The following is a lecture on “Parikramā: The Pastimes of Antardvīpa and Sīmantadvīpa” given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on March 5, 1992 – in Śrī Māyāpur, India.

Is very appropriate that we are sitting before the deity of Śrīla Bhakti Siddhantra Saraswati Prabhupāda at his Samadhi Mandir at.

The beginning of our Navadrita Parakama.

This parikramā that we are taking part.

In.

Was explained by Rla Bhakti Vinod Thakur based upon the explanation given by Nitananda Prabhu to Shiva Goswami. And it is his son.

Who.

Took out many parikramas both of Nabat Viddam and Śrī Brantra Mandala. When he used to go out in big processions, sometimes there were numbers of thousands upon thousands of pilgrims. By doing this parikramā, he established the importance of it. So what we are doing now, following in his footsteps, we hope to receive the mercy of His Divine grace and Śrī Caitana Mahāprabhu and all of his associates and the members of the civic succession. When we go on Parakram, we should understand what is the proper mood. The Daam is manifest when our heart is free offenses. Otherwise, the holy Dham is covered by a covering of material energy which does not permit it to be seen by those who have not the qualification. As a result, those who are too much materialistic, sinful, they see the dam as an ordinary material place.

Certainly, aspiring devotees of the Lord, we would like to be able to behold the actual spiritual Dharma. And therefore we have to be in a constant mood of prayer when we are going out on purgatory. Each of the places which we visit is connected with the past times of the Lord and his associates. So when we approach a place trying to understand ahead of time, I am coming to this particular place which has the following. The great Acharyas were here. That same dust can now be accepted. Accept this upon our head, upon our bodies, and it is chantamini. It is transcendental. A little bit of this dust can purify us so much. One time, I recall, Prabhupāda was sitting in Los Angeles and one Vaishnava came from the dam bringing some dust. This was in 1970, 68. So brought some dust to Prabhupāda.

And of course, at that time we did not know the significance. But Prabhupāda immediately took the dust, leaned his head back, open his mouth and ate the dust. And were very amazed as we did not understand at that time. So this dust is chintamini. It is transcendental. It can create within the mind and the heart transcendental emotions. So we are very fortunate. How fortunate is Very hard to comprehend. It is not possible to come on this paragraph by some material means. It is actually astonishing. We should feel ourselves to be the most fortunate persons in the world to be able to come here somehow by some qualification. What is that qualification?

The strong desire of the Acharyas as manifest by our founder Acharya Śrīla Prabhupāda, who created a vehicle, a society iskcon which has given us all the opportunity to do devotional service in the field of preaching. And because of all of that activity, devotional service and preaching, this has transferred us here to this holy town. So we go out to preach to get the qualification to be here. And we come here to do parikramā to get the qualification to preach reciprocal arrangement. That was Prabhupāda’s plan. So Rla Bhakti Siddhānta Saraswati Papur is pray to Śrī Bharsavanavi Devī Dayakri Bhavadaya Kṛṣṇa Sampanda Vijayana Dayana Prabhaveena Ma’, am, I offer my respectful obeisances to Śrī Barsa Banavi Devī dad,.

That is.

Another name, Mr. Bhakti Siddhānta Saraswati, given to him by his Guru Maharaj who is favored by Rt. Rādhārāṇī and who is the ocean of transcendental mercy and deliverer of the science of Kaja Śrī Ruka Nuga Bhakti Da Śrī Gaura Karuna Shakti Vigrahaya Namosta, I offer my respectful obeisances unto you, the personified energy of Śrī Caitanna’s Maharsi who delivered devotional service which is enriched with conjugal love of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa, coming exactly in the line of revelation of Rla Rūpa Goswami. Namaste Godavani Śrī Murtaye Dinatarane Virupa Nuga Virud. I offer my respectful obeisances unto you who are the personified teachings of Lord Caitana. You are the deliverer of the fallen souls and do not tolerate any statement which is against the teachings of devotional service enunciated by Śrīva Ripa Goswami.

So as we go on Navatvi Parikramā, we shall hear the past signs of Śrī Caitanna Mahāprabhu and we will be reminded of the pastimes of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa Rla Bhakti Siddhanda Sarasati Thakur was sitting here in Māyāpur, just at his Bhajan Kutir and by his Bhajan, by his prayer and devotion he could understand. Here is Govardhan Here is Rādhākun, here is Shamakund, here is Vrindavan. Because this is stated by Kṛṣṇa Daskabiraj Goswami that there is no difference between Navadvida and Vrindavan Dham. There is no difference between Śrī Caitana Mahāprabhu and Rādhākṛṣṇa. Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitana Rādhā Kṛṣṇa Nahi Anya. So there is no difference means that Bhakti Siddhānta, Saraswati Thakur could see with his spiritual vision the transcendental land of Braja. So what is the difference then? If there is no difference, is there a difference?

The difference is that when Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are worshiped in the form of Caitana Mahāprabhu, they are worshipped with the mode of Dāsya as a servant. Bhakti Vinod Thakur has explained that first of all we should learn to be in the humble mood of Adas, servant of Caitanna Mahāprabhu and rendering all service. What is that service? Especially Shravanam Kirtanam, Smarnam. Hearing and chanting and remembering are those essential. And all the other Angas of Bhakti. Doing all of these in the mood of a servant is the meaning of serving Caitana Mahāprabhu. Here it will be going to the holy place, bowing down. This is service to Mahprabhu. Taking the dust, hearing the past times of Caitanya Mahāprabhu is also service to Malaprabhu. Making prayers to Mahāprabhu, dedicating your life to his mission, to his eternal service is of service to him.

Offering prayers, taking Chana Riddha which has bathed his deity form or the forms of his associates. His service to him, bowing down before his associates, chanting his holy names. All of these are Seva. In the mood of Das, in the mood of Dasa, in the mood of a servant of Caitanda Mahāprabhu. Then when Caitana Mahāprabhu is pleased, we will be able to understand the pastimes of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa. Ramananda Roy showed how this is possible. Because of his pure love and devotion to Chaitanu Mahāprabhu. Lord Caitanda revealed to Ramananda Roy his form as Śrī Sirādhā and Kṛṣṇa. So all of the places that we shall visit, nearly all of them, many of them in any case are connected both in Gore Leela and in Rādhākṛṣṇa Leela.

And we will hope that those who speak to us will remind us of the relationship between these two. This is very wonderful revelation that our Goswamis have given us. Headed by Śrīla River Goswami has written so many literatures and Raghunathas Goswami, Sanātana Goswami, Jīva Goswami have written so many literatures. In many of these literatures they begin by dedicating to Caitanya Mahāprabhu and then they begin to describe the pastimes of Kṛṣṇa. So the significance is that following the footsteps of Śrī Ruka Goswami as Rla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasatpur is straight to hear that he always spoke according to the teachings of Śrī Ruka Swami and he understood the inner desire of Ruhla Goswami. That inner desire is that he always dedicate himself to the teachings of Caitpanna Mahāprabhu for the ultimate purpose of love for Śrī Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa.

So Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasoti Accor has enriched the world by bringing forward so many literatures, valuable literatures which he either wrote, translated or published, and by initiating so many qualified devotees and by giving instruction and empowering our spiritual master Śrīla Prabhupāda to travel and preach throughout the world, bringing the mission of Caitanu Mahāprabhu, the message of Caitanha Mahāprabhu to all the.

People of the world.

So we will offer our obeisances again to Rla Bhakti Siddhartha Sarasati Dakar Śrīla Prabhupāda has given us this prayer. Namaste Sara Sati Devī Gauravani Pracharane Nirdishesa Sunna Vadi Prabhupāda himself has written this nice prayer. Did we offer our respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of our spiritual master who is the very near most servitor of Rla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasati Thakpur. And he has been bringing the message of Caitana Mahāprabhu to the Western world to destroy impersonalism and voidism.

So we pray that Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasati Ṭhākura, his powerful Nishinga guru, preaching methods and message can be firmly fixed in all of our hearts so that we can go out and be of assistance to Rla Prabhupda by spreading the Kṛṣṇa Consciousness movement worldwide so that there will not be one single human being left on the planet who can claim I never heard Hare Kṛṣṇa Bhakti Siddhānta Sara Sati Tagore Prabhuvada.

Just like when he sang the thousand names of Vishnu for Lord Chaitanya when he got to the name of Narasiṁha, the Lord Chaitanya went into Narasinga ecstasy and ran in the street with the stick to chastise. They are looking for the miscreants like this there are many different pastimes so but it’s difficult to stand here on the sun. By the conscious mercy of their lordships they have appeared. So devotees can take Darshan. D. Sam sa.

Ra.

Ram. Natalie sam. It’s sa.

So at that time he came here and he recognized that this place was Sinavid with the place of the Lord’s pastime. So as a Shaktavesh empowered avatar he excavated a very large lake here and this lake was then here for the pleasure of the Lord as well as the enjoyment of the devotees. Later on in due course of time it became full as it’s becoming full now in other words, the water dries out and it becomes full of earth. So about 800 years ago, 900 years ago Lakshman Sen who was Lashma s who is the son of Balasin he re excavated this lake and he called it Banal Digi after the name of his father B who was also the king. And so this is now known as Pritukund or it’s also known as Bali.

It’s a very sacred place and we will be walking along the banks and then joining on again onto Bakistan.

Never that we’re sitting under is 500 years old. This tree. Actually there’s two trees here. There’s a chowpat and a neem tree. You can see they’re growing up together. You can’t hardly distinguish one from the other. The little, small leaves coming out, those are neem leaves and these branches without any leaves, those are Champak. The flowers will come out very soon here there’s some leaves because the Chankatshi, his nickname was Champa and Lord Chitanya’s name was Imai. So when they laid his body to rest out of his day came his two trees. Rāma rāma hare hare kṛṣṇa hare.

Kṛṣṇa.

Kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa hare. Sam.

Called skin disease. Just like someone’s thinking I am a Brahmin because he was born in a Brahmin family so he has Brahmin skin. Prabhupāda said he’s thinking that he’s a Brahmin but actually he’s like a cobbler because a cobbler is a person who deals in skins for making shoes. So he’s on that platform, he’s a skin merchant, that’s all. He’s not a Brahmin. So this is real Brahminical knowledge. And this is real Brahminical culture. To be engaged in the platform of devotional service. Just as this gentleman has very kindly offered this champagne flower. Without any consideration of material bodily designations. Although he belongs to a different community, Indian community. And we’re belonging to Western side. And although he’s Muslim and we’re apparently members of a Hindu movement. He doesn’t have any such conscience. He’s accepted that these people are devotees of the Lord.

And we’re also accepting that he’s a.

Devotee of the Lord.

So Lord Ketana’s movement is the right movement on which everyone from every community can take part in pure consciousness. In eternal devotional service.

Been repeatedly approached by Cast Brahmins, by. People from the other community. Various kind of complainants came to him. So unilaterally he banned the Sankirtan movement. But Lord Chaitanya told his devotees to go on chanting. So then the Chankazi went and broke the Madras and ordered them not to chant anymore. Otherwise next time he would have them arrested. Then Lord Chaitanya told his followers that no one can stop the Sankirtan movement. And beside the different leading devotees to different parts of Nal the Deep. And they gathered hundreds of thousands of people together with burning flaming torches. And they all converged on the house of the Chankazi which was here just behind us. This is his tomb. His house was just there. So he was the government authority. This was the first civil disobedience done india for the right cause.

The Lord Chaitanya with all of the people of Navad. They were protesting against this injustice to unilaterally ban the prosecution of Hare Kṛṣṇa Mahā Mantra chanting. So the Chankazi came out and accepted. Actually he was hiding in his room. It was a very dangerous situation.

But then he.

He came out and he asked Lord Caitanya that since I am your uncle, Vilambar Chakravarti used to call me Kaka or Chacha uncle because he was living in a neighboring village. Similarly, you’re my nephew then so why you’re coming to your uncle’s house? So in such angry mood. Then Lord Chaitanya said, well, why you’re keeping your nephew standing in the street? You don’t even invite him in. So this way everything got cooled down. And Lord Chaitanya told our followers to.

Wait for a while.

Then there was a long discussion about Dharma and Lord Chaitanya. They discussed the Quran, they discussed the Vedas. And finally the Chankarshi accepted That what Lord Chaitanya was saying was even the real interpretation of the Quran. In other words, the teachings of Kṛṣṇa consciousness are so universal that they are fulfilling the purpose of every religion. They are the essence of all religious teaching. So even a devout Muslim like the Cham Kazi could appreciate that the teachings of Lord Chaitanya were actually the purpose, the highest purpose expounded in his own scripture. So finally, when Lord Caitanya touched the Chankazi, he became overwhelmed in ecstasy, a love of God. His body was shivering, tears are coming from his eyes. So even a person who was an offender like the Chankazi, by the touch of Lord Chaitanya, he became a lover of Kṛṣṇa.

He became a devout person. And he ordered that his so long as he is in charge of Navadi for as long as his descendants have any position that he told none of his descendants either should ever obstruct the Sankirta Bhuvan of Lord Caitanya. So even to this day, some of the descendants of the Chandkarati sometimes come and visit us. And they’re still favorable even to this day. As you have seen here, one of his representatives gave us a champa. So after everything was worked out like this, of course there are many other pastimes. Like the Chankati have the vision of Narasiṁhadev and so many other pastimes after that. All of Lord Caitanya’s devotees were so ecstatic. They have a huge Kīrtana and they were chanting and dancing in ecstasy very joyfully. Everyone was naturally very happy.

They had won the court case, they’d won the victory. They had established the supremacy and the freedom to chant Hare Kṛṣṇa without restriction. So even the common people who had participated, they also overwhelmed. Everyone was chanting. And they went nearby to the Jagannath temple. There’s a place called Visram Staat which is the Kolavichya Śrīdhar’s house. Later in the afternoon we will try to schedule a visit there. But from here we’re going first to the Jagannath temple which is on the way, which will be our Bitraham stone for today. So from here we need to chant the Holy name. Also we can try to take out that enthusiastic mood of Lord Caitanya and his followers. After having this successful meeting with the Chankazi. There are so many obstacles that may come in the way of our preaching or process Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

But if we can remember Morocci Tamya’s pastime with the Chankazi, how we overcome all the obstacles we can also understand that we can overcome all the obstacles in our devotional service and preaching if we simply take complete shelter of Nitāi Gore.

Which is Jagannath Purī Jagannath Mandir. It’s K. Jagannath Mandir is only 1 1/2 kilometers from here. But we live now I think would be very much fun time. Oh well, that’s all the over getting hot at this point we are entering Simon Tadvlik Seman Tadvik B. And that is Shravanam. That is a process. So from now onwards, all this afternoon, tonight, tomorrow morning till about 7 o’ clock we will be in.

And.

Then we will be entering the next week. That is for Kīrtana. Central belief. One pastime. Well, many pastimes. One pastime is. This is where Lord Brahma he performed austerities. He had come to Prajamandal and he had stolen Kṛṣṇa’s friends and the cows. And this was a sign of a blunder. He considered this as an offense that he committed at the lotus seat of the Lord. So he wanted to.

Rectify.

Atonement. Yeah, he wanted to undergo atonement. So he comes here to Ansar Dvit and he performs austerities and Lord Gaurang appeared. This is much prior to the appearance of lord Chaitanya Mahāprabhu 500 years ago. As we go around Navadi Mandal, we will realize that this is eternally existing here.

This is not.

This Navadip did not become popular because of Lord Chaitanya Mahāprabhu’s appearance 500 years ago. Lord Chaitanya Mahāprabhu has appeared here many, many unlimited times. Every time Kṛṣṇa appears in Vrindavan soon after Chetanya Mahāprabhu appears in Navadvi once in one day of Brahma Kṛṣṇa appears. The Chaitanya Mahāprabhu also appears once in one day of Lord Brahma. So so many days of Brahma cast. So he in each one of those days Satan Mahāprabhu has made his appearance in this dam. So this dam is not 500 year old dam. So prior to Lord Chaitanya Mahāprabhu’s appearance last appearance, while Brahma was performing austerities, Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu appeared that time immediately he begged forgiveness and he also prayed. And when he said, I know very soon you will be making your appearance in this home and I also would like to be one of your associates.

And Lord immediately blessed him. And when Gaurava Mahāprabhu appeared Brahma also appeared. And that Brahma appearance is Brahma Haridas Thakur at the time of Chaitanya Mahaprabhuva’s pastime. So he is our first Crya Brahma. And when he appeared as a Ghodiya Vaishnav he has chanted Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare.

Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hari Hari.

Ram Hari Rāma Ram Hari and set example before all of us In Ansardeep we also take this inspiration from a Brahman’s appearance and from Muhari Das Thakur the Haridas Takur and we chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. So that is one pastime. And now he’s se and we will be talking more today, this afternoon, this evening and tomorrow morning also. So before losing any more time as it is getting hot, let us leave.

This place is considered to be non different from Mathurā and Kazi is considered to be non different from Kongsa in Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes. In the same way Kaṁsa is related to Kṛṣṇa as his maternal uncle. So the Qazi was related to Caitanya Mahāprabhu just like the Qazi was crouched down with fear. However, Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu gave him Prema as his liberation and made the Qadhi a great devotee. The very fortunate had his story of his liberation. Just see the difference between V Tatva and Navad Tattva. The the offenders of Kṛṣṇa got liberation by merging into the Brahmani Po. The offenders in Navadv received love of God. Therefore Go Leela may be considered the highest of all. Go his home and his qualities. Do not consider offenses. But these offenses are easily overcome if the devotee has some offense in his heart.

Kṛṣṇa’s name and Kṛṣṇa’s form will only have an effect after a long time. However, with G and Gora Dharma one quickly gets brain. Offenses are no obstacle. Just hear the devotees and conquer over them easily. One who sees is the Samadhi of the Qazi. He’s finished with birth the Kazi Samadhi.

(Side B of the Cassette)

J. Maharaj is inviting everyone to be seated. This is in the island of Shivanta Deep. As was briefly explained by his own Lokrana Maharashtra. In Chankazi Samadhi. We have entered into the island of.

The.

Island of Hilling Savaram. Here there’s a very special garden where when Lord Śiva he was worshipping in Kailash. Lord Gaurāṅga chanting Gaurāṅga, Gaurāṅga. When his wife Pārvatī saw him chanting in such ecstasy, she was very inspired and she wanted to know whose name are you chanting? Who is this Goranga? And he explained how the Lord Kṛṣṇa himself comes in a golden form in the angel Kali and gives love of Godhead to all the fallen souls and start glorifying Lord Caitanya. So she wanted to get the mercy of the Lord. So she came here to this island of Navudweep, one of the nine islands. And she also began chanting Go Ranga. Go Ranga.

Go Ranga.

Go Ranga.

Go Ranga.

Go Ranga.

Go Ranga. Damn it. Damn it. Damn it. Damn it. Damn it. Damn it.

And Lord Chaitanya revealed himself to Mother Pārvatī. And she became overwhelmed with ecstasy. She fell down at the lotus feet of the Lord to pay her decences. And. She took the dust from the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya and put it on her head. The part of the hair of the chaste women, the Patiwatis, following their husband, they wear the Sindor and the part of the hair that the red mark. So that part of the head, that part in the head is called the Śrī Manta. And she took the dust of Lord Shaitanya and put it there. So that’s why this is called Śrī Mantadvit. Because the dust of Lord Caitanya was put on the Śrī Mantra of Pārvatī. In this island. The Pārvatī pleaded to Lord Caitanya that you’re the deliverer of the most fallen souls. You’re giving everyone your mercy.

But is it only island will be deprived. I won’t get your mercy. I am the most unfortunate. All the devotees, they say we want nothing to do with Māyā. They call me the rich. They want to keep me far away from them. So I don’t get association with the pure devotees everywhere. I am deprived. So at least you have to give me your mercy that I can get pure love of Kṛṣṇa. So Lord Chaitanya blessed her that she could realize her actual position. That she Apta Shakti, she is a expansion of Adharani so she could realize her Achita. Vena Buddha Tattva her ability aspect with Rādhārāṇī and taste the nectar of pure love for Kṛṣṇa here and she want to be. So she has taken on a special service in protecting the holy dove.

She’s known as Bodama and she keeps out the insincere souls from the dove and she helps the sincere devotees who want to advance in their Kṛṣṇa consciousness. So we need the blessings of Bodamaya Yoga Māyā in order to engage in the Lord’s service here. This particular part of Śrī Matutti is known to be non different from Jagannath Purī millions or, I don’t know, thousands of years ago. Rather, Lord Jagannath from Purī actually came here and resided in this very same place where there was a demon called Raktabahu Asur who was taking the arms off the Brahmanas and sucking their blood. He loved Brahmin blood. He said it was better. So the Brahmanas thought it was wise to take Lord Jagannath because they could not live without their deity and they could not live being in that place.

So they had to take Jagannath here until someone got rid of that Raktabahu demon. Later he said, I believe it was him. He had defeated the Rakta Bahu demon and Jagannath went back to Jagannath Purī. So since that eternally this is also not different from Jagannath Purī. About 500 years ago there’s a detailed history in models donated by Bola Buntar from Scotland that tells the story how 500 years ago these deities manifested themselves on the desire of a pure devotee, Jagadeesh Gandhuli, who was blind. And he wanted to go to Jagannath truly to see Lord Jagannath, but to be with Lord Caitanya. He asked all the associates of Lord Caitanya to take him. But everyone would say, yes, we will take you. But to go 500km walking in those days with a blind person was something that nobody really wanted to take the responsibility for.

So in the end he realized that they had left him again. They’d all gone. He was crying and praying to the Lord, when will I ever go to visit your holy town and take the Darstama and serve your lotus feet. I am so unfortunate. In a dream, Jagannath appeared to him and told him that you go bathe in the Ganges and the log will touch your body. You take it and get it carved into a deity form by one leper carpenter that are up here. You can worship me here. And this will be not different from Jagannath Purī. So they went to the Ganges. Sure enough, a big log touched his body. With the help of the villagers, they pulled it out. He brought it over to this leper carpenter and asked him now please call Jagannath Didi. The carpenter said, are you crazy?

I am a leper. I am dirty, I am not clean. Look at I got infection, toxin. Everything’s coming from my hand. How can I just carve a sacred deity? So then he was Jagadish was very much confused what to say. Then he said, listen, the Jagannath came to me in a dream. I take the full responsibility. If there’s any offense, any bit, it will come to me. I declare this. But are you willing to take the risk of disobeying the desire of Jagannath when he presented it like that? It’s okay. The comments of my light. I will do it. So then he calmed the as he was climbing down, his hands were getting more bloody and very hurting. It’s very difficult for Nakar. We have only had half his day fingers. Somehow or another it had rotted off with the leprosy. So somehow or another he was completing the deeds.

Finally, at the last strike, when he completed the final carving of the deity, that leper was completely restored to his original healthy condition by the mercy of Jagannath. Jagannathal increase. So these deities were installed with the Benedict ceremony. Enthusiasm. The deities were installed. Worship was going on in the Jagadeesh. Ganguri was completely fulfilled in his desire to serve the Lord his descendants. For generations the worship was going on. But after many generations, gradually they started to neglect. There’s a saying in Bengali that when you install a deity it’s ujjaha. But afterwards it can become nigraha or neglect if you don’t have the proper Kṛṣṇa consciousness. So his descendants started to neglect the deities. And they do the pūjā from six times a day to once a day. Then from once a day to once a week, from once a week to once a policy.

Then from once a converse once every pūrṇimā. Then finally it came once a year on Snan Yātrā they did a pūjā. The rest of the year he was just standing. No worship, anything was going on. Finally one year they forgot to do the Sna Yātrā also. And mysteriously after that, a plague hit this village. This village known as Rajapur in the ancient mounts of his hundreds and thousands of people living here today, apart from Iskcon, there’s three residents, they all died. So. You left the room for the new devotees to come. Thank you for all coming here to serve Jagannath. He’s very merciful actually. So he gave us an opportunity. He was neglected and he was in a big forest of bamboo and a big termite hill had covered him. And there was, you know, Jagannath is made out of wood.

But although he was in this termite hill, he wasn’t scabbed at all. One Brāhmaṇa had a dream about hundred years ago, eighty years ago, and the juggernaut was in this termite hill. And he dug under the termite hill and there he found these deities. And then he researched and found there was the ancient history and everything. He re established a temple over there with the help of all the local villagers. Ten years ago, with the help of Australasia, different dvts and devotees around the world. This temple was built here. And we move Jagannath from there to here. So that Brāhmaṇa, he had a dream. A Jagannath said he wanted to be worshipped by iskcon. So he contacted me and said he wanted to. He was very old and he didn’t want to give it over to his descendants.

He wanted the worship to be taken over by ISKCON. So then there was 21 shareholders for the piece of land and for the Delius worship. So then every one of them we signed an agreement and all the shareholders signed. There was one person hadn’t signed it who owned 1% of a share or half a percent. So we wanted to finish. I told the Pujari, don’t start until we worship, until we finish off all the legal things. I was thinking being too technical. Anyway, the Pujari didn’t get the message and started the worship three days later. After doing the worship, he got the message that weren’t supposed to start to worship till the legal things were taken care of. So he stopped. Then he came up to me crying one day practically.

And Pujari said, last night I had a dream and actually I have to reveal to you that I, without knowing that I wasn’t permitted, I started the worship of the deity. And I was bringing over Boga from the Rādhā Matav same kitchen and offering to Jagannath for three days. And when I stopped in my dream, I went to the temple, opened the door, I looked in the temple and there was no Jagannath Bhalade Subhaja. Then I looked across the field and I saw the three of them were walking away towards the Rādhā Mata of Amaya Puchandadaya Mandir. And they called out and said, we’re hungry. We’re going to take boba with Adamaro. And then I woke up and I realized that I did a great offense by starting and then stopping the worship.

So then I said, since then we have been worshipping Jagannath by the mercy of the Vaishnavas. Now we’re offering 56 offerings of prashad of the Jagannath. You know, Jagannath. One of the things about Jagannath worship is Jagannath said that he wants to take pesharv. And after he takes, you know, the boga, when he washes his hand, he never wants his hand to dry. Before it gets dry, he should again make another offering. His hand should always be moist with pesharam. And then all the prasad, of course, it will also be offered to the devotees. So we have a system here where different devotees sponsor the worship of Jagannathog, as it’s called, 56 offerings a day. So I don’t have all the details, but Jirani vaas kaboom.

Anybody wants take an unlimited mercy for a very little donation, you can sponsor the chap on the Bog of Jagannath holidays and get this special mercy. These deities have created many miracles. Even here. It’s not uncommon that Muslims come and offerings here, milk, fruits to the deity, people from all communities. Some students came here once before ISKCON came on the scene. And they came and there was no electricity here. Then there was no light. They came to see the deities and just before they came got there, the deity’s light with a little GE wig had burned out. They came, they couldn’t see anything. The pūjā was sitting there in the dark. And they said, oh, we thought there was a deity here. This all bogas. What is all this? They started criticizing, walking away.

As they got about 20ft away, all of a sudden the giwiks are shooting up like a butane lamb. Complete blue flame, right? So Pujari called him back. Could you come back here for a second? And then he said, here’s the deed. He’s taking darshan. And by the way, notice that light. There’s no g. There’s no wick left. They’re just shooting up out of the empty thing. And they looked at it and they looked at the deities and they started killing their ears in the Bengali,.

You.

Know, I committed a fans and banned dundabas and plaster and going back up and down and circumambulating and saying, please Forgive us, we doubted you, Lord. We never make this offense again. And since that time, you know, there’s a lot of students that have been coming here unlimited. I could go on telling you, there’s a whole book of pastimes. These deities are very active. And Sankirta devotees from all over the world can tell you stories how by playing to this day it is they achieved unlimited results in their Sankir preaching efforts by the mercy of these deities. So we are very grateful for the causes mercy of Jagannah Bhar Subhan Devī to allow us to worship them. Even though we’re not able to do so.

We don’t have the devotion, we don’t have the knowledge, we don’t have the bhakti, we don’t have the kriya. But somehow the Parado’s mercy and is the good for us of Shimanta gifts are allowing us to worship him with fruits and flowers and chapana books. And we pray that you will show his conscious mercy to all the devotees here so that they will also be able to worship and to expand that. Some kids are moving on Chaitanya Mahabharata all over the world.

Is that any better?

Everyone, why not move?

Move forward.

There’s lots of room. Brahmacharis can move up front here. Gentlemen, what you see here, this building, this is called Śrīdhar Angam. This was the home of Śrīdhar Kolovich Siddharthar who we read about somewhat in Chaitanya Chart Amrita. He lived in this area. And this is actually an official part of the Parikram. Therefore it is good that everyone had come here. R. Bhakti. No, Thakur records this as part of the Parikram tour, although it’s somewhat out of the way. So here you see, as we came by here, there was one Pukur. And if you look carefully, you will see that Pukur is actually just part of an even larger depression which was a large Pukur, a large lake here.

So at a time prior to Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s appearance, Vishvakarma, the engineer of the demigods, he was aware that in Māyāpur, when Chaitanya Mahāprabhu would do parikhram on the roads, that there would be a shortage of water, shortage of bathing water aside from Gaṅgā. So he constructed small. Built six large lakes at Vishvakarma. So this is one of those lakes. And Śrīdhar had his house here. And he had a small banana patch where he grew banana trees and bananas as a result of that. And he sold the banana flowers, the banana, the stalk, as well as the leaves themselves for making plates. And in this way he made an extremely meager living. He lived very humbly. And he lived alone here with 50% of his income. He worshipped Mother Gaṅgā and the Supreme Lord.

So here’s a nice example of someone who, despite the fact that they have very little in their possession, still he was giving 50%. And on the other 50% he managed just to make ends meet. He had a little cloth, and he had a thatched cottage over here. And he was always devoutly worshipping Lord Kṛṣṇa. He was elderly. He was about the same age as Advaitacharya. So he was much older than Caitanya Mahāprabhu. And he was also a distant relative, or at least an acquaintance of Satchi Mata and Jagannath Mishra. But Caitanya Mahprabhu would regularly come to this place and he would rest here. Therefore, this place is also known as Vishram Sthan, that means resting place.

We will see that there are also other resting places where Caitanya Mahāprabhu would rest when he would do his Nagara Sankirtan, or prior to that, when he would simply come around with his friends in their childhood pranks. When we see Hariharakshatra tomorrow, day after that is also day after tomorrow, there also is Vishramastan. There is also a large tree under which Caitanya Mahprabhu and his associates would rest. So here Lord Caitanya would come and he would swim in this large lake and he would rest, and he would actually tease Śrīdhar. He had a very intimate relationship with Śrīdhar. And we will read a little from some translation of Caitanya Bhagavad about Caitanya Mahprabhu’s pastimes, his association with Śrīdhar. This comes from the 11th or 12th chapter of Adelaide of Caitanya Bhagav.

And the sequence of events is that on certain occasions at this time still Nimāi was quite young. He would go with his friends and he would do a tour of Navadvip. And in this tour of Navadvip he would visit the perfume makers, just like our devotees sometimes go to purchase this attar for the deities that we offer. So Caitanya Mahprabhu would go and he would come with his friends. And simply by his extraordinary transcendental beauty that is Lord Caitanya’s unparalleled feature, amongst others, but most unique and outstanding Is that he would conquer the minds of non devotees, atheists, what to speak of the devotees with his unique transcendental features. So they would come with his friends and he would enter into the shop of the oil merchant and he would say, how much is your oil?

And he said, I have so many different types of oils. No, tell me your best oil, how much is that? So then he would say, oh, it is so much. And he said, all right, let me try it, let me see. So he would take out his bottle of best oil and Caitanya Mahāprabhu would try it on. Everyone knows you try it on your wrist and smell like that. So he’d put it on his wrist and then behind his ears he would put it on and he would say, it’s very nice, but I can’t afford it. So then the merchant would say, that’s all right. Because he was so attracted to Lord Caitanya just by the transcendental presence, he became so attracted. You take it anyway.

So then Caitanya Mahāprabhu would take the oil and then they would go a little further down to a cloth merchant and Chaitanya Mahat to say, let me see your best silk cloth. And he said, oh, it’s very expensive. That’s all right, let me see it anyway. So he would pull out the best cloth and Chaitanya Mahap would look at it and he would try it on. Oh, it’s very nice, but I cannot afford it. And then by that time he also would become so influenced that he became inclined to give. So in this way they would go then to the flower merchant and Caytani Mahāprabhu would get a nice flower garland. So they would do a tour of Navadvip like this and become completely adorned with all kinds of jewelry, paraphernalia, all at no cost. So finally Mahapavu came back in this direction.

And here at this time we read here that he visited Śrīdhar. The Lord went to the house of his dear friend Shridhar. The Lord was always pleased with Śrīdhar’s behavior and he would use any excuse to visit him. I don’t know if it’s going to reach all around. I can try and put her a little louder. They would always converse confidentially and joke with each other. In this way, several hours a day could be passed very happily. Shridhar offered the Lord obeisances and a seat as soon as he arrived. Śrīdhar’s calm and mild personality stood in obvious contrast to Nimāi’s stormy character. Śrīdhar, you are Always chanting Lord Hari’s name. So what is the reason for your suffering? You are serving the husband and master of Śrī Lakshmi Devī, the Goddess of Fortune. So why are you always in want of food and clothes?

I am not starving, replied Śrīdhar. And as you can see, I have clothes on. They are neither fine clothes nor the right size, but my body is covered. But Shridhar, agreed the Lord, the clothes are torn in several places and I know you have neither straw nor rice in your house. Look around you. All the citizens worship Goddess Chandi, Mother Durga, the destroyer of all enemies, and none of them suffer for want of food, shelter or clothing. You have made a good point, replied Siddharth. But generally speaking, everyone’s life is almost the same. The king may live in a palace surrounded by opulent opulence and eat sumptuously while the birds live in the open, or in a simple nest in a treetop and gather their own humble food. But basically, everyone’s approach to life is similar.

By the Lord’s design, each of us must meet the demands of duty, and in doing so we behave more or less alike. Personally, I prefer to live the life I am leading now. I am sure you have immense wealth hidden somewhere, accused the Lord, and you are relishing opulent food in secret. Soon I will make it known to everyone and then we will see how you continue to cheat the people. Come to my house, dear Learned Brahmin. Invited Śrīdhar and see for yourself. We should not start an argument here. I am not going to let you off so easily, said Nehemiah. Tell me what you are doing to what you are going to feed me. I make a simple living selling leaf clubs, replied Shiddhar. What can I offer to give you from such an income?

Respected Brahmin, I am not going touch your hidden wealth now that I will get later assured Nimāi. But if you give me banana root and some banana stocks right now without taking money, then I will not fight with you anymore. Śrīdhar thought to himself, he’s a very aggressive Brahmin. Someday he might even beat me. But even if he does beat me, what can I do? I really cannot afford to give him whatever he wants free each day. But I see he has a godly form. He is not an ordinary personality by any means. If he takes my things by force or by some other tricky means, then he is free to do so. I think this is my good fortune and in spite of my poverty, I will continue to give him whatever he wants. Having made his decision, Śrīdhar answered the Lord.

Dear Brahmin, you do not have to pay me anything at all. I will give you whatever you want with an open and happy heart. Take your bananas and other vegetables, take the leaf cups that I have, and please do not fight with me any war. Yes, that is a very satisfactory agreement, said Nehemiah. There should be no further fights, but please see to it that I get good quality bananas, banana stock, and radish. Daily the Lord ate with Śrīdhar from his leaf cups, relishing his bananas, banana stalks, radishes, and Śrīdhar’s cooking in general. When a gourd grew on Śrīdhar’s rooftop, the Lord had it cooked into a special preparation made with milk and hot spices. One day the Lord asked Shreedhar, what do you think of me?

As soon as you tell me that, I shall return to my house, śrīdhar replied, you are a Brahmin, part and parcel of the Supreme Lord Vishnu. No, you do not know me, said Nimāi. I belong to the community of cowherds and milkmen. You see me as a young Brahmin boy, but I consider myself to be simply a milkman. Shridharja smiled at the Lord’s comment. He could not recognize his own Lord and master. Being deluded by the Lord’s internal potency, Śrīdhar, I am going to reveal to you an esoteric truth. You see the river Ganges. I am the source of the Gaṅgā. O Nimāi Pandit, have you no fear in disrespecting Gaṅgā Devī like this? Asked the disturbed Śrīdhar. People usually become grave and serious as they grow older, but your frivolity seems to have doubled since your childhood.

After staying with Śrīdhar for some time, Nimāi Pandit returned home. He entered the temple room of Lord Vishnu, and his students took that as an indication that they should also return to their homes. This pastime of Caitanya Mahprabhu with Śrīdhar is one of many pastimes. There are other incidents, especially at the time of Treitanya Mahprabhu’s full manifesting his identity to the Vaishnavas. At this point we can see that Śrīdhar was not aware of Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s identity, even though Caitanya Mahāprabhu would hint, oh, I am a cowherd boy, and also I am the source of the Gaṅgā. But because Śrīdhar was covered by the Lord’s Yoga Māyā, he was not able to understand these things. So there are these two energies that we’re familiar with. Mahamaya and Yoga Māyā. Sometimes we’re familiar more with one than with the other.

So the effect of this Mahamaya, that is to actually to keep us in illusion. And that illusion is that we identify ourselves as being something else other than servants of the Lord. But there’s another type of illusion which also works for the service of the Lord, and that is Yoga Māyā. That Yoga Māyā is such that devotees may directly associate with their Lord, but at the same time they’re not aware of actually his eternal identity. For instance, the worshippers of Lord Vishnu, they are aware of Lord Vishnu’s position as the supreme personality of Godhead. And therefore they worship him in a type of in servitude. But we see the example of, for instance, Satchi Mata. She’s simply considering that Nimāi Pandit is her little, or Nima is her little boy.

And even when someone tries to explain to her Khor Jagannath Mishra in a dream, he has a dream, and some effulgent personality. Who could that effulgent personality be? Some demigod is coming and telling him, don’t you know, Misha, that your son is the supreme Lord? You cannot punish him, you cannot beat him, you cannot threaten him like this. But Jagannath Mishra doesn’t understand these things, whatever he may be. He may be Lord Vishnu, but to me he’s my son, and it is my duty to discipline him. So why is this type of relationship taking place? Why is it that actually a devotee who is the topmost pinnacle of spiritual purity is in a position of apparent ignorance of the position of the Lord? Because it makes for a much more confidential and intimate relationship.

It makes for a relationship based on love, not on a relationship based on or on reverence. And Kṛṣṇa himself is more attracted by this loving relationship than he is by actually any type of prayers offered in veneration by worship, which is done with a knowledge of his opulence, supremacy, and transcendental position as the supreme personality of Godhead. And this is the characteristic feature of the inhabitants of Vrindavandam. And that they don’t know Kṛṣṇa’s position as the Supreme Lord. Or even when they do, then it is actually a subordinate feature. The main feature of their relationship is simply that Kṛṣṇa is my son, Kṛṣṇa is my friend, Kṛṣṇa is my lover, like that. And in that relationship they have a very intimate, loving relationship with Kṛṣṇa. And that loving relationship attracts Kṛṣṇa more than the relationship of our puros.

So here same thing, Śrīdhar, he’s not aware of the Lord’s position, but the relationship is much more attractive to the Lord. Later, Caitanya Mahāprabhu showed the position of Śrīdhar and other pastimes. Specifically, during the kīrtana, Shaitanya Mahprabhu came here with kīrtana party. So Śrīdhar then would again receive all the vaiavas. He would give them place to rest, give them something to eat, some water. And then from here they would then continue back and go back to Yogkit or go back to Caitanya Mahprabhu’s home. So when Caitanya Mahāprabhu came here one occasion, just like we are when we’re going out chanting during the day, we’re very thirsty. And practically speaking, if we can get some water, we drink it immediately. That is why devotees should be very careful of what they drink.

Sometimes we don’t think about what it is that we’re drinking because we’re so thirsty. So Caitanya Mahprabhu was also in that position after all day, Kīrtana. Finally he came here and he wanted something to drink. So he asked Śrīra, get me something to drink. So Śrīra immediately went in, but he didn’t have time. Caitanya Mahapu looked around, and at the foot of the doorway, Siddhaj doorway, there was a metal container. When people go into a home, then usually they wash their feet. Walking around barefoot all day long, and feet are dirty. So before going inside, foot should be washed. So this container of water was there for washing the feet. Caitanya Mahāprabhu saw that container and saw there was water in it. Immediately he took it up and he started drinking it. And as he was drinking it, then Śrīdhar came out.

And when he saw it, oh, he became so alarmed. This is the water, and this is the container that I wash my feet with. And the supreme personality of Goddard is drinking out of this. So immediately he grabbed Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s hand and tried to stop him. But Lord Caitanya was both thirsty, but simultaneously he also had a great thirst, not just for the water, but actually for the mercy or the remnants of his own devotee. Caitanya Mahapubhu is so kind, and he’s actually such a compassionate Lord that he shows that these things which are actually the extraordinary attributes of Vaiavas. Bhakta Padaduli, Bhakta Pada Jal, Bhakta Bhumti, Three things. So it’s Bhakta Padaduli, the dust from the feet of devotees, the water which is washing the feet of devotees and Bhakta Bhungti and the remnants of foodstuffs which devotees have eaten.

These are very relishable things. And devotees take great pleasure. They make any kind of plans they can in order to relish these things. And Caitanya Mahaprabhuhi also did the same thing. So while Śrīra was thinking, oh, now I will definitely go to hell for this offense. But Caitanya Mahāprabhu was relishing, oh, what nice water. I am actually drinking even out of this container. So this is the loving exchange between Caitanya Mahāprabhu and his associates. On many occasions we read in Caitanya Caitamrita how lo Chaitanya Sat, for instance of Vasudev Datta, that my body and soul belong to Vasudev Datta and he can just sell me in the marketplace wherever he likes. The Lord Caitanya isn’t actually speaking like that. By developing love for the Lord, actually Kṛṣṇa becomes the property of the devotee and that devotee becomes the controller of the supreme personality of Godhead.

Not possible to do by yoga by chance, chanting of mantras, great austerities becoming learned. But if somehow or another we can learn how to actually awaken our dormant love for the Lord, then that love will Kṛṣṇa Karshani. It will attract Kṛṣṇa. It will draw Kṛṣṇa. It is such an irresistible thing that Kṛṣṇa can actually not resist it. Neither Chaitanya Mahāprabhu and they become actually the property Jita Ajita, they become conquered. Although Kṛṣṇa is unconquerable, Caitanya Mahapra was unconquerable, but still he can be conquered by the love of his servants. We have a little while. We can’t wait too long because once it gets dark it will be dangerous walking back and mosquitoes. I hope everyone has their repellent. But Lok Nat Maharaj is going to speak a few words and then we will make our way back from for the pandal. This evening.

I just wanted to relate another brief pastime which by hearing that pastime we realized how intimate relationship existed between Kolevich’s reader and Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. I thought Śrī Ramara was about to talk about that just now. But he didn’t do that. Let me see whether he.

Left him for you.

So you all remember Śrīdhar Angan. Angan refers to the courtyard. This is also Angan of the courtyard of Kolevich Śrīdhar. But earlier where Śrīram spoke this morning. That was Śrīdharangan. At that Śrīdharangan place. Chaitanya Mahāprabhu revealed Mahaprakash. For 21 hours it was another world altogether. And for first time Chaitanya Mahāprabhu came out as God, the supreme personality of Godhead. Everyone was there, whole hall full of devotees and Lord was relating with every single person there. Every single person had simultaneously dialogue going on with the Lord. And everyone thought that I am the only person who is talking with Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. Like those Gopīs of Vrindavan. They would think Kṛṣṇa is only with me and he’s dancing with me and talking with me and reciprocating with me.

So likewise those pastimes as Śrīva Sangan went on for 21 hours Chaitanya Mahāprabhu noticed that Kolevacha Śrīdhar was not present. He remembered and he made a special request that go get Kolevich’s Frida. And immediately some big men, some rich men, they came to this place. Otherwise they would not come thinking who is Kolavaja Śrīdhar? He’s just a poor person.

He.

He just sells banana leaves and banana cups. But we have big shops, we sell jewelry or we sell cloth, we sell this, we sell that and this Kolav Jaśrīda, he just sells banana leaves. He’s just poor person. So they would not come around or not have so much relationship. But now Jathan and Mahabhar had ordered to go get Kolavi’s freezer. So they all had to come. And Kolavaja Śrīdhar was reluctant. And he was wondering why would Lord Chaitanya Mahāprabhu send such a special instruction and these big people coming to get me. So ultimately they had to carry. They carried Kolavicha’s freezer. They made a Palanquin and Kolowiczhe 3 there was poor Brahmin was sitting in a palanquin. And all these big rich men, they’re carrying Kalavacha Śrīdhar, Śrīvas Angan. So this is one little pastime. So we realized how intimate was Kolavacha Śrīdhar.

And Lord remembered him in the midst of all this pastimes. And he was missing him and said, go get him. So they came and they brought him over to Śrīvas Angan so that.

It.
