26/NOV/2015 His Holiness Jayapataka Swami Guru Maharaja Addressing a Marriage Ceremony @ Sri Rajapur, India
I was trying to get here between 11am to 1pm; but some things last minute people had to see me. So, we are very happy that in front of Lord Jagannath Baladeva and Subhadra, Srila Prabhupada and all the Vaisnavas, the vows and the vivaha-sacrifice was performed. Srila Prabhupada describes in the 18th chapter of the Bhagavad-gita - I think verse 5 or 6 that one should never give up sacrifice. (Check with Vidvan Gauranga Prabhu) He said, normally sannyasi should not seen on wedding so much. But, since the Bhagavad-gita says that sacrifices should never been given out. And one of the sacrifices meant for purification of a mankind is vivaha-yajna. So then he said that, "I participating in wedding ceremonies of the younger disciples to give them my blessings." So we are following in the footsteps of Srila Prabhupada.
When I was in the Montreal temple serving Srila Prabhupada, three grhasthas had come to the temple on their way to London — Shyama Sundar, Guru Das, Mukunda Das and their wives —Jamuna, Malati and Janaki. So, they were successful in arranging an audience with Srila Prabhupada were the Jan Lennon and Gorge Harrison. And Gorge Harrison had donated the Bhaktivedanta Manor. And they made some records Govindam and Hare Krishna Temple and many more. In fact you will see in the book on 'Chant and be happy' — interviews with Gorge Harrison and Srila Prabhupada. I asked Gorge when he came to Mayapur, "did you mean all those thing that you said?" He said, "They didn't put everything that I had said. I said much more, they didn’t put it." Now we should get the unedited, uncensored interview. But, Why I am bringing this up is just that, Srila Prabhupada was so proud of his grihastha devotees. And how they had been very successful in the front page of one of the daily's in London, there was a headline, "HARE KRISHNA ROCKS LONDON". He was saying that, "My Gurudev's (Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur) sannyasi disciples where not successful, but my grihastha were." (Check with Vidvan Gauranga Prabhu) We have lots of hope that our grihastha disciples will also be very successful in preaching. I am not letting the brahmacaris of the hook [Laughter]. But, we see that husband and wife make a nice team, they can do wonderful things. And they can reach people… Where when they see us get frightened, because they think, "Oh! Swamiji will make us take sannyasa!" So the husband and wife they can use the 'soft-sell'. Our self may be tend to be bit harsh. But, grihastha can say, "Come and have dinner with us, this is our house." And the guest can see around "Oh! that's not bad, they live like me. But, they seem to be happy." We want you to be happy and peaceful. Srila Prabhupada said, "This material world is not meant for gentleman or gentle-lady." But be that as it may, we are here so that we as well as like the best of the bad bargain; (this highlighted sentence I didn't understand) that in the material world there is all kinds of people and so if the husband and wife treat each other nice and be a nice team. Then materially they can peaceful and spiritually they can go back to Krishna. Haribol!
So wife here is a doctor, she can cure bodily diseases, we also want her to be a doctor for the soul. The husband is a teacher, he done a engineer, he had done a Electrical Engineer — he can get us charged up. [Laughter] So you can teach Electrical Engineering also about the living force in the body. I saw Srila Prabhupada preaching to my mother, and he was telling her about the living force. That is the nice way of saying the soul. But you can it in a modern way. So she was deeply, deeply impressed. In fact she put in her will that, she wanted to be cremated and ashes portion of them should be put in the Ganges of Mayapur. So, I am sorry that I am late, but at least I made it. I wish you all the best. [END]
