The Life of Tulasī Devī

(Disclaimer: The following is a machine-generated transcript and may contain errors or inaccuracies. It will be reviewed and verified against the original audio soon.)

The following is an Evening Address given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on April 24, 1992 – in Muscat, Oman.

To specialize, we have to focus. Little Bhakti, little Karma, little Gyana, little this, little that. We have to focus. If we concentrate on devotion, we will get immediate result very quickly that we are seeing. I am coming here to Muscat on intervals. But I see after a few months, those who start, they come to me and say, so much change I am experiencing in my life. In two months, in three months, husband and wife, children, they’re coming and saying, how much change by chanting. This is not just some theory or some kind of ideology. It’s a practical science. You, you practice it, you get the effect. You take the medicine, you feel healthy. So don’t mind. I am only being urgent because life is urgent. We don’t know how long we’re going to live. We don’t know what the future holds.

Every moment we are not engaging ourselves in devotion to the Lord. We are actually wasting valuable time. Sometimes we think, I have to solve my other problems. Then I will do devotion to Kṛṣṇa. Let me take care of my economic problem. Let me take care of my family problem. Let me take care of my health problem. We may never take care of those problems. Why we are having problems in the first place is because of our previous karmas. Because we forgot to do devotion to Kṛṣṇa. Then now we have opportunity. We should do Bhakti now. Atatha Brahmajikyasa, make inquiry now. Subhasyam Sigram. We should do today what is auspicious, what is inauspicious. Put it off till tomorrow. So because of the urgency, that’s the only reason why I am bringing up these points.

That every one of you has the potential to become completely perfected yogis. Bhakti yogis. To achieve all the perfection in life very easily by practicing these principles of Bhakti Yoga. You don’t have to take sannyas. You don’t have to change where you are. Wherever you are, you simply practice these principles. Arjuna was Grihasta. He achieved perfection. Dipra Sudhaama was Grihastha. He achieved perfection. Prahlad Maharaj was Grihasta. Dhruva was Grihasta. But they all achieved perfection by Bhakti. So Bhakti Yoga is so powerful even here. While you’re doing your occupation, while you’re accountants, sales, engineers, whatever you might be, marketing, accounting and so on, simply side by side, you do devotion and you can achieve this highest blessing in life. And that is the real thing.

When you go back to wherever you’re going, whenever you leave this world, you will be still carrying that but wealth with you. The wealth of devotion that will take you right back to home, back to Godhead. That wealth you will never lose.

Thank you very much, Hare Kṛṣṇa. I can’t say about other groups what they are giving or not giving. But if you are getting something from Kṛṣṇa consciousness, that’s what we’re very happy about. That’s only what we are doing that our Guru told us that if you are grateful for anything I have given you, if you think that something I have given you is valuable and you want to repay that debt, the way you can repay me is by giving this to others. So the only reason we are giving this to others is simply out of love. The love that we have received from our Guru that we want to pay back to him. He said, you pay back to me. You give this love to others. So actually getting free of birth and death is not difficult. My devotional service is very easy.

There is a list of the problems. Much greater blessing than that is to actually get devotion. Say you get free from birth and death, then where are you? But you see, Godhead is a big place. You know, Just like somebody struggling to get india, they want to get job in the Gulf. Once they get in the Gulf, then they have to see what job they have. Promotion, contract, renewal, so many other things. Just getting here is one thing. Once you get out of the material world and you’re in spiritual world, what you will do then? Spiritual world. There’s Brahma, Jyoti, there’s spiritual planets. Unless you have Bhakti, you won’t go to the spiritual planets. You will end up in the Jyoti. So that’s also another problem. In the Jyoti, one doesn’t stay forever. Again, you can fall down from the Jyoti.

But if you have devotion automatically when you leave this world, even while you’re living in this world, if someone has devotion, he’s as good as liberated. You become free of all the karmas even in this lifetime by engaging in devotion with thought, word and deed. And when you leave this world, you continue in the spiritual world. You already have developed your relationship. You continue on. There’s no death as such for the devotee. Devotee doesn’t experience death like that. It explains in Bhagavat, when Nārada died, before he became Nārada, there was no pain, no suffering. It was a lightning flash. He looked and saw his human body was lying. And he had the Narad body, he had the spiritual body. There are no pain, no suffering. And since that time he didn’t have to die anymore.

He’s got his spiritual body just like God, Angelic Satchitananda body. But for the materialist, when we leave the body, it’s a very big shock where we will go? What’s the future? What’s our next birthday? So if we develop our spiritual consciousness automatically, we get the spiritual body to serve the Lord. So that’s why devotion is more important even than getting free from birth and death. Devotion to Kṛṣṇa, Dharma, Artha Kama and Moksha are the four Purush Arthas. So as I just explained, Moksha itself is not complete. That from Moksha we can again fall down. That the real ultimate perfection is to have pure devotion to Kṛṣṇa. When you have pure Vishnu Bhakti or Kṛṣṇa Bhakti, then from that position you never fall down. Bhaktamay Bhakta Pranashati. He said my devotee never perishes.

So if someone presents the other things as ultimate, this is not the full picture. Therefore we’re getting the incorrect picture. Therefore for the devotees, they feel cheated as someone offers them Artha Kama moksha. They want ultimate blessing of pure devotion which includes all the other things. Other things are automatically included within Bhakti to Kṛṣṇa. That’s what the Shastras say that in the age of Kali there’s no other alternative other than chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa Mah Mantra. There’s no better alternative. There may be other alternative, but they are not comparable. They are not guaranteed success systems. In the Brihat Naradiya Purāṇa I quoted that verse also Nakali Santana Upanishad. It states Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Ka Hare Hare Ram Hari Ram Ram Hari Hare. Nata Paratha Upaya Sarva Vede Sudhirshyatek that Kalikal Masha Nashanam. These 16 names destroy the Kalmash.

The contamination of Kaliug Nata Parata Upaya. There’s no Para Upaya. There’s no better Upaya. This is the supreme method of this age. Sarva Vedaeshu Drishyati is found in all the Vedas, All the gurus, anyone, whether even the Nirvi Seshwaratis, they also will accept that the process of worshipping Govinda and chanting the Sankirtanam is the easiest and most ideal process for this age. So only thing is that Hare Kṛṣṇa movement, Kṛṣṇa consciousness. We are simply focusing on this method because this is the most highly recommended. So why should we observe any other method and waste time or divert energy? And by practicing this we Are seeing people can easily get results and are getting. Any other question Ladies? Next program.

Would like to thank Śrīla Acharypath for taking so much trouble and time to enlighten us. We invite everyone to come regularly for our programs. We have every Friday at Albank Alali alumani flat number 701 at 5.15pm every Friday Sundia Aartri then Bhagavad Gītā class Prasadam. We also have on all the other days, but particularly everyone is free on Friday. So please come on the Fridays. On Tuesdays at the temple at 7:30. Then for children we have the program on Thursdays 4 to 7 where children can have. There are storytelling, singing of bhajans then drawing games and so on. So parents can leave the children at 4 o’ clock when they’re going to the office. The fathers can leave the children at our house and pick them up again at 7 o’. Clock. So we invite everyone to please send the children for this program.

Now you can come up and offer your obeisances to Śrīlacharipad.

It. The whole town, the whole Navajo Māyāpur. They became very indignant that the devotees were being treated like that. They became to realize that actually this is our own temple. The other Hindus, they began to consider that it’s due to our negligence and protection that the Mohammedans attacked the temple. And normally we don’t have any bad dealings with the Mahabhar. It was all just because the political leader agītāted them and told them they would just so much if you do it and we’re back to you. So then in the meantime, also the American Consulate, French Consulate, British Consulate, Canadian Consulate, so many different nationals were there. They were all pounding Anakin hit papers all over the world.

And the prime minister immediately took the investigation of the case out of the state government and put it into the hand of the central government, the FBI of India. That way there would be a fair investigation. And so that changed everything because the fair investigation were attacked. But they made a case against us that we came out of the temple. They said that their case is a Vishnu patching out of the temple. And there were innocent villagers walking by. And he said and then they were shot just as they were walking by. Of course we had photographs of inside the temple. They had broken the temple bell. They had busted the whole lawn. They had broken the outer door to the temple. They had your name. We didn’t do that. Somebody did it.

So the police, when they came, it was so obvious that there was a huge war inside the Temple ground that they immediately gave their report to the judge that they should be released. But then the communists again, the government at that time they had well, it’s not safe for them to be used. They should be kept in jail for their own safety. Further then it was Jala and Pūrṇimā coming up. So we organized a little procession. All the local villages rallied around us and 25,000 people came. And then we had a permit for a little parade for 1200. We put 25,000. The police said don’t put more than 1200 if we don’t have that many police to cover it. If we put more we will have to put too many. We don’t have that.

So then we marched up to the Chankazi Samadhi, you can imagine why, and marched through the village. And then we had the big speeches there. The police also coming with us. But. But when the anti party saw that we had so much popular support they just withered away. It wasn’t the politicians, they didn’t want to get more votes than what they even get. So then all of a sudden things started to change. And after that were able to get Śrīla Vishnuka out of the jail. And then once the case got to court then it went in our favor. And finally the government after they kept stalling it, but everything was in our favor. Finally the communist chief minister himself requested that just for the sake of communal peace that allow me to withdraw the cases again.

Which after two years of this, you know, falling in the course of ancient times and ultimately was agreed upon. From this we can see that of course how Śrī Vishnu Pad, you know, in this extreme difficult situation how he discontinued, showed the most discrimination and high quality which of course moved everyone. And after that even the communist leader who had done all those things came over and personally apologized to him. He had threatened at the height of it that we’re going to turn that long building into animal house. He went into Mahal village, going to turn it into animal hospital and a Mohammedan school. Then he came back and he apologized. I never said that he said. What I said was that if you make a hospital I will give you land. And I said that we have very nice schools.

The Gorilla coast school is very nice. Someone misquoted me. They did a complete turnaround. So I questioned the Prabhupāda. He said that they really wanted to get me. But Kṛṣṇa was kindly saved me and he was crying when he was thinking how was enduring all those great trials on behalf of him. I was in complete anxiety, running around trying to get him out. Sometimes a devotee goes through different trials, goes to different difficulties. But by the mercy of Lord Chaitanya, by the mercy of the previous Acharya, mercy of the vice, knowledge, one crosses over all the obstacles, nothing can stop the movement of Kṛṣṇa. Mahāprabhu Śrīla Prabhupāda has very clearly explained to us that this international society for Kṛṣṇa Consciousness is the branch of Lord Chaitanya Transcendental Tree and there will always be it.

(Side B of the Cassette)

But Lord Shiva shot wonderful arrows at them and split them all apart. Shanka Chuda next slide seized his mace and accompanied by a massive army charged Lord Shiva with the intention of destroying him. However, Lord Shiva split the mace, making the Danava furious. The demon then seized a spear that to the enemy blazed unbearably. As he neared Lord Shiva, the latter hit him in the chest with his trident. Then a huge valorous being came out of the demon’s chest and said, stand by. Lord Shiva laughed loudly and with his sword cut off the fearsome head that was emerging and it fell to the ground, Spreading her mouth wide open. Collie and angrily consumed countless demons, crushing their heads with her fierce fangs. The enraged Kshetrapala consumed many other demons and Lord Shiva shot missiles at some and killed them. Others were just wounded.

Virabhadra and Nandishvar destroyed many other demons. Thus a major portion of Shankar Chuda’s army was killed while many of his terrified troops cowardly flesh the battlefield. But Shankar Chuda stood firm and said to Lord Shiva, I am here ready to fight with you. Come on. So what if many of my men have been killed? Fight me face to face. Shankar Chuda threw mystic missiles at Lord Shiva. He also, like a cloud pouring rain, showered arrows on him. He used different kinds of illusory methods that were invisible and bewildering to the demigods and Lord Shiva’s followers. Seeing this, Lord Shiva released his supernatural Maheshvara missiles and these quickly destroyed the illusions, divesting them of their brilliance. Then the powerful Lord Shiva said suddenly grabbed his trident. A trident that could not be withstood even by great persons. So as to slay Shanka Chuda.

But to stop him, an unembodied heavenly voice boomed. Oh Shiva, do not throw the trident. Now listen to this request. There is no doubt that you are able to destroy the universe in a second. So what would be the difficulty in destroying this one? Danaba? Shankar Chuda, still you should not ignore the rules of the Vedas, O Great one. Rather make them truthful and fruitful. Understand that Lord Brahma has stated that as long as Shankar Chuda wears the armor of Lord Vishnu, namely the amulet around his neck and as long as his wife maintains her marital faithfulness, he can neither die nor grow old. He is under these boons. Therefore, please make these boons truthful by not violating them. Lord Shiva replied, so be it. At that moment, Lord Shiva desired to see Lord Vishnu. And so Lord Vishnu appeared there.

Lord Shiva told him what he desired And Lord Vishnu agreed to help him. So, dressed as an aged Brahmin, Lord Vishnu, foremost in mystic power, approached Shankar Chuda and requested.

Oh King of the Danavish, please grant my request. You give away in charity all kinds of wealth and riches. So please grant me what I desire. I am a quiet, peaceful, aged Brahmin. I am very hungry and thirsty. But first you make your promise and then I will tell you what I want.

The king, with a kind face and a pleasing eye swore to him that he would give him whatever he asked for. So the Brahmin said affectionately, I would.

Like your amulet.

Shankar Chuda, a well wisher of the Brahmins who spoke the truth thus handed over to the disguised Lord Vishnu his divine amulet. Then Lord Vishnu assumed the form of Shankar Chuda and went to Tulsi Devī’s pal. When he approached the entrance, he created the appearance of a victory homecoming causing others to beat their drums and to shout victory. Tulsi Davy was awakened from sleep. On hearing the sounds, the chaste woman was ecstatic. She eagerly peeped through the windows onto the road. When she realized that her husband had returned, she observed all auspicious rites and offered cash gifts to the Brahmins. Then she beautified herself. Lord Vishnu went to Tulsi’s apartment. When Tulsi saw the Lord and thought he was her husband, she was gladdened. She bathed him, feet, offered obeisances to him and sobbed.

Then she had him sit on the jeweled throne and handed him the auspicious betel leaf that had been made fragrant with camphor.

She said, today my life has become happy for my beloved who went to fight has now returned home drinking him.

In with wide eyes and a smiling face. Tulsi Davies sweetly asked him about the events of the battle.

My lord, how did you do in the battle with Lord Shiva? He is the protector of the demigods and the annihilator of countless universes. You have returned cheerfully after defeating the great lord. But how did you beat him? Tell me all about it.

Lord Vishnu laughed and said sweetly. When I reached the battlefield, there was a terrible clamor. A big battle then followed. The demigods fought the demons and each side was eager for victory. The demigods defeated the demons. But then I fought the powerful demigods. Those whom I defeated sought shelter of Lord Shiva. Then Lord Shiva to help them, fought me for a long time. My dear wife, Lord Shiva and I fought continuously for a year. All the demons were killed. Then Lord Brahma made us agree to Peace. Thus, at Lord Brahma’s order the powers of authority were reassigned to the demigods. So I have come home and Lord Shiva has gone to Shiva Loka. All have returned to health and normalcy. Thus the trouble has ended, Lord. This Vishnu then lay down on the bed with Tulsi Devī and became close with her.

At this time on the battlefield King Shankar Chuda approached Lord Shiva. When without his armor the latter seized his blazing trident to slay the demon. The trident’s name was Vijaya and it was as bright as a hundred summer suns. The front of it was presided over by Lord Nrya the middle by Lord Brahma the root by Lord Shiva and the edge. By time it was bright like the fire of devastation at the end of the world. Dauntless, irresistible, fixed and destructive in its aim. In brilliance it equaled the Sudarshan chakra and it was the topmost of all weapons. No one but Lord Vishnu or Lord Shiva could wield it and all but them were afraid of it. The trident was 14,000 cubits long and 100 cubits wide. One could not tell from where and how it proceeded.

By its own will, this trident could destroy all the worlds. Lord Shiva raised the trident high, aimed and hurled it at Shankar Chuda. Seeing it coming, the demon king dropped his bow and arrows collected his mind, sat down in a yoga posture and meditated on the lotus spirit feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa. With great devotion the trident whirled around Shankar Chuda’s head for a while. Then at Lord Shiva’s command it smashed into the demon’s head and burned him and his chariot to ashes. Thereafter the trident returned to Lord Shiva and then left for the airways at the speed of the mind and finally returned with force and gladness to Lord Narayan. In the heavens the celestials beat their drums, the Gandharvas and Kinnaras sang, the sages and demigods chanted eulogies and all the damsels danced.

Flowers continuously rained down upon Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, Brahma, Indra and other notables praised him. Out of Lord Shiva tossed the demon’s bones into the sea and these bones became transformed into all the conches in the world. They are always considered very holy and favorable in the worship of the demigods. The water in the conch is also considered very sacred and satisfying to the demigods. As sacred as the water in any holy river. It can be offered to all the demigods but not to Lord Shiva. Wherever the conch is blown, Lakshmi dwells there with great delight. If one bathes with the Conch water. This is equivalent to bathing in all the holy rivers. Wherever the conch is placed, Lord Hadi and Goddess Lakshmi live there and all inauspicious things disappear from that place.

However, wherever the females and Shudras blow the conch, Goddess Lakshmi becomes annoyed and out of fear travels to other places. Lord Shiva then mounted his bull carrier and with all his followers returned to his own residence. All the demigods also returned to their abode with great joy. Before leaving, Lord Shiva favored Shankar Chuda by releasing him from his curse. And thus he regained his original form as the cowherd boy Sudama. Adorned with jewels, holding a flute, mounted on a divine chariot and surrounded by numerous cowherd boys from Goloka, Vrindavan Shankar Chuda then flew to the spiritual sky Goloka, which is full of devotees of Lord Kṛṣṇa who have various transcendental relationships with him. When Sudama saw Rti, Rādhārāṇī and Śrī Kṛṣṇa, he bowed down to their lotus feet with devotion.

Seeing him, the divine couple were filled with love for him and with kind faces and joyful eyes, lifted him up and took him on their laps. Meanwhile, at the palace, Tulsi Devī was still lying on the bed with Lord Vishnu who was still disguised as Shankar Chuda. She suddenly realized that there was a distinct difference in the way her husband had expressed his affection to her in the past from the way he had just expressed it. This made her suspicious and she began to wonder whether the man with whom she had just been intimate was really her husband. Then, not feeling the same happiness, affection and attraction, she looked at him distrustfully and said, you’re.

You’re not.

Realizing in the core of her heart that he was not her husband, she asked, who.

Who are you? Yes, who are you? I want to know immediately, for I know you have deceived me to enjoy me. You have outraged my modesty. For this I. I shall curse you.

Lord Vishnu then assumed his own true beautiful form. Tulsi saw the Lord of the demigods before her. His complexion was deep blue like fresh rain clouds. His eyes were like autumnal lotuses and he was decked with jewels and ornaments. His smiling face looked very gracious and he wore a yellow robe. Seeing Vasudeva’s handsome form, Tulsi fainted. A few moments later she regained consciousness.

And said, O Lord, you are like a stone. You are merciless. You violated my chastity by deception and by this means you have killed my husband. O Lord, you are merciless. Yes, your heart. Your heart is like a Stone. Therefore I curse you to become a stone. Those who call you holy are doubtlessly wrong. Your devotee committed no offense. And yet for the sake of others, you killed him.

Why?

Why? Why?

Seeing her so upset, Narayan, who is an ocean of mercy tried to console her according to Dharmica rules. He said, oh exalted one. You performed austerities for a long time to get me as your husband. And Shankar Chuda also performed austerities for a long time to get you as his wife. By that austerity, he fulfilled his wish. It was then necessary for me to fulfill your wish.

Wish.

For this reason, I did what I did. Now leave your earthly body and assume a spiritual body and be married to me. Be like Lakshmi. Your body will become a famous river known as Gandhi. A virtuous, pure and transparent river. In this holy land of India. Your hairs will be transformed into holy trees. And since the trees will be born of you, they will be known as Tulsi trees. All the residents of the three worlds will perform worship with the leaves and flowers of this tree. Thus you Tulsi will reign as the best among trees and flowers.

Foreign.

The sanctifying Tulsi tree will grow in Goloka on the coast of the Viraja river, on the Rastan site, in the forests of Vrindavan, Bandira, Champaka, Chandana and in the groves of Madadi, Ketiki, Kunda, Malika and Malati. You will live in sacred places and bestow the highest religious merit. All the holy spots will converge and reside at the root of the Tulsi tree. And thus spiritual merits will accrue to all. O fair one. All the demigods and I will wait there to gather the falling Tulsi leaves. Whoever will be moistened or anointed with the water that has been sanctified by Tulsi leaves will reap the benefits of having bathed in all the sacred rivers and performed all kinds of sacrifices. Lord Huddy will not be as pleased with the gift of a thousand jars of honey as with one Tulsi leaf.

Offering one such leaf as a gift will bring the same reward obtained by offering millions of cows. If at the time of death one drinks or gets the Tulsi leaf water, one will be freed of all his sins and proceed to Vaikuṇṭha. Whoever drinks the Tulsi leaf water daily will be redeemed in his lifetime and receive the benefit of a dip in the Ganges. Whoever plucks a Tulsi leaf, keeps it on his person and then leaves his body in a holy place will go to Vishnu Loka. Anyone who worships me with this leaf daily will reap the blessings of a hundred thousand horse sacrifices. Anyone who leaves his body holding a tulsi leaf in his hands will be saved from all sins. Anyone who wears a necklace composed of tulsi wood will surely at every step get the reward of a horse sacrifice.

Whoever breaks his promise while holding the tulsi leaf will go to the Kala Sutra hell for as long as the sun and moon last. Anyone who gives false evidence in the presence of the Tulsi leaf will go to the Kumbipaka hell for as long as the lifespans of 14 Indras. Whoever at the time of death drinks or gets a little Tulsi leaf water will certainly proceed to Vaikunta, leaving in a jeweled airplane. Lord Huddy will decapitate that person who on the day of the new moon or the full moon, or on the 12th or last day of the lunar month, or after being anointed with oil just before taking a bath, or at noon, night, daybreak or sundown, or in a state of impurity, or in one’s night dress will come, cull or pluck the tulsi leaf. O chaste one.

Even if the tulsi leaf is kept for three nights and becomes dry, it can still be employed in connection with funeral ceremonies, vows, gifts, consecration of temples and the worship of demigods. If tulsi leaves that were offered to Lord Vishnu have fallen on the ground or on water are then properly washed, they may still be used for other sacred purposes. You will always be the presiding deity of the Tulsi plant here on earth, and at the same time, you will always sport with Śrī Kṛṣṇa in solitude. In Goloka, you will also be the presiding deity of the Gandhiki river and thereby shower India with religious merit. You will further be the wife of the ocean of salt which is my partial expansion. O chaste Goddess, you will always remain personally by my side and enjoy my company as Lakshmi does.

As for me, by your curse I will become a stone and remain close to the bank of the Gandhiki river at Muktinath village in the country of Nepal. The mountain from which the stones fall will be known as Annapurna. Millions of Vajrakita worms with their sharp teeth will make convolutions or rings in the stones there representing me. These will be known as Shalagrams or sacred stones. Those stones which have one entrance hole, four rings, are marked with a garland of wild flowers and look like A fresh rain cloud will be known as Lakshmi Narayan Murtis or forms. Those stones that have one entrance hole. Four rings look like fresh rain clouds but have no garland mark will be called Lakshmi Jinardan chakras.

Those that have two entrance holes, Four rings are impressed with the marks of cow hooves but have no garland mark will be called Ragunath chakras. Those that are very small have two rings, look like fresh rain clouds but have no garland mark will be called V Chakras. They shall be auspicious to householders. Those stones that are very small have two rings and a garland mark will be called Śrīdhar Chakras. They will bring prosperity to householders. Those stones that are large, circular have two rings but no garland mark will be known as Damodar Chakras. Those that are medium large have two rings, have the marks of arrows and quivers will be known as Rana Ram chakras.

Those that are medium sized have seven rings and have the marks of an umbrella and ornaments will be called Raja Rajeshvara or King of Kings Chakras and give rise prosperity to the people. Those that are large have 14 wheels and look like fresh rain clouds will be called Ananta Chakras. They will bestow the fourfold fruits, Arta Kama, Dharma and Moksha or wealth, pleasure, righteousness and liberation. Those that are spherical, beautiful, medium large have two rings, look like rain clouds and are marked with cow hooves will be called Marusudana chakras. Those that have one ring will be called Sudarshan chakras. Those that have their rings hidden will be called Gadhaar chakras. Those that have two rings and the face of a horse will be called Hyagrivas. Those that have two rings, their mouths very wide and extended and look very terrifying will be called Nirsingas.

They will bestow detachment on their worshipers. Those that have two rings, extended mouths and garland marks will be called Lakshmi Nirsinghas. They will bestow blessings on the householders who worship them. Those that have near their doors two rings that are of equal size and beautiful with manifested marks will be known as Vasudevas. They will fulfill all desires. Those that have a thin ring look like fresh rain clouds and have many fine holes within their wide gaping facets will be called Pradyumnas. They will give happiness to all householders. Those whose rings are united and whose backs are capacious will be called Sankarshans. They will always bestow happiness to householders. Those that look yellow, round and very beautiful will be known as aniruddhas, they also will give happiness to householders.

Wherever there are shalogram stones, Lord Hadi himself exists, and wherever Lord had is, Goddess Lakshmi and all the holy places also exist. By worshipping the Shalagram Sila, one destroys the sin of having killed a Brahman and any other type of s. By worshipping Shalagram. Stones of the following shapes the following effects take place. If the stone looks like an umbrella, one may obtain a kingdom. If the stone looks round, great prosperity if it is cart shaped miseries if its ends are spear shaped, death if its facets are distorted poverty if it is light brown evils and afflictions. If its rings look broken diseases if its rings are split into fragments, certain death. If one observes vows, offers gifts, consecrates a temple, performs shraddha or funeral ceremonies, or worships the demigods. Before the Shalagram Sila, all these acts become highly exalted. Sam.
