2nd January 2015 ILBS Delhi
Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 7.183
adhyayane pitāmātāra anumati pradāna vinā aśuci sthāna-tyāge nimāira asammati-jñāpana —
prabhu bole,-“yadi more nā deha’ paḍite
tabe muñi nāhi yāṅa,—kahilum̐ tomāte
Translation: The Lord replied, “I tell you, if you don’t allow Me to study, then I won’t leave this place.”
Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord Said, that if I am not allowed to study, I will not leave these pots, I am telling you
Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 7.184
nimāira adhyayana varjana-hetu sakalera śacīke bhatsanā —
sabei bhatsena ṭhākurera jananīre
sabe bole,-“kene nāhi deha’ paḍibāre?
Translation: Everyone present then admonished the Lord’s mother, “Why don’t you allow Him to study?
Jayapatākā Swami: All who were present, they began admonish Śacīdevī. They all said, “Why you don’t allow your boy to study?”
Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 7.185
jaḍavidyā o pāṇḍityārjane tātkālika lokasamājera utsāha-paricaya—
yatna kari’ keha nija-bālaka paḍāya
kata bhāgye āpane paḍite śiśu cāya
Translation: “Some people take great efforts to get their child to study. It is most auspicious if a child wants to study.
Jayapatākā Swami: How many parents, treat their son carefully, so that he studies? How fortunate you are. Your boy wants to study. It’s His own desire.
Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 7.186
kon śatru henabuddhi dila bā tomāre?
ghare mūrkha kari’ putra rākhibāra tare?
Translation: “Which enemy has given you the idea to keep your son at home, uneducated.
Jayapatākā Swami: What enemy has given this type of negative intelligence? Who has misguided you to not allow your son to study, to be an illiterate and keep your son in the house.
Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 7.187
sakalera nimāira pakṣa o ācaraṇa samarthana —
ihāte śiśura doṣa tilārdheka nāi”
sabeibolena,—“bāpa, āisa, nimāñi!
Translation: “This child has no fault at all.” Then they said to Nimāi, “Come, Nimāi!”
Commentary: The word tilārdheka means “even a speck” or “even a little.”
Jayapatākā Swami: None of those present, saw any fault in what Nimāi was doing. That He wanted to study, they were in complete agreement. They told “Come child, come on Nimāi”
Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 7.188
āji haite tumi yadi nā pāo paḍite
tabe apacaya tumi kara bhālamate”
Translation: “If You are not allowed to return to Your studies from today, then You can continue Your destruction.”
Jayapatākā Swami: If you are not allowed to study today (onwards) and then you can very well destroy as much as possible
Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 7.189
prabhu-tattvajñagaṇera prabhura līlā-darśane sukha—
āise prabhu, seikhāne basi’ hāse
sukṛtisakala sukhasindhu-mājhe bhāse
Commentary: Sukṛtisakala,—saubhāgyavān viṣṇuprītikāmi janagaṇa.
Translation: Still the Lord did not leave His seat. He continued sitting there smiling as the pious people there floated in an ocean of bliss.
Commentary: The word sukṛti-sakala refers to those fortunate persons who desire to please Lord Viṣṇu.
Jayapatākā Swami: So the Lord, He didn’t come. He seated on the discarded clay cooking pots and He was smiling. All were very fortunate, and they were in an ocean of bliss.
Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 7.190
svayaṁ śacīra nimāike dhāraṇa, nimāira hāsyopamā—
āpane dhariyā śiśu ānilā jananī
hāse gauracandra,—yena indranīlamaṇi
Commentary: Yena indrinīlamaṇi, arthāt nimāira gaura aṅge sarvatrai aśuci o varjita randhana-patrādira kālimā lipta thākāya, bodha haitechila, yena nīlakāntamaṇi svīya ābhā vikīrṇa kariteche; athavā, tām̐hāke yena sākṣāt śrīnanda-gopālera nyāya vā (bhāḥ 11/5/32—“kṛṣṇavarṇaṁ tvisakṛṣṇaṁ” ślokasthita ‘akṛṣṇam’ padera śrīdhara svāmipādera ṭīkā-mate) kali-yugāvatārera “indranīlamaṇivat ujjvala” varṇera nyāya kṛṣṇavarṇa dekhāitechila.
Translation: Then mother Śacī personally pulled Him off His seat, and Lord Gauracandra smiled like a shining blue sapphire.
Commentary: The phrase yena indranīla-maṇi indicates that the golden body of Nimāi was smeared with soot from the impure rejected cooking pots, therefore He looked like a brightly shining blue sapphire, or He looked exactly like Śrī Nanda-gopāla. Otherwise (according to Śrīdhara Svāmī’s commentary on the word akṛṣṇam found in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 11.5.32—“kṛṣṇa-varṇaṁ tvisākṛṣṇaṁ”), Kṛṣṇa’s incarnation for Kali-yuga looked as bright as a blue sapphire.
Jayapatākā Swami: Mother Saci, grabbed the hand of her son Gaura and pulled him off the pile of rejected clay cooking pots. Gaura was laughing and He was smeared with the soot of the cooking pots. He looked like a brilliant blue sapphire which reminded one of Nanda Gopāla. And in this way, He fulfilled the prediction of the 11th canto of Bhāgavatam in which it’s said that Kṛṣṇa would come in the Kali-yuga, but that He would be a non-blackish color, and He would spread the Harināma saṅkīrtana.
