Jaya Rādhā Kṛṣṇa Dāsa: No Guru Mahārāja this section is only from Caitanya-Bhāgavata where Śrī Gaurāṅga's quarrel with His co-students in Gaṅgā is only from Caitanya-Bhāgavata not even from Murāri Gupta’s Kaḍacā and others also. This is not mentioned even in Kavi Karṇapura’s kāvya or nāṭaka. It is only in Caitanya-Bhāgavata of Vṛndāvana dāsa Ṭhākura.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.40

pratyaha pāṭhānte vayasyagaṇa-saha nimāira gaṅgāsnāna—

ei-mata prati-dina paḍiyā śuniyā
gaṅgā-snāne cale nija-vayasya laiyā

Translation: After school, the Lord regularly went with His friends to bathe in the Ganges.

Lord Caitanya goes to Ganges with fellow students

In this way, every day, Lord Caitanya would do His studies, listen to the lessons and then go with all His classmates of the same age to take the bath in the Ganges river.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.41

navadvīpa asaṁkhya chātrera pāṭhānte gaṅgā-snāna-rīti—

paḍuyāra anta nāhi navadvīpa-pure
paḍiyā madhyāhne sabe gaṅgā-snāna kare

Translation: In Navadvīpa there were innumerable students, and they all took bath in the Ganges at midday.

Commentary: At the time of the Lord there were many schools in Navadvīpa, wherein innumerable students from various provinces studied the scriptures. The area of Navadvīpa at that time stretched northeast up to Dvīpacandrapura.

Jayapatākā Swami: At the same time, all the other teachers and gurus would leave their students freedom at noon and they would all go to the Ganges. So, there was no shortage of students in Navadvīpa. Thousands and thousands of students were all going to the Ganges at the same time.

So, at the noon time, all the students were taking their mid-day bath in the Ganges.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.42

vibhinna adhyāpakera vibhinna śiṣyagaṇera madhye vivāda —

eko adhyāpakera sahasra śiṣya-gaṇa
anyo ‘nye kalaha karena anukṣaṇa

TRANSLATION: Each teacher had thousands of students, and they would regularly challenge the students of the other teachers.

Jayapatākā Swami: Each teacher would have even a thousand students or more and so there would be a battle between the students of different masters.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.43

bālya-vayase capala nimāira chātragaṇasaha śāstra-vivāda—

prathama vayasa prabhu svabhāva-cañcala
paḍuyā-gaṇera saha karena kondala

Translation: As the Lord was young and restless, He would also quarrel with the other students.

Commentary: The words prathama vayasa mean “in childhood” or “in boyhood.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Each group of students from a different master they would praise one master and denigrate some other master. Nimāi, He was a young boy then and by nature He was very restless and spirited. So, He would also engage in different quarrels.  

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa: Recited the heading and Śloka again.

Jayapatākā Swami: Kondala means?

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa: Kondala means Jagada

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.44

chātragaṇera madhye parasparera gurura mahimāya doṣāropa —

keha bole,—“tora guru kon buddhi tā’ra”
keha bole,—“ei dekha, āmi śiṣya yā’ra”

Translation: Someone would challenge, “Your teacher is not very learned.” Another would say, “See whose disciple I am.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, one would say that, “Look at me. I am a student of such and such master” and another would say, “Look at me, I am the student of such and such master.” So, in this way their false-ego would increase.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Caitanya-bhāgavata ādi-khaṇḍa 8.45

mukhāmukhi haite hātāhāti—

ei-mata alpe alpe haya gālāgāli
tabe jala-phelāpheli, tabe deya bāli

Translation: In this way they began to quarrel with harsh words, and soon they would splash water and throw sand at each other.

Jayapatākā Swami: It was started with verbal quarrel, criticizing one master and glorifying their own master and then it would turn into splashing fight and throw water on each other and someone starts throwing sand. Like this the fight was gradually increasing.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.46

ataḥparaspara prahārārambha—

tabe haya mārāmāri, ye yāhāre pare
kardama pheliyā kā’ro gāye keha māre

Translation: Eventually they would beat each other or throw mud at each other.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, in this way someone was increasing the fight by throwing some Ganges mud and someone would be hit by the mud then they would throw mud back. Like this someone would be hit, and someone was ducking and it was been missed.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.47

phale keha vā dhṛta, keha vā apara taṭe palāyita —

rājāra dohāi diyā keha kā’re dhare
māriyā palāya keha gaṅgāra upāre

Translation: Some boy, in the name of the king, would catch another boy, and someone would beat another and then swim across the Ganges to safety.

Commentary: The words gaṅgāra upāre refer to the present-day city of Navadvīpa (Kuliyā) and the village of Rāmacandrapura.

Jayapatākā Swami: [28:24 - Not Clear] What’s dohāi meaning

Śyāma Rasika Dāsa: Some boy, in the name of the king, would catch another boy, and someone would beat another and then swim across the Ganges to safety.

Jayapatākā Swami: [28:52 – Not Clear]

Śyāma Rasika Dāsa: The boy is adult.

Jayapatākā Swami: Who grabbed the boy in the name of the king? Another boy?

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa: repeating the śloka again, speaking in Bengali [29:37]

Jayapatākā Swami: Someone would grab a boy in the name of the King and starts to beat him with the hands and another boy would come and hit someone and then run. And some would flee across the Ganges and swim to the other side.  

Śyāma Rasika Dāsa: [30:51] [speaking in Bengali about the tika]

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.48

chātragaṇera kalahaphale gaṅgājale paṅkilatā-prakāśa—

eta huḍāhuḍi kare paḍuyā-sakala
bāli-kādāmaya saba haya gaṅgā-jala

Translation: They wrestled so intensely that the waters of the Ganges became full of sand and mud.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the young students were creating such a disturbance that the Ganges was becoming filled with Ganges mud and becoming discolored by their fighting in the waters.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.49

pallī nārīgaṇera jalānayane o brāhmaṇādira snāne asuvidhā—

jala bharibāre nāhi pāre nārī-gaṇa
nā pāre karite snāna brāhmaṇa sajjana

Translation: In that situation the girls were unable to fill their water pots and the gentle brāhmaṇas were unable to take their bath.

Jayapatākā Swami: The village ladies who would come to take water from the Ganges were not able to, since the Ganges was agitated, filled with mud. And the local brāhmaṇas who wanted to take their mid-day bath, say their Gāyatrī, they could also not do so, because of the great disturbance which had been created.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.50

capala nimāira pratighāṭe giyā pratyeka chātrera saha vivāda —

parama-cañcala prabhu viśvambhara-rāya
ei-mata prabhu prati-ghāṭe-ghāṭe yāya

Śrī Viśvambhara was most restless. He went to each bathing ghāṭa.

Translation: Śrī Viśvambhara was most restless. He went to each bathing ghāṭa.

Commentary: The word prati-ghāṭe refers to His own bathing ghāṭa, Bārakoṇā-ghāṭa, Mādhāi’s ghāṭa, Nāgariyā-ghāṭa, and other ghāṭas.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: Pratighāṭe,—āpanāra ghāṭa, bārakoṇā ghāṭa, mādhāira ghāṭa, nagariyā ghāṭa prabhṛti ghāṭe.

Jayapatākā Swami: Navadvīpa had many bathing ghāṭas, stairways into the Ganges. And Viśvambhara, He went to each ghāṭa and He picked a quarrel with different students.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.51

prati-ghāṭe paḍuyāra anta nāhi pāi
ṭhākura kalaha kare prati ṭhāñi ṭhāñi

Translation: At each ghāṭa there were innumerable students, and the Lord debated at every ghāṭa.

Jayapatākā Swami: There were countless students in each bathing ghāṭas. Lord Nimāi would approach each student and create some quarrel. 

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.52

prati-ghāṭe yāya prabhu gaṅgāya sāṅtāri’
eko ghāṭe dui cāri daṇḍa krīḍā kari’

Translation: The Lord swam to each ghāṭa and enjoyed debating there for one or two hours.

Jayapatākā Swami: Sometimes Nimāi would swim from one ghāṭa to the next and He would play watersports in some of the ghāṭas. He might spend, one and a half to three hours in each bathing place.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.53

vayojyeṣṭha vijña chātragaṇa kartṛka kalaha-kāraṇa-jijñāsā —

yata yata prāmāṇika paḍuyāra gaṇa
tā’rā bole,—“kalaha karaha ki kāraṇa?”

Translation: The senior students asked the boys, “Why are You arguing?

Commentary: The word prāmāṇika means “knowledgeable,” “mature,” “principle,” or “expert.”

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: Prāmāṇika, —vijña, pravīṇa, pradhāna, kuśala. 

Jayapatākā Swami: The senior most students who were more established and wise, they were asking, “Why this disturbance? Why this quarrel?”

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.54

pañjīvṛttira tātparya-jijñāsā dvārā vivādakārigaṇera medhā-parīkṣā—

jijñāsā karaha,—“bujhi, kā’ra kon buddhi!
vṛtti-pañji-ṭīkāra, ke jāne, dekhi, śuddhi

Translation: “Let us see who can explain the proper forms of vṛtti, pañjī, and ṭīkā.”

Commentary:  Vṛtti is the brief explanation of a verse, ṭīkā is the expanded explanation of a verse, and pañjī is a poetic description of a subject. Previously kāyasthas used to write pañjī. On the Kalāpa grammar composed by Sarva Varmā there is a ṭīkā written by Susena Vidyābhūṣaṇa, a pañjī written by Trilocana Dāsa, and a vṛtti written by Durgā Siṁha that are all very famous. Gaṅgādāsa Paṇḍita taught Kalāpa grammar to his students, headed by Nimāi.

The word śuddhi means “the pure form,” “the real truth,” “the purport,” and “the confidential truth.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, they received the reply.

Jaya Rādhā Kṛṣṇa Dāsa: They are telling and then prabhu is telling [43:24].

Śyāma Rasika Dāsa: This is, students are asking. Next verse is Mahāprabhu speaking.

jijñāsā karaha,—“bujhi, kā’ra kon buddhi!
vṛtti-pañji-ṭīkāra, ke jāne, dekhi, śuddhi

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the wise students, the older students were asking, “Why this disturbance, why this quarrel between different students”. One is questioning another to see how much intelligence and learning they have. They said, “Who knows the brief explanation of the verse, who knows how to explain the verse in an expanded way and who can describe the verse in a poetic way.” 

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.55

nimāira uttara-pradāne utsāha o autsukya—

prabhu bole,—“bhāla bhāla, ei kathā haya
jijñāsuka āmāre yāhāra citte laya”

Translation: The Lord replied, “Yes, good. You can ask Me anything you like.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Nimāi said, “Very good. I am happy to hear this. Let anyone ask me a question, whatever is on their mind”.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.56

nimāira garbe anya chātragaṇera asahiṣṇutā; nimāira sva-kṣamatāya acala viśvāsa-hetu nirbhīka ukti—

keha bole,—“eta kene kara ahaṅkāra?”
prabhu bole,—“jijñāsaha ye citte tomāra”

Translation: One student asked Him, “Why are You so conceited?” and Nimāi replied, “Ask Me whatever you like.”

Jayapatākā Swami: The other students, were not able to tolerate the pride of Nimāi and they asked, “Why one student should have so much pride”, but Nimāi said, “Come on, ask me any question that’s on your mind.”

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.57

dhātusūtra-vyākhyānārtha anuruddha nimāira vyākhyānārambha—

“dhātu-sūtra vākhānaha”—bole se paḍuyā
prabhu bole,—“vākhāni ye, śuna mana diyā”

Translation: The same student then said, “Explain the sūtras on verbal roots.” The Lord replied, “Listen attentively to what I say.”

Jayapatākā Swami: The same student asked the following question, “Okay, explain the sūtras on the verbal roots”. Nimāi answered, “Okay, listen to my explanation with full attention.” 

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.58

sarvaśaktimān viśvambharera apūrva vyākhyāna —

sarva-śakti-samanvita prabhu bhagavān
karilena sūtra-vyākhyā ye haya pramāṇa

Translation: The all-powerful Supreme Lord Viśvambhara then explained the sūtras according to the prescribed grammatical rules.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: pramāṇa,—(viṇa) pramāṇa-siddha, viśvāsya.

Commentary: The word pramāṇa means “perfect evidence” or “faith.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nimāi, who was actually the Supreme Personality of Godhead, explained the root form of the verbs according to the established rules. And all the students listened and agreed.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.59

vyākhyā-śravaṇe sakalera stuti, punarvāra nimāira takhana —

vyākhyā śuni’ sabe bole praśaṁsā-vacana
prabhu bole,—“ebe śuna, kari ye khaṇḍana”

Translation: Hearing His explanation, everyone praised Him. The Lord then said, “Now hear Me refute these explanations.”

Jayapatākā Swami: All the students present praised Nimāi, “Yes. What you have said is the established principle.” Nimāi answered, “Ok, listen, now I am going to defeat all these statements.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.60

sarvavidha vyākhyā-khāguna, sakalake tatpunaḥ sthāpane āhvāna—

yata vyākhyā kailā, tāhā dūṣilā sakala
prabhu bole,—“sthāpa’ ebe kā’ra āche bala”

Translation: After the Lord refuted each of His explanations, He then asked, “Now who can reestablish these explanations?”

Jayapatākā Swami: Then Nimāi took each of those verbal root rules and found defects and in this way obliterated all the rules and then He challenged, “Now is there any student that can support these rules?”

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.61

tatśravaṇe sakalera vismaya, nimāi-kartṛka khaṇḍita vyākhyāra punaḥsthāpana o nirdoṣa-vyākhyā —

camatkāra sabei bhāvena mane mane
prabhu bole,—“śuna, ebe kariye sthāpane”

Translation: Everyone there was struck with wonder as Nimāi said, “Now hear Me reestablish those explanations.”

Jayapatākā Swami: The students present were bewildered how the Lord had found defects in all of the rules he stated. And then Nimāi said, “Now listen, I am going to reestablish the rules.”

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.62

punaḥ hena vyākhyā karilena gauracandra
sarva-mate sundara, kothāo nāhi manda

Translation: Śrī Gauracandra then again established those explanations in such a wonderful way that no one could find any fault.

Commentary: The word manda means “fault,” “excuse,” or “error.”

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: Manda,-‘khuṅt’, chidra, doṣa.

Jayapatākā Swami: Now Gauracandra, He reestablished the verbal root rules defeating all the criticisms he had raised earlier and establishing the rules free of any defects and in all respects beautiful and acceptable.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.63

pradhāna chātragaṇera harṣabhare nimāike āliṅgana—

yata saba prāmāṇika paḍuyāra gaṇa
santoṣe sabei karilena āliṅgana

Translation: All the senior students then embraced Nimāi in satisfaction.

Jayapatākā Swami: All the senior, honest students were very pleased with Nimāi’s show of learning and they spontaneously embraced Him and praised Him.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.64

chātragaṇera paradivasa punarvāra praśnānte taduttara-prārthanā —

paḍuyā-sakala bole,—“āji ghare yāha
kāli ye jijñāsi, tāhā balibāre cāha”

Śyāma Rasika Dāsa: The other students said, “Today You can go home, and tomorrow we will have more questions for You.”

Jayapatākā Swami: All the senior students said, “All right! Now, go to your homes and take your meals. Tomorrow you come and we will have more questions to ask of you and you can give us the answer.”

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.65

pratyahanimāira gaṅgāya vidyā-vilāsa-līlā—

ei-mata prati-dina jāhnavīra jale
vaikuṇṭha-nāyaka vidyā-rase khelā khele

Translation: In this way the Lord of Vaikuṇṭha enjoyed His pastimes as a student playing in the water of the Ganges.

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way every day the Lord of Vaikuṇṭha was relishing His play in the Ganges water.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.66

nimāira vidyā-vilāsera sāhāyyārtha saśiṣya bṛhaspatira navadvīpe āvirbhāva—

ei krīḍā lāgiyā sarva-jña bṛhaspati
śiṣya-saha navadvīpe hailā utpatti

Translation: To assist in His pastimes, the omniscient Bṛhaspati took birth in Navadvīpa along with his disciples.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: Sarvajña,—ādi-viṣṇusvāmīra nāmāntara. tini pāṇḍyadeśe candanavana-kalyāṇapure āvirbhūta hana. vartamāna kali-yuge sāmpradāyika vaiṣṇava-dharme sarvāgre tāṅhārai prathama sthāna. tini bauddhamata khaṇḍana kariyā śrī-jagannātha-devake sundarācale laiyā yāna. khṛḥ pūḥ 3ya śatāvdīte vijayapāṇḍya āvirbhūta hana. śrī-puruṣottama vijaya karibāra para pāṇḍyarāja svadeśe pratyāvṛtta haile bauddhagaṇa punarāya

śrī-jagannātha-devake nīlācale laiyā yāya. kayeka śatāvdī pare sundara-pāṇḍyera rājyādhikāra-kāle punarāya uttaradeśa-vijaye āgamana samaye pūrva-smatikrame ye-sthale śrī-jagannātha-devake ānayana karā haya, sei sundarācala-nāme vṛkṣavāṭikāi paravartikāle guṇḍicānāme khyāti lābha kare. ei ghaṭanāra kayeka dina pūrve śrī-śaṅkara-śiṣya padmapādācārya chatrabhoga nāmaka sthāne maṭha nirmāṇa karena. pare uhā śrī-rāmānujācāryadvārā samudratīre sthānāntarita haya. śaṅkara-sampradāye ‘saṁkṣepa śārīraka’ nāme ekakhāni grantha āche; uhā ‘sarvajñātma-muni’-kartṛka racita baliyā vijñāpita. ei sarva-jñātma-muni kakhanao vaiṣṇavācārya sarvajña-muni nahena. sarvajña muni śuddhādvaitavādera ādi-pravartaka. jaina-sampradāyeo apara ekaṭī sarvajñera kathā pracārita āche. sarvajña sampradāye bṛhaspati prabhṛti anekaguli adhastana śiṣya haiyāchilena.

Commentary:  The word sarva-jña is another name for the original Viṣṇusvāmī. He appeared at Candanavana-Kalyanapura, in the province of Pandya. He is the first Vaiṣṇava ācārya in this age of Kali. He defeated the philosophy of Buddhism and brought Śrī Jagannāthadeva to Sundarācala. Three hundred years before Christ a king named Vijaya Pandya appeared. After he conquered Śrī Puruṣottama and brought Lord Jagannātha to his own province, the Buddhists returned Lord Jagannātha to Nīlācala. A few hundred years later, during the reign of Sundara Pandya, he was reminded of the place where Lord Jagannātha was brought while going to conquer the northern provinces. That place, known as Sundarācala, later became known as Guṇḍicā. Shortly before this incident a disciple of Śaṅkarācārya named Padmapādācārya built a maṭha at the place known as Chatrabhoga. Later on this maṭha was shifted to the shore of the ocean by Śrī Rāmānujācārya. There is a book named Saṅkṣepa-śārīraka in the Śaṅkara-sampradāya that is said to be written by Sarvajñātma Muni. But this Sarvajñātma Muni cannot be the Sarvajña Muni who established the philosophy of śuddhādvaita. There is another Sarvajña in the Jain sampradāya as well. In the disciplic succession of Sarvajña Muni there were many disciples, including Bṛhaspati.

Jayapatākā Swami: Bṛhaspati, with his disciples took their birth in Navadvīpa at the Vidyānagara to help Lord Caitanya in His pastimes.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.67

bālakagaṇasaha jalakrīḍopalakṣe gaṅgāra parapāre gamana—

jala-krīḍā kare prabhu śiṣya-gaṇa-saṅge
kṣaṇe-kṣaṇe gaṅgāra upāre yāya raṅge

Translation: While sporting in the Ganges, the Lord and His friends would sometimes swim to the other side.

Commentary: The words gaṅgāra upāre refers to Kuliyā, or the present-day city of Navadvīpa.

Jayapatākā Swami: At that time, the main city of Navadvīpa was on the eastern bank of the Ganges and sometimes Lord Caitanya would play with his schoolmates on the eastern side, where He lived and sometimes He swam across the Ganges to the western side which was known as Kuliyā.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.68

dvāpare kṛṣṇapriyā yamunāra saubhāgya-darśane gaṅgārao tadrupa sva-saubhāgya-kāmanā—

bahu manoratha pūrve āchila gaṅgāra
yamunāra dekhi’ kṛṣṇacandera vihara

Translation: Seeing the good fortune of the Yamunā in obtaining the association of Lord Kṛṣṇa, the Ganges had cherished the desire for the same opportunity.

Jayapatākā Swami: Since a long time, it was the strong desire of the Ganges to get the mercy that the Yamunā was receiving where Kṛṣṇa would bathe for many hours in the Yamunā waters. She wanted the Lord also bathe in her waters.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.69

“kabe haibeka mora yamunāra bhāgya”
niravadhi gaṅgā ei balilena vākya

Translation: The Ganges constantly prayed, “When will I be fortunate like the Yamunā?”

Jayapatākā Swami: The Ganges said, “When will it be mine good fortunate to also have the Lord play in my waters like he did it in the Yamunā?”

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.70

brahmā-rudra-stutā haiyāo gaṅgāra yamunā-saubhāgya vāñchā—

yadyapiha gaṅgā aja-bhavādi-vanditā
tathāpiha yamunāra pada se vāñchitā

Translation: Although the Ganges is worshiped by Lord Brahmā and Lord Śiva, she nevertheless still desires the good fortune of the Yamunā.

Jayapatākā Swami: Although the Ganges is worshiped by Brahmā and Lord Śiva, yet she desired to have the good fortune of the Yamunā.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.71

kalite bhakta-vāñchā-pūraka viśvambharera pratyaha krīḍādvārā gaṅgāra vāñchāpūraṇa—

vāñchā-kalpa-taru prabhu śrī-gaurasundara
jāhnavīra vāñchā pūrṇa kare nirantara

Translation: Lord Gaurasundara is like a wish-fulfilling tree that constantly satisfied the desires of the Ganges.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Gaurāṅga was the fulfiller of all the desires. So, by His having His pastimes in the Ganges River, He fulfilled all the desires of Jāhnavī devī, the Ganges.

Deva Gaurāṅga Dāsa:

Śrī Caitanya-Bhāgavata Ādi-khaṇḍa 8.72

gaṅgājale krīḍānte gṛhe pratyāgamana—

kari’ bahu-vidha krīḍā jāhnavīra jale
gṛhe āilena gauracandra kutuhale

Translation: After enjoying various pastimes in the waters of the Ganges, Śrī Gauracandra joyfully returned home.

Jayapatākā Swami: After He having His midday pastimes in the Ganges River, He returned home in high spirits.
