The following is a lecture on Navadvīpa-maṇḍala Parikramā given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on March 5, 1982 – in Śrī Māyāpur, India.
Everybody can be seated and we can see what the position is. We’re going to move. We’re also going to do that just for the time being. If we can sit for a second. If you can’t sit, then we will do it right now. There is place on the side of the temple. All you have to do is within hearing distance. Our program, we’re going to just describe this place first and then after that everyone can pass by the daily and take their dash off. And we’re going to go into the courtyard of our house and have a P there and then have a B class and then take P. Very careful. Don’t push please. This is an Iskan Temple, 500 years old. Not the temple but the deities. They were installed practically as self manifest deities.
Actually 500 years ago this is the island of Simantadi, the second island, the first island of Navadurg Dam, the island of herring. And here 500 years ago is not the only pastime. But long while ago, many thousands of years ago, there was a great demon called Raktor Bahu who attacked the residents of Purī. He was known as Rector Bahu or Bloody arm is considered drink, the blood of the people who was a Asura. So the Pujaris were a little bit afraid that Jagannath stood. So they took Jagannath here to Mahdru thousands of years ago until the Raktabad was killed by one empowered Eshatriya. Thereafter Jagannath returned back to Purī. So why Jagannath came here is this is another one of the chants in many past times that in my upward Dom all the pastimes of the Lord are to perform.
And the Lord, he likes to come here and visit his holy Dom. So every time the Lord incarnates, generally he’s also stopping. One time in our But Balaam, he came with him half a mile of here by the side of the river. What he was doing is pure holy places. And he killed the Mahasir Dimanish. There’s still a pond and a field called a Mayalaramat or the place where the Mahasir demon was killed. Even the local people don’t know what is the significance of that name. But what did he then tackle by researching the Purāṇas and finding that lamb is named as Māyā. He put the two together and knew that this was the place that Balaram had killed the Mayasir of Duma. Exact location indeed. It happened in Baghdad. Then he found it in this way and this way.
Our previous Acharyas have already excavated most of the last holy places. So this is called as a non different Jagannath Purī. Because here Jagannath came and he was always eternally manifesting himself. Five hundred years ago, one Brahmin was blind, wanted to go to see Caitanya Mahāprabhu or go to had his association and Chagana Purī. But although he requested all the Bengali devotees to take and no one would take him because he was blind and who wanted to walk with a blind man for 500km. So when no one would take him, he was crying in front of Jagannath, appeared to in a dream and told him that if he goes to the Ganges, takes his bag there you will find there will be three or one huge log. And from that log he can go to a particular leper carpenter who will carve the deities.
So the next morning Jagushkhan ruled in abandoned. He went down. He went down to the Ganges and while bathing he felt the wood touching his body. He called all the villagers and listed out the huge mud. He went to the leper, had him take it to this leper. Kai permitted me requested in the car of the deities of judge him. All the leper refused. His hands were already eaten away with pus and leprosy. So he said, how can I call the Jagannath deity? I am polluted, I am impure. I really help if the parts of my body those are the Jagannath deity. The name Joseph. This is the order of the Lord in my dream. I take the full responsibility. But if you don’t do it, are you willing to take the responsibility of disobeying the Lord? So don’t listen.
He was able to convince the leper. He carved the deities while he was carving. Every time he would hit his chisel, blood was coming, puss was coming. It was so excruciating, painful. But he took it off as his life worked and he had to do this. So he finally completed these Jagannath deities that we see here today. The day they were completed, his leprosy was also finished. He was completely cured like that. There are literally hundreds of miracles that are connected with these deities. Even local Mohammedans come here and offer daily fruit and flowers to get the special favor of his Jagannath deity. I have already discussed many of the pastimes. One of the more recent pastimes was someone who stole some of the Jagannath’s cement. And then after that he met with an accident where all of his bones were broken.
After that, the cement suddenly came back to Jagannath. And then since then we haven’t had any difficulty. Actually, we’re not able to protect Jagannath. But Jagannath does actually our duty. But he’s so kind that he always shows us that we have to be very devoted and very sincere in our service to him. So we can all pray actually to the Jagannath deities which have so kindly appeared to the previous sevite or Pujari in his dreams, that these worship should be given to Iskcon. Śrīla Bot. According to Rameshwar, Swami had predicted that the temples in Māyāpur would gradually be managed and developed by iskcon. So this is the first of that stage by stage program for redeveloping the whole Māyāpur. Dhamma Ashley Zaganath was worshipped very wonderfully by Ravindra and by his son and grandson and his descendants.
But gradually, by the effect of time, they started to reduce the pūjā from, you know, eight altars a day to six to four, three, two, one. Then it came down to 11, offering once on every kind of soup. Then it came once every pūrṇimā. Then it finally came on every snar Yātrā. They were doing pūjā and one founder snarl Yatir roll around and they forgot to do their worship. And this and this temple at that time was surrounded by village called Raja Felt. Very big village. But if you look around here, you don’t see any village.
But if you look in the ancient maps, you see Rajapur had hundreds of people that about 150 years ago when the pūjā finally stopped after 400 or 350 years, then suddenly, just in this village of Rajapur, there was an intense plague and everyone was killed to the last man because they neglected their duty to the deity. Prabhupāda told us that deity at a lot is very serious. We invite Kṛṣṇa. We have responsibility to Kṛṣṇa. If we fail to actually serve him and finally we just completely neglect him. That’s a very great offense to Kṛṣṇa. So we can see that what happened to the residents of deity offenses. So thereafter the deity, he was lost. And about 80 years ago, someone came here and they found that there was a huge tunnel hill about 30ft high in the middle of a bamboo grove.
And he had a dream that there was juggling that deedee inside. So they excavated and they found that there was the Jagannath Subhadrā Balarat. Now I just like to ask you a question that what do termites eat? What is Jagamat made out of that Jagamat is being Daddy Brahma. He’s the supreme transcendental Lord even though he appears to be where the termites did not touch him and he was intact. So the same deity has so kindly come to us although we are not qualified to serve him properly. But this is our opportunity to do sound service for the non different juggernaut as the Jagannath and Jagannath Purī with non different Jagannath pity dam which is here Navadi.
So regarding the gradual decrease of our attention to serving the deity in order of the spiritual master and especially to the dangers, unless we always remember Kṛṣṇa and Surya remember our spiritual master. I’d like to request to speak for about 10 minutes and give us an enlightenment. 15 minutes. We will not have any place to sit down. You will lost it nicely, but we will not understand. I feel most fortunate to be here as Śrīla Charapad was talking about Pratt’s discussion with Śrīla Rameshwar about how he wanted that all the auspicious places in my opinion in Dardan they are actually managed by devotees. I remember an early conversation between my humble self and Śrīla Prabhupāda in San Diego in 1971 where I was telling Śrīla Prabhupāda, these damas, these holy places, these various temples, they should be managed by us.
We should be managing him. Śrīla Prabhupāda, please kindly make the arrangement that we manage them because we are the bona fide representatives of Lord Caitanya and they are being all ruled and unattended. And Śrīla Bharata immediately turned to me in a very stern voice he says, I have given them to you. Take them, manage them, they are all yours. So it has taken me so many years to have some glimpse of understanding, some fraction of understanding into what Prabhupāda meant by what he said to me that day 11 years ago. What does he mean? I have given them to you? In other words, I am not seeing that actually gave us everything. The qualification that he gave us. What is that qualification? That qualification is the qualification to surrender at his lotus feet.
The qualification to give up all inequities of the heart to qualification to get rid of whatever is standing between us and our natural right. Our topmost right. What is our topmost right? Our topmost right is to be happy. Our topmost right is to be happy. By what? How can we be happy? How can a Jīva be happy? How can the living entity be happy? A living entity can only be Happy by loving Kṛṣṇa, by serving Kṛṣṇa. There is no other way to be happy. And what did Prabhupāda give us? He removed whatever inevitable, whatever nonsense was in our heart. He removed those obstacles between us and our right to be happy. He gave us everything by allowing us to surrender at the lotus feet of the Lord and the lotus feet of the Vaishnavas. Now whoever takes that right, he has everything.
Because he has Kṛṣṇa. He has completely everything. And whoever doesn’t want to give up those attachments, no matter what those attachments may be. Attachment may be in the form of a woman. It may be in the form of knowledge. It may be in the form of what I know, what you don’t know. It may be in the form of oh how strong I am. Various shapes of shadows, of iron mind, all kinds of shadows, of reflections, of love, mistakes. And no matter what these attachments are, they’re what is standing between us and Kṛṣṇa. And if you take Pralipad as he is, as he represented Kṛṣṇa and he represented the Palampara, what did he give us? He gave us that opportunity to surrender to Him.
And if we surrender to him, if we give up all the inebrities, all the shortcomings actually we have, we can walk to anybody. We can walk to any temple. We can actually walk to this planet earth and all the demons who are ruling over this planet earth and tell them to get off. Because we have come to take what belongs to Kṛṣṇa. The only thing that is stopping us from taking over the world, taking over all the temples of the world, taking over all the nonsense, is the impurity in our hearts. Prabhupāda has given us everything because he has given us Kṛṣṇa. And he has given us the process by which we can surrender to Kṛṣṇa. So if we take to it, then we are happy. But if we start making plans, all kind of exceptions. But yes, I will surrender to Kṛṣṇa.
After two years I am going to get this and that. After three years I am going to do that. After I get my marriage, after my child grows up, after I resolve this problem, that problem. If we keep being attached to our spiritual master through our nonsense then we are offending our spiritual Master. We are rejecting what he has given us. He has given us every temple on this dam. He has given up, given us every kingdom on this earth. He has given us the opportunity to preach. He has given us perfect formula, perfect opportunity, perfect books, perfect gbc, perfect facility to take over the world. And there is only one thing that is starting us. There is Only one thing. Our own attachments in our heart. We give up these attachments. We take these instructions. Like he told me 11 years ago.
I have given you everything. Stopped asking me nonsense. Stop telling me, make arrangements. I have given you Kṛṣṇa. I have given you everything. So let us stick to this everything by simply surrendering to Kṛṣṇa. And Kṛṣṇa is not some imaginary personality. Kṛṣṇa has manifestation. Kṛṣṇa has his deity right here. Kṛṣṇa has his dm. Kṛṣṇa has his ISKCON who is non different than Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa has personalities. Kṛṣṇa has his temple commander who is telling you what to do? Kṛṣṇa has his temple president. Kṛṣṇa has his Pujari. Kṛṣṇa has his gvc. Kṛṣṇa has personalities representing him the whole paramparā Accept that’s all. That is what is taking us. That is the only way we can take to Kṛṣṇa as he is. Now if we are making some plan, I will enjoy this way. I will load this way. Then we are actually kicking Pava.
And most importantly we are refusing to be happy. We are refusing to love Kṛṣṇa which is our life which is Prabha’s greatest gift to us. He is not attached. Prabhupāda is not attached that we take his Kṛṣṇa. He is attached that we become happy. He loves us. He is compassionate upon us. He wants us to be rightfully properly situated. So that is my humble request. I am taking too much of your time. There are so many exalted Vaishnavas here who can tell us about how to get rid of our inebrities of the heart. This is all Jagannath’s mercy that we have all been brought here. He’s able to attract the whole world. Jaga Mohana. Actually the existing world that is built here and a little bit of development wealth is principally due to the donation of about three years ago.
There was a collection made by the devotees in the festival because she authoritized Samadhi temple construction taking up 99% of all the available funds which is correct. We haven’t been able to get allotment to build a little temple here and a little more of our ISKCON style. This is still the existing building. But Śrīla, Brahma, Swarasvami and others they reassure us that soon there will be some program for further developing this temple so we can show the other people that yes, when we do get charge of a temple we do something wonderful with it. Therefore they should also join up with our ISKCON movement. So one of the other holy places which is just nearby here, right behind us is the house of Śrīdhar was one of the dear most devotees of Caitanya Mahāprabhu. But he was very poor.
He was so poor that he wore ripped cloth. And people would come up to him and say, why are you wearing your ripped cloth? Why don’t you? You see, his fault was he would. He would spend half of his income to worship the Ganges. So they would chastise him. Why are you wearing ripped cloth? You could just stop worshiping the Ganges and you could have good cloth. He says, no, this is not whipped clothes. This is. You see, more cooling or something. He would just put them off. Then they said, but you’re having all in your house. He said, no, but it’s a very small hole and this house is dark anywhere hole. Is there some light comes in? And then they would say, but you don’t have nice dinnerware, your pots and pants and this. They’re all just broken.
Now if we’re eating, no problem. Then they will say just all right, just start worshipping the Ganges for one year. Make a little investment and this way build up your capital so you can give more to Kṛṣṇa. Then after you get your capital, you become rich. Then you do a very good worship for Kṛṣṇa. He refused. He said, no, if I stop now, what’s the guarantee? I will start later? And then if I die in the meantime, if Kṛṣṇa wants me to be rich, I am working hard, I am not being lazy. If he wants me to be rich, he will make me rich. Why would I stop his pūjā as some type of allurement that may lead me into flirted activity. We know that in the is quoted by RLA Prabhupāda where he warns that sometimes even a devotee wants to do something for Kṛṣṇa.
So they give up little bit their devotional service or they start to do some kind of business little bit sacrificing some of the principles in terms of giving everything at least 50% to Kṛṣṇa. I have learned that when I get my chapel off, when I get together, then I am going to give it all to Kṛṣṇa. I am going to give so much to Kṛṣṇa and Bhakti. Siddhānta says that what happens is due to being in this material world for so long that subtle trace of fluted activity again turns into an arthur or unwanted pollution in our hearts. So Siddha, he was so pure devotee that he wouldn’t listen to anyone. And so Lord Chaitanyami would only go to him to get his vegetables, his bananas, banana leaf plates and sometimes in arguing. He would grab away the bananas from Siddha and just take them by force.
And Siddharth would say, if you take them like this, then how can I worship the Ganges? He grabbed them back. Grand Lord Chaitanya was as offended. He was only about 10 years old. 9 years old at that time. Young Brahmins. Margarita. 14 years old. So you’re offending Abomina. You are taking things from Abraham. You want to take that offense? You think I am poor, man? You’re cheating. You’re taking double price. And this way the fight says all right. He’d give half the price. You take this and grab back the bananas.
(Side B of the Cassette)
Yesterday were at the Sankirtan place of Sivas. At that time he called out bring sweetheart. Bring sweetheart. Sweetheart. The vegetable hawker, the street peddler. The poor man who simply lives on something banana leaves street.
It bring Śrīdhar.
Immediately he gave the demands the order.
So they ran off. When they went to Śrīdhar’s house and told him more Chan is demanding you come immediately.
He saved it. They picked it up and carried him to.
Be mar. This is the enthusiasm.
We should also carry out the order of Chaitanya. He said, bring Sidon. He saved it and came. So when Sidon is brought, the Lord Shaitanya he started to praise that you are my short of his transcendental form. He described that when I was present as Kṛṣṇa and brought a yug, you also came and you were supplying the.
Vegetables to your ceremony. In this way we have an eternal relationship.
Every time I come, you are performing this service.
So now I want to give you liberation.
You take pure, you take liberation. You say no, I don’t want any liberation.
And all you must, you take mystic powers. You can make yourself bigger than an oven, smaller than an atom.
You take all the eight mystic powers. Mama, I don’t want any mystic power.
You must take a boon for me. I am giving you a blessing. You take you, I make you a king. You may have a kingdom with queens and with servants. No, no, I don’t want any kingdom. But you take one boon from me. And all I want is that eternally I can see that divine golden light who is coming and who’s taking from me by force, vegetables, bananas that I can eternally supply all of his vegetable needs.
That was the standard of devotion of Siddharth.
And then Lord Chaitanya said to you sweetheart, now I am giving pure Kṛṣṇa pray in Bhakti. All of the devotees there exploded in ecstasy. Lord Chaitanya given the highest benediction to Sinai the banana salesman.
Regarding how anyone can get the mercy. I say, how we can get this mercy? Following in the footsteps of Śrīracha, I just like to ask.
All right.
So in either case, our principle of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is based simple Bhakti. Pure Bhakti. Arpa Goswami describes like that. So without any trace of material motivation, without any desire for fruit of gain or for liberation or any of these things, a devotee is simply willing to engage in Bhakti Yoga devotional service. So the Śrīla Charyapad has explained very clearly and vividly. The Caitanya Mahakabu is not purchased by anything less than this complete, selfless mentality, that is, that a devotee is willing to give up anything and everything simply to engage in the service of Kṛṣṇa. So we always call ourselves prabhu devotees, Bhaktas. And sometimes the meaning of the word bhakta is taken very. But the fact is, being a bhakta is not a small thing. Bhakta or devotee is the greatest thing.
The opportunity to serve, or to have the opportunity to serve the Supreme Personality of Godhead, his representatives, the servants of his representatives, Das or Das, Anu Das. That is a great privilege, a great honor. There is nothing better than to be a simple and significant, humble servant of the Supreme Personality of God. Sometimes one may aspire for some position, a great recognized devotee. But we see that Caitanya Mah Prabhu, he was not so much interested in that. Therefore he called for Śrī bring the insignificant devotee, the one who has no position, who has no fame, who has no name, no money, but who only has one thing, that is that pure, unalloyed desire to serve Caitanya Mahāprabhu. So as far as our line of Kṛṣṇa Consciousness is concerned, this method of service is perfected not by cultivation of knowledge. Sometimes the idea is there.
One has to become some great erudite scholar, neither by becoming great pujari or so on and so forth, but to maintain the simplicity. Our simplicity is continued in this same mood by following these simple instructions which were written and given to us by Rla Prabhupda. Those same instructions were given by Caitanya Mahāprabhu by Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa. That is, to take the classification, to take this Kṛṣṇa Consciousness and spread it in a very simple and honest way, without any duplicities, all throughout the entire world. So as far as being Jamis, yogis and so on, it is very obvious that we are not qualified by birth. We are less than qualified to be even Shudras, let alone Brahmanas.
So the only real qualification which we can state to have or to be able to possess is a unalloyed, undeviating and unflinching faith in the order, superior order of the disciplic succession, the Acharyas, specifically Rla Prabhupāda, that is, to take this Kṛṣṇa Consciousness and spread it all over the world. So as preachers, Rla Prabhupāda has trained us how to distribute books, how to open temples, make devotees, cook prasadam, distribute prasadam. So for this, without a doubt, we have imbibed this process very nicely. And practically speaking, there is no outside influence or no outside teachers who can teach us this better. Prabhupāda showed us how to spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness throughout the world. For that we do not have to take any lessons from anyone.
And practically that execution of that spreading of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is the only real thing which will qualify us to be really known as bhaktas or devotees. That is the only real service which will give us the opportunity to attract Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s attention directly. We are not trying to achieve the lotus feet of the Lord, but through the order of the higher authority, through our spiritual master and the Acharyas following in their footsteps. We hope somehow or another to be able to get the mercy of the Lord and also receive this seed of pure devotional service, to actually get pure devotional service, pure love of God. So of course, you see, the pure devotional service is already implanted in the heart, but without the mercy of Caitanya Mahāprabhu and spiritual Master that cannot flourish into pure love of Godhead.
That pure love of Godhead can be obtained very easily, without any difficulty, in just a simple way which was enunciated by Rdh Maharaj, by our Karma Śrī Lanka. So full adhering faith to the order of Rla Prabhupāda, to this mission of devotional service, spreading Kṛṣṇa consciousness all over the world, then everything is automatically very easily achieved.
Everyone’s going to fire up, take a darshan, a Jagannath, don’t push, go take a darshan, go around to the left, do a program and come out. And then over to everyone’s wherever to the facing the deities is another house. You will see where I go. You can just follow me. We’re going to go there and do a Prabhupāda pūjā. And then we’re going to have a Bhāgavatam class. And then we’re going to take have some more discussion and take some prasadam. That’s the basic program.
So this is supposed to be a baton class. And unfortunately we have no Blackboard. I think many people will know it.
Refers to a cheating type of religious principle. Dharma is a word which is often misunderstood.
But in our Kṛṣṇa Consciousness movement, we.
Have been taught by Prahupa that actual.
Dharma refers to the natural constitutional position of the living entity, specifically his relationship with the supreme personality of God.
In other words, when a living entity.
Is engaged and his specific natural relationship with Kṛṣṇa, that is his constitution.
Now, of course there is the Sanatan Dharma, or the Eternal Dharma, or Eternal constitutional position, and the Varnashram Dharma which relates to a temporary position Ninga Brahman or Satya, Vaishya Śūdra, Brahmacharya, Grihas, Vanaprastha Sannyas. These are temporary designations which we accept for the proper social functioning and the.
Utilizing the positions for purification to go.
Home back to God. But the real Dharma which we are.
Interested in here in this Kṛṣṇa consciousness are the eternal principle, the eternal constitutional position of the living entity, the eternal occupational which is surrendered to Kṛṣṇa, service to Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme personality. So the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam represents the quintessence.
Of our Kṛṣṇa conscious philosophy that was stated by Lord Titania Mahāprabhu and that was also confirmed in this very verse. This was compiled by the Mahamuni Vyatadeva.
Was an incarnation of the supreme personnel.
To God himself and it is stated Kim Vapora. What need is there for any other literature when one has there is no need for any other literature because the qualification aforementioned this Shimad Bhāgavatam roots out cheating processes. All cheating processes of villages are kicked out.
They are prohibited.
They are kicked out. They are not allowed to come in. Because Coitava Dharma is actually the natural feature of Kali Yuga. Kali Yuga because it is in the mode of passion and ignorance.
Then one worships A common man is a great man. A great man is a common man.
A common scripture or a common not even scripture, a common literature as a scripture and the greatest literature, the greatest scripture as the book of mythology.
This is the Kali Yuga.
And the Kali Yuga so filled with bad qualities in so many ways. So the Bhāgavatam specifically separates the real substance of existence.
Vasu.
Vasu refers to a substance. So this the means the actual knowledge. This is speaking of the actual knowledge as opposed to illusion. These two things are separated. These two things are separated and the actual understanding of the material nature and all of the threefold miseries which are.
Inflicted upon us is clarified.
Our position in this material world is very clear. According to the Bakugan, we are entrapped in a material body. This body is made of the eight fold coverings of this material world. These eight separated energies of earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego have bound up the living entity and forced and are forcing him to.
Take a form under the influence of.
All living entities are forced into different.
Positions due to Prakriti means the material.
Energy and that energy is causing us to act, pushing us here and there through different bodies.
Therefore, it is stated Dan Saudi Māyā.
The living entity is caused to move as if seated on a machine by the energy of the Lord called Prakriti, or the manifestation of prakriti, which is the three modes of material nature. And the super soul, who is sitting within the heart of all living entities, is directing the living entities, is causing them to move here and there by giving them the direction how to go.
Where to go, what to do.
It’s like we have all the experience of dying not in this lifetime, but.
Certainly in previous lifetimes. Since we have been wandering through so.
Many species of life, we certainly have experience of death. But how is it that at the time of death we get exactly the right direction? Where we go, that is the super soul. The super soul points the direction at the moment of death to the soul and says, you go this way. For the demoniac class. The super soul says, you go down.
You can go out through the anus.
You can go down there.
I think it’s the Udana era which.
Pushes down there Nadis, they’re called the.
Pathways of energy, which emanate from the heart.
And the super soul at the point of death points and says, you go this way, or you go that way.
Or you go this way according to your work.
Karma.
Daivana. Train.
This according to our works. At the moment of death, our Karma is a state established, our consciousness is established.
And at that point, everything taken into consideration.
The super soul says, go there, leave the body in this way. Now go to this body and take.
Your birth again and start again.
And this is all going on under.
The influence of these modes of nature.
Which are strictly controlled by Karma, the.
Prakitek human and everything is controlled. But unfortunately, we are so foolish because of this Ahankar. Ahankar refers to the false ego, the false identity. The false identity is making us think.
That we are this body, we are.
This mind, we are this position, we are this nationality, we are this religion.
And according to it, we are becoming.
Bewildered by the modes of nations. Refers to a big ass.
Vimuda refers to a real big act. Vimudatma.
We, the living entity, are so foolish.
Because we are thinking, K I am the doer, I am the performer of these activities which are in reality only.
Carried out by the nature.
The nature is carrying out these activities according to our desires. We have this independent desire. We may do according to Kṛṣṇa’s instruction, or we may reject according to our own desire. And thus we are creating a karma. And thus we are being forced into different species of life, meeting good and.
Bad at the living entity.
He thinks he is Purusha refers to the enjoyer. Actually, Kṛṣṇa is the Purusha. The living entity is not the enjoyer. But he is only thinking he is the enjoyer. But because of his thinking he is the enjoyer, the Karna Guna Sangatya. He is forced to associate with the.
Material energy, the modes of nature, the Prakriti.
And he is forced again and again to meet good and bad in different species of life.
He’s forced, he has no control over this.
The only thing he can control is how he will make the best use of his bad bargain, how he will act either for elevation or either for degradation.
The living entity has such a question.
And if the living entity wishes to accept a path which is not exactly in accordance with the Sanātana Dharma or his actual constitutional position in relationship with Kṛṣṇa, then he will also, if he has a little bit of pious understanding, that tinge of the sense gratificatory desire will cause him to accept Kavadharma or cheating process of religiography as a fact, as the truth, as reality. And therefore he will deviate from the true religious principle which is given in.
The Veda, given in the Bhagavad, given.
According to the instructions to the Prabhupāda. This way one can understand what causes the deviant to us, to cause us.
To go to the court of Adam.
It is this in the heart, our independent desire, choosing again, even at the last instance, choosing again not to surrender.
Fully to Kṛṣṇa and engage ourselves in our national constitution.
It’s very unfortunate, but here we have the qualification of that personality who is going to accept the highest process of religious the Paramahamsa. The Bhāgavatam is for the Paramahamsa class of myth. Paramahamsa refers to he who is completely freed from matzah, massages, the enjoyment. So when Bhāgavata Satan refers to that purified soul, purified devotee of the Lord who is of the highest nature, because.
He is freed from envy.
This enviousness is the root cause, one of the root causes of our acceptance.
Into this material world.
It’s one of the things which is keeping us here in the material world because we have chosen to accept the supreme personality of Godhead as a rival. He’s the enjoyer. I also want to be the enjoyer. He’s the controller. I also want to be the controller with envious nature. Whatever somebody else has, I also want. Therefore I have come into this material atmosphere and I am suffering. I am being battered around in the waves of Māyā accepting good and bad. So those who are SatA, real devotee of the Lord, also another name, Mahatmas. Those who are actual saintly personalities free themselves from Mātājī or envious of enviousness of others. Now one may say this is very hard.
And he’s right.
Because every living entity is born into two things. This is the initial covering of the.
Living entity, Icha and dwesh.
Icha refers to intense desire and dvesha refers to aversion. I have so many desires for things.
And so many aversions of things.
And this is manifested on the mental platform as sangkalpa, vikalpa, the mind accepting.
And rejecting constantly material things.
So this desire has caused.
Us to come here and an aversion.
To surrendering to Kṛṣṇa is there simultaneously. And thus we are trapped in the material world by Dvandvamo. The two illusions.
The two illusions.
Therefore it is stated how one may get free from these illusions and also simultaneously free from any acceptance of cheating processes of religiosity which promise so much but actually don’t deliver the highest they promise you.
You can go to the heavenly planets.
To the TV Loka.
There you can enjoy like anything with the heavenly damsels.
You can enjoy the Nandanandana garden along with the demigods. You can go to the moon planet and enjoy the Somarasa. Live like immortal life, practically immortal life. Of course you must sleep again, but it seems immortal because you are so much in illusion. You think I will never die. Or one can achieve great powers of.
Different sorts mystically or get great material.
But the real principle is surrender to Kṛṣṇa. So as long as we have not done, we have not given up our previous sinful activity. In other words, we have to do some prayas or atonement for our previous sinful activities to get rid of all previous reactions. People are always doing this. Of course. They are always acting pious people in a way to free themselves from sinful reactions by they create some speculative process of confession. Or they think that if I give away so much charity to the Brahmins, or I plan so many trees or dig so many wells, whatever I will be freedom from sinful reactions. Or if I do Ashramada yagya or whatever different yagyas or sacrifices there are, or even sometimes they even chant Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra or names of God to free themselves from sinful reactions.
All of this is part of the healing process. But one must first get rid of these sinful reactions. In any case, generally they will accept these processes Just to get freed from sinful reactions so they can enjoy like anything. But if one actually wants to surrender to Kṛṣṇa in any case he must get free himself from previous reactions. One chanting of the holy name of the Lord offensively does that without any difficulty. If one is not thinking of freeing himself from sinful reactions or. And he has to get rid of all actions at the present time which are contrary to these donating principles. In other words, one has to act presently, properly and he has to get rid of all the previous reactions and become freed from the Dvandva Moha. He has to become free from these things of desire and aversion.
And then he can engage himself in Ka’s loving devotional service with determination. Otherwise he won’t be able to do it. We have seen so many examples. Regardless of the external position one accepts in this world, if he cannot free himself from Icha and Vaishya, he cannot serve Kṛṣṇa with full termination. It is not possible if he is not freed from so many unlimited desires. Father is often spoken about this desire. I want to be father, I want to be mother. I want to be politician, I want to be learned scholar, I want to be creating skillful personality.
I want to be famous, I want to be rich.
I even want to be Guru. All of these things are in the category of Isha or desire which is keeping one from surrendering to Kṛṣṇa.
Because standing will always be thinking how to fulfill the desire.
And while he is thinking of fulfilling the desire then the Dwesha, the aversions will come. He will meet things which are unfaithful, unpalatable and he will not have the enthusiasm anymore to go on to fulfill his desires. And he will reject. Then he will keep things away. I don’t want to be poor. I don’t want to be weak.
I don’t want to be ugly. I don’t want.
I don’t want to be criticized. I don’t want.
I don’t want.
I don’t want. In this way the whole life is. I don’t want that. But I want this. And people are mad after me.
Mad after gaining money. Where is money?
Where is money? Where is money? Where is sex? Where is sex? Where is fame? Where is fame?
Where is.
Where is. But all the time what are they being delivered? They are being delivered. The foot in the face of the.
Material nature is the ceiling of the foot in the face in the form.
Of the Shafatriya or the threefold miseries of life which come as the Ādi atnical miseries. Ādi Bautical miseries and adity daivikas. Just like when the sun is too hot. Kṛṣṇa is now very merciful to us.
Maybe it’s Lord Jagannath’s mercy.
He knows we are all sitting here. Some have to sit in the sun so he sent some clouds so we don’t have to suffer too much. But when the sun is coming very much then you will find the heat is very hot. The sun is very unbearable. Because that is one of the adidaivika.
Coming from the demigod nature. Natural element.
And when these flies come and land on you, they’re coming and sticking themselves there.
And they will brush him off.
And then he sticks himself there and sits over there. And then 10 buddies come and stand like this. This is driving you crazy. This is the Ādi bhazika. The miseries that are coming from other living ends. That is also coming. If I call you complete fool, right? If I call somebody rats nonsense or come up and hit him in the nose. Asleep hiding Karthika miseries that come from other living entities or adiatnika. Now we all have to sit very uncomfortably. I am noticing everybody’s moving their leg because it is not at all comfortable to.
Fit sometimes in these positions.
So these miseries are there. Zoga Devī Ki has 10 horns filled with weapons. And one of them is just got detritus which is perfectly sufficient to destroy any demon in this world.
Simply with these threefold miseries of life.
And that we experience all the time. We are thinking that we are going to gain great sense gratification, great accomplishments. We are going to build a big empire and then we are going to enjoy that empire. We build a big castle made of gold like Ravan. We saw the Ict Ravan Ramayan the other day.
Very nice.
So Ravani was thinking he was going to build his city of gold. He’s going to enjoy it. But instead the freefall’s miseries captured him in the form of an arrow in the heart. That’s another thing. But even if you live in the great palaces, you cannot avoid the misery.
I always remember this example because I.
Have a similar problem. There was a king in Calcutta. And this king, he could not eat because his liver was bad. But he had a hundred cooks and they would prepare the most wonderful feast and put it on a plate and put it in front of the king.
And he would simply sit there and.
Look at it because he could not eat. But he was king so he could have wonderful food. So he just looked at it completely frustrated. So according to Prabhupāda, there was a coolie walking down the street with a fish over his shoulder singing apples. And the king looked over and he.
Said, I would give my whole kingdom.
Be as happy as well, Even though one may be living in circumstances which he thinks he’s arranged very nicely for his sense.
