṇam

Translation: Lord Brahmā continued: Those two principal doorkeepers of the Personality of Godhead have now entered the womb of Diti, the powerful semen of Kaśyapa Muni having covered them.

Purport: Here is clear proof of how a living entity coming originally from Vaikuṇṭhaloka is encaged in material elements. The living entity takes shelter within the semen of a father, which is injected within the womb of a mother, and with the help of the mother’s emulsified ovum the living entity grows a particular type of a body. In this connection it is to be remembered that the mind of Kaśyapa Muni was not in order when he conceived the two sons, Hiraṇyākṣa and Hiraṇyakaśipu. Therefore the semen he discharged was simultaneously extremely powerful and mixed with the quality of anger. It is to be concluded that while conceiving a child one’s mind must be very sober and devotional. For this purpose the garbhādhāna-saṁskāra is recommended in the Vedic scriptures. If the mind of the father is not sober, the semen discharged will not be very good. Thus the living entity, wrapped in the matter produced from the father and mother, will be demoniac like Hiraṇyākṣa and Hiraṇyakaśipu. The conditions of conception are to be carefully studied. This is a very great science.

Jayapatākā Swami: Today is the disappearance day of Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura. So, here we have three verses together. So these doorkeepers of Vaikuṇṭha, they were given a choice, if you want to come back quick, then take three births as the Lord’s enemy, or seven births as His devotee. So they wanted to come back quick, so they took the three births as enemy. So, we can see here that being a gṛhastha is not at all easy! It is a great science, Śrīla Prabhupāda said, to have Kṛṣṇa conscious children! Śrīla Prabhupāda in 1977, in London, on his Vyāsa-pūjā, he gave a lecture. There he told all the gṛhasthas that you should be paramahaṁsas. And all of you should have ācāryas as children. Here we have Kaśyapa Muni, he knew, he told his wife, this is the time or muhūrta of Lord Śiva and this was not a proper time for performing garbhadāna. So he said that if you conceive in this inauspicious Śiva muhūrta then the child would be a demon. So, we don’t need any more asuras. Recently, the Prime Minister, he spoke during his “Man Ki Baat” program, (revealing my mind). It doesn’t mean, “monkey bath!” Anyway, it doesn’t mean that! He was saying that now there are many thieves, dishonest people, who use the internet to cheat others. So, they call someone up and dress as police, and say the Supreme Court has ordered to arrest you. Give me little cash, and I will not arrest you! So, this is going on. The Prime Minister warns the citizens of India, this way the police don’t work, they don’t call up on the phone and so on. All these cheaters, their parents obviously did not do the garbhadāna-saṁskāra!

Sometimes I send out a portion of the garbhadāna-saṁskāra with my blessings. The day you perform garbhadāna-saṁskāra that day in the morning, both of you pray to the Deities, to have a Kṛṣṇa conscious child. Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, he was a gṛhastha, a family man. He had Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda as a son. This was Śrīla Prabhupāda desire that all the gṛhasthas should perform garbhadāna-saṁskāra and beget ācāryas as their children. One lady was inquiring in 1969, how to perform the garbhadāna-saṁskāra. Then at that time, how much knowledge was available? Any way Śrīla Prabhupāda said, chant 50 rounds. And Śrīla Gopāla Bhaṭṭa wrote the Sat-kriyā-sāra-dīpikā. So, he was one of the Six Gosvāmīs and in his book, the garbhadāna-saṁskāras are mentioned. In his book, in which the brāhmaṇas do the saṁskāra s, he said they should chant the Puruṣa-sūkta and the Svasti-vācana in the morning. The point is that in the morning they pray to the Deity, chant Harināma or auspicious mantras, and then in the night, not during twilight, you can have the saṁskāra, it is a very short procedure. So the demons were very powerful, and their father was also very powerful. So, we need instead of this scenario of inauspicious time, etc., the opposite!

So today being the disappearance day of Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura, he was acting as a gṛhastha. We know that in his previous birth, he was Nārada Muni. But he wanted to take part in Lord Caitanya’s pastimes, and so he accepted this form of Śrīvāsa. He was outside his house in the courtyard with many devotees chanting with Lord Caitanya. Gauuurāṅga! Inside his house there was some wailing ahhh…. Oh no! So Śrīvāsa went into the house and asked, “What was happening? Why are you all making this noise?” “Your son died,” they said. “If you don’t stop making this noise, you may disturb the kīrtana of Lord Caitanya, then I will also die,” he said. Lord Caitanya stopped the saṅkīrtana and He asked Śrīvāsa, “What was happening and why he went into the house and what was the noise that was coming.” Śrīvāsa said, “Oh, my son died! Your son died, come on, that is a serious thing, why did you not tell me,” said Lord Caitanya! “I did not want to disturb your kīrtana,” Śrīvāsa said. Śrīvāsa, “You are too much,” Lord Caitanya said, “Bring your son here!” He brought his son and lay him down in front of Lord Caitanya. Lord Caitanya said, “Please get up!” So, the dead son stood up! Gaurāṅga! “Why have you left your mother and father,” Lord Caitanya asked. “Which one? Every birth I have a different father and mother,” the boy said. “Śrīvāsa and Mālinī, of course.” “Oh! They were very nice! They taught me how to be Kṛṣṇa conscious. I left my body during Your kīrtana and went back to Godhead, but You called me back!” So then, Lord Caitanya asked the mother, “What should We do?” She was happy that her son went back to Godhead. So, she said, “Okay, he can go!” So, we see here now Kaśyapa Muni and Diti, their sons were taking birth as great demons. But Śrīvāsa and Mālinī had a Kṛṣṇa conscious child, and he went back to Godhead!

So, after Lord Caitanya took sannyāsa and went to Jagannātha Purī, then, there were several times, but on one occasion He came back to Bengal. He went to Pānihāṭi dhāma and from there He went north. And I do not remember the whole yātrā but He went through many places, like Halisāhar and Kañcaḍapāra when Śrīvāsa was residing there. He stayed with Śrīvāsa for a few days. He told Śrīvāsa, “I don’t see you doing any work. How do you maintain yourself?” Śrīvāsa said, “If I had any trouble then I would just clap my hands three times.” “Then!” Lord Caitanya said, “What does that mean?” He said, “After clapping my three times, if nothing happens, tie my legs and throw me in the Gaṅgā.” Lord Caitanya laughed, “Even if Lakṣmī devī, the goddess of fortune would have to go beginning door to door, begging, you will never, never, face any shortage!” Gaurāṅga! Gaurāṅga! Gaurāṅga! Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura!

Any questions?

Question: As you mentioned Guru Mahārāja, as garbhadāna-saṁskāra should be done in auspicious time. But question is nowadays is that youth boys are addicted to nonsense things and even devotees who are young indulge in these (masturbation). If they want to sincerely accept gṛhastha-āśrama and perform garbhadāna-saṁskāra, they should strictly follow brahmacārya. So, one who indulges in sinful activities being a devotee, how can he produce ācāryas from them because his consciousness is already disturbed? So what should that devotee do?

Jayapatākā Swami: I don’t understand what sinful activities he means. I was present when one gṛhastha, he had gone to a prostitute. And Śrīla Prabhupāda asked him, you are gṛhastha, why did you go to a prostitute? That is sinful! He said, my wife is only for having a child, but I need more than that! Śrīla Prabhupāda said, that it is not sinful if a gṛhastha has a relation with his wife. In the 5th canto of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, it says, relations between husband and wife are considered as celibacy. But if one performs the garbhadāna-saṁskāra and all that, then it is better. So, the point is that instead of doing some kind of sinful sex, you can have a relation with your wife, that is not sinful. But if you have garbhadāna-saṁskāra and try to have an ācārya santāna, children, at an auspicious time, that is devotional service! The days when garbhadāna-saṁskāra should not be done are like fast days, Nṛsiṁha-caturdaśī and other festivals also, like Pūrṇimā, Amāvasyā, Ekādaśī. Not so many days are prohibited. Gṛhasthas come to me and say, Gurudeva, I want to perform garbhadāna-saṁskāra, please give me your blessings. In this Kali-yuga it is actually prohibited to take sannyāsa. At great risk we take it.

Hare Kṛṣṇa!
